Omegods rescued Audi 80 , MOT pass update

I spotted a lovely old Audi in a car park in St Helens 5 years ago ( hence the slow cooked ) , I hung on for a bit and had a lovely chat with the older lady owner who was very proud of it as she had owned it since new, as I generally do I politely left her with my details on a scrap of paper should it ever need a new home.

Well I was rather shocked to get a call last Saturday asking if I was still interested as she has given up driving 2 yrs ago and the Audi had stopped starting since, went round the next day and both me and the wife were treated like long lost family    slight rush job as the car was in the way of some urgent  repairs to the house so I managed to procure recovery transport on a Sunday. 

She's been well looked after with many new parts visible and has full service history  but will be getting a good going through, new battery resulted in a healthy crank but no start or fuel flow, I bypassed the pump relay and it pumps so a new relay has been ordered, obtaining some cosmetic parts may be a challenge but it'll get sorted

Lovely. I remember going to view a K reg 2.0E in a lovely bottle green - still had the procon ten stickers.

No purchase was made as most of the rear lights were loose in the boot.

Absolutely love these. Had 3 of them now . Much prefer the look of this model than the facelift ( bonnet is just a bonnet on these where the facelift lifts the grille with it . 
Only  downside to the earlier ones is the fuel tank is behind the rear seats so you can’t fold them . 

Absolutely peak Audi quality too . 
The carb ones (1.8s iirc ) were prone to the carb rubber mounting flange failing causing issues and the injected 2.0E ( cos German ) just the usual KE Jetcronic probe but bloody good motors .

I love these too. I've owned the previous version in 80 Sport guise and absolutely loved it. Then owned the 1.9 TDi Avant version of one of these, which was solid and dependable.

She was awakened from her slumber yesterday with a new fuel pump relay,  quite tappety at first but running smoothly after warming through so I'll do some cosmetic stuff now   

Previous lady owner rang me last Saturday excited for updates so I rang her yesterday to let her know , sadly her husband passed away suddenly on Sunday which has gutted me as he was a lovely chap and we had spent ages talking cars last week when I collected it , I'll take her for a spin in it when the time is right

There are some properly lovely people out there, aren't there.

This is absolutely superb, heart-warming stuff. Very sad to hear about the old boy, but good to know that you gave him and his wife a bit of pleasure.

Long overdue update, fair bit of titivating and this little beauty happily waltzed through it's MOT, the tester was a bit surprised when I turned up as he thought it was a typo on his job sheet, I was a bit surprised also when he called me under the ramp to point put that most of the suspension was new as were the exhaust and ALL of the metal brake pipes  

It had 3/4 of a tank of old fuel and I've added some fuel system cleaner and topped up with fresh fuel and used it for work her this week in advance of Sundays run to Chumley,  she's running better and better every day . Remaining issue is the power steering pump is really whining and new fluid has not improved it so I'm on the lookout for a replacement, AUDI (026145155B) if anyone has one lurking ?

In not so great news I have been unable to reach the lady previous owner and have a nagging feeling she has also passed away but at least I did what I promised and got the car back in good running order.

There's lots of the pumps on eBay.de for not too much, but obviously you'd be better putting the number into eBay.co.uk.

Hopefully the old lady is still alive. She may just have had to move elsewhere.
