I tried that a good few years ago.  It was…. Ok but not fantastic. However, like a lot of things, formulas do change.

Different effects on different surfaces/compounds I guess. Largely positive in my experience. A heat gun can sometimes work far better than any formula?

The bumpers are very tired looking and likely beyond the influence of boiled linseed oil or smooth peanut butter. I have several cans of black truck bed liner, which is overpaintable. Hmmm, then maybe a  couple of coats of mid-grey might finish it off nicely.

Hive mind view on this?

I wouldn't.

Go for the Bumpercare, or try the boiled linseed and white spirit mix first.

Truck bed liner will be irreversible and look horrible.

Bit more cleaning occurred, mostly  inside, sweeping dust and stuff. Had a go at cleaning and protecting some of the plastics.

This little car so reminds me of my old blue Daf 33 😊😊😊

Thought I would spend a bit of time on the Visa this afternoon.  Took the door card off and had a root around.
The winding mechanism was really stiff and took a lot of effort to operate.

I sprayed a ton of WD40 on the sliding mechanism and the cog and workings. Just spent time working the mechanism for about 30 mins. Also cleaned and lubed the door hinges and door check strap. Now much better.

The winder works really smoothly winding the window up but is less so winding it down, feels tighter at times than others. Will let it all soak in and then try again.
I have some external weather strip that will do the job but need to source the fittings that the strip sits on, there are half a dozen and they mount onto a hole in the door. Not familiar with them so will need to seek out various suppliers.

The door lock is inoperative on the key. The key just spins.  The mechanism isn’t connected to anything. Will need to do a bit more research.

IIRC the door lock (key) isn't actually connected to the interior door release/lock, which I think you slide forwards to lock from the inside.

The key just , when turned, stops the exterior button from being depressed. Because of this I managed to lock myself out of my Visa Super E many years ago.

I may be wrong about this, it was a long time ago!

Recessed middle underside of the steering column shroud? Is on the van.

Then to release the safety catch there is a small metal handle parallel to the underside of the bonnet edge.

Cheers for that, will have another look tomorrow 😊

It's a round pull knob under the steering column and slightly to the left.  You might need to move some wiring out of the way to see it.

Polytrol is supposed to be amazing on old/faded plastic - https://www.owatroldirect.co.uk/product/polytrol/

I've got a little tester pot of that which seems to be lasting me absolutely ages and was only a fiver.  It's good stuff that's easy to apply, a little goes a long way and keeps stuff looking good a long time

Might have found something suitable on the Breco website. Thought I would investigate the reluctant winder mechanism on the passenger door.

Door furniture off and door card removed.  Bugger, access is very different this side. Lubed what I could, tried to move the handle, and……. clunk, the window popped off and dropped to the bottom of the door. Urrghhh.

The runner attached to the bottom of the window is in poor condition and without the glass, the winder itself works really well.

Anyone got a replacement glass with runner in good nick? Sigh.

Bloke on fb Visa forum shouts out he has a replacement window with a good runner, puts up pictures. I reply that would be great please. Then nothing. No message option either.

sigh

Found the bonnet release knob though.

Looked in the engine bay briefly, gulped and quietly closed the bonnet. Another time perhaps lol.

How is it constructed on the Visa?  Possible something else easier to find could be adapted to work?

Sadly your experience with trying to buy stuff from FB groups seems to echo mine.  You get halfway through trying to organise something and the seller just stops responding to you.

Admittedly the blasted platform only seems to ever notify me of about 1/4 of the replies to my posts anyway so they're possibly just unaware I've posted.  If it weren't for one of our local classic car groups using it as their sole means of posting meet dates I'd likely just have binned it off entirely these days.

It’s a simple enough bit of trim squeezed onto the bottom of the glass, literally a piece of slightly lipped channel I guess.

Yes, it’s a bit soul destroying but hey, he might have gone away for a few days….

Potential candidate for adaptation if it comes to it?  Glass is a press fit with a bit of rubber strip normally.

Update time!

Spent half an hour tinkering today. Sprayed more WD40 onto the winder mechanisms to let it all soak, etc.  The drivers side winds a hell of a lot better, it’s an 8/10 now.  Hopefully that will improve further still. Passenger side winds perfectly when not connected to the knackered runner.

I cleaned the engine bay up a bit. There are several unconnected wires, they will be ignored for now. I will tidy up the wiring at some point, as well as clean up some of the connections with a fibreglass pencil. Could have sworn that I knocked a wire off a connector but after a detailed search, I could find no evidence, maybe I just imagined it…

I had a look around for the oil cooler but couldn’t see it. Am guessing it’s hiding under the air filter housing, maybe?

The window weather strip clips from Brisco turned out to be unusable sadly, am stuck on that frustratingly.

Am debating about taking the spare wheel for blasting and powder coating but it is really quite rusty and pitted sadly. Maybe a replacement might be the better option in the long run.

Thats all folks…. For now.

Thats where the oil cooler is. You will need to take the fan off the front to see it. Then remove air box, alternator, carb and oil filler/breather assembly, if you really want to be able to clean it thoroughly.

Best way is to use soapy and solventy water and blow through from behind with compressed air afterwards (from behind because its the opposite direction to how most of the muck has got there, so should be easier to reverse its progress rather than push muck all the way through the fins)

I havent forgotten the pocket mechanics book for you either Ken, I just cant quite put my hands on it currently, must be more organised.

Cheers for that, really, really appreciated!!!

Once I have shrugged off the mild sedation left over from yesterday’s Amitriptyline I fully intend* to start the strip down in order to access the oil cooler so that it can be cleaned out. That took much longer to type than anticipated due to the overwhelming desire to close my eyes and drift off. Fuck you Amitriptyline.

I know it's warm, but am slightly concerned the sedative is giving you the inclination to work naked! 🤣
