1973 Renault 15 - I've broken my own rules.

Nice! I'd recommend joining the Renault Classic Car Club. Nice bunch.

Looking forward to seeing more of this. I'd forgotten there was a 15 and a 17.

I think Renault have made a car for every number from 3 through to 21 apart from 13

Well bought, had a 17 with folding electric sun roof back when they were just “ an car”

I used to spend ages driving 'Reno 17 TL's' completing crime missions in Grand Theft Auto: London, on the Sony PS-One. They were incredibly fast, similar in speed to the 'S-Cart' and 'Crapi'.

I'm going to do some rummaging in the attic now.

A load of spare parts/crap came with the car.

Most of it seems to be items that have been replaced with better ones. There are multiples of many of the brightwork pieces, but not all of them. There are many windscreen trims, and I was able to fit a full set of pretty decent ones that just require a good clean and polish.20241104_194647.jpg.d7dedccfb6d7efeaafd28ba264921aa0.jpg

I really need to find new front and rear screen rubbers, as the ones on the car are seriously deteriorated, but I appreciate that a pair of those is most likely a very tall order!

Not regretting buying the thing just yet!

A bit of twiddling screws on the carburettor sees the car running and idling pretty nicely.

That cherry bomb "silencer" has got to go!

The only things not working at present are the plate lights, and the reversing lights. I'll have a play at those another time - sadly I've got to work on someone else's heap to pay the bills.😮‍💨

How good is the respray? The very 70s colour suits it, looks like a genuine Renault shade, or close to one.

It's super shite! They did make them in this colour, but alas, it's a piss poor respray!

I did notice the careful* masking of the windscreen surround and around the wiper spindles, looks like it was a bit rushed, to put it mildly…

Nooo, keep the cherry bomb! The bull bar on the front is pure late 80s - has it been off the road for a long time?

The cherry bomb has been bodged on with wire and goop - I have the original back box, so it'll be going back on.

There is no bull bar on the front - it's just the camera angle. The front is standard apart from the added lights.👍

It appears to have been passed around a bit over the last few years, some decent repairs have been done, and some aspects of it have been fucked up. I don't think it's been properly on the road for a fair while.

My intention is to get it on the road next year to get it in a good roadworthy condition. Hopefully I can find some parts to make it a worthwhile restoration project.

Fair enough with the exhaust, makes sense in that case. I see what you mean about the front end - it looks deceptive!

I vaguely remember these, never really came up onto our radar. The Mk2 1600E Cortina was the car to have when I was a lad. 😁 [Never did get one.😞]

I also glanced and thought it had a Roo Bar on the front!

Looking forward to the progress on this. Much approves.

YES, another 4wheeledstool thread!

Great purchase! Sacre bleu, zut alors etc! I was another one fooled into thinking it had a bull bar, those spotlights definitely give it a whiff of soft roader...

Looking forward to see what happens with it, enjoy!

Well bought, sir.

@retro80sboy and @shaun1706 's friend who used to run a car breakers near Wrexham may have some bits still if needed?

That's not David Kelly breakers is(was) it? Bought a few Stellar parts from them 20 or so years ago.

Is it going to be another @4wheeledstool concourse job or are you aiming for just sound and usable?

If I can find screen rubbers, it's game on!👍

Are they super unique things, or can you make something you buy by the meter work?

This can only mean one thing. Out with the scrapers and wire wheel!

They're unique to the 15 and 17 as far as I know - moulded with square corners and have slots into which the chrome trims slide in. (with difficulty!)

Mini’s screen rubber with slot for chrome trims, and minor* persuasion?

Minis screens have round corners, sadly these are very different.
