Have you seen it’s a known car on Club XM? Ray Noon was a wonderful guy but sadly departed a few years ago now.

don't the series one have the dodgy earth connections , which swapping usually clears up the gremlins.?

If you want to see how not to so a cambelt change on a 2.1 TD check out my XM thread!

i've heard the same, don't mind sorting the electrical side......i'm a fairly experienced burglar alarm installer so quite used to fiddly wiring lol

firstly i need to work out why it won't start normally

potentially an aftermarket immobiliser that's failed? it would make sense

i know it needs quite a few new parts fitting relays etc which should be fun

park switch on the selector or box>?

nope it knows what gear it's in by the little screen

i suspect it may have an aftermarket immobiliser that's broken

or a failed solenoid

One of the worst moments of my driving life was being hundreds of miles from home with the ex and a baby Eva with the XM and it suddenly going stone cold dead when we went to leave where we were... Turn the key, nothing!

A frantic 10/15 minutes happened and then I realised it wasn't fully in P (dash indicator bulb didn't work on mine, caught it in the sun and it didn't say P)

Shove on the shifter, a small clunk and voila, fired right up 😂

does it not have the key pad immobilizer?

Oh, wow.

Now that's something.

Do the S1 cars have the daft little tippy-tappy keypad to enter the immobiliser code? The one on my S2 estate was, erm, temperamental at times.

@Mrs6C/ @Six-cylinder's XM had/has the same issue and no matter where I moved the gear lever I always ended up in reverse somehow LOL

eventually I just swore at it (sorry! LOL) and moved the gear lever all the way to the bottom which I knew would be 1st, et viola it worked and I could finally get myself to the toilet at the FoD LOL

(it still amuses me that the one gearbox I had trouble working/operating, was a bloody automatic LOL)

all good fun tho :)

Sounds like you’ll need a source of parts…
