are they still producing the Morgan 4/4? I was under the impression production of it came to end in 2018 sadly, for reasons I dont really understand tbh, they had been making it for so long, why stop now...

Dunno, you may be right, but I think they still make something in the same style.

1959 - 2000. About 5 million of them

They were shit in 1959, and the improvements they made over the next 40 years were 95% related to legislation change, and they were never much better in 1999.

They still make a Plus Four, I think they ditched the wood frame for aluminium though.

Hindustan Ambassador has to be a shout. 1957 to 2014

Toyota Crown Comfort, the ubiquitous Japanese taxi ran from 1995 to 2018.

You have to share the manual? 😁

Because it says 1958-1997 on the front cover, I imagine.

The Fiat Grande Punto (2005 to 2018) which, even though I own one, admittedly did outstay its welcome by about 4 years.

The Citroen AX was around for 10 years, the facelift version outliving the mk1 Peugeot 106 by about 18 months.

Nissan Cedric/300C estate, Y30 series:

1985 Nissan 300C Estate (Y30) c.1997/98

There are a few instances of Japanese cars where the estate version ran alongside its successor for a while (1980s Corolla and Mazda 323 for example), but this one was launched alongside its saloon sister in 1984 and managed to survive for four successive generations, finally ceasing production in 1999. Sadly we only got it for just four years.

Morgan 4/4 1936-2018 but I think its the series 2 from 1955 that remained largely unchanged?

this one is a really interesting one, because they actually stopped making them for a time, and then started making them again, I think the MF35 must be the only case of that happening, where an old vehicle design gets put back into production after a several year hiatus?

Yes that's the only one I know of, but they were built under license by many so wouldn't surprise me if any of these built these until recently.

IMT for example, built these for a long time.

Yes the Russian UAZ van. Very popular design but few seen in the west. In production in various forms from 1958 to present - still sold new in those places where Russian goods are not embargoed. It's the oldest four-wheel road vehicle still in production I think.

Toyota J70 Series Landcruiser - in production 1984 to present largely unaltered.

They are not imported into Europe because they don't meet various bits of legislation but sold all over the rest of the world.

There is a 'grey import' market via Gibraltar I think. Big sellers in Australia too. Anywhere where a proper 4x4 is needed.

Plus one. Most old things are objectively shit but worked and people went all over the world in them.

For engines, the A series? 1948(??) To 2000. Obvs a major redesign for the A+, but still basically the same unit. Every time they looked to replace it the A lived on as it's torque characteristics and fuel efficiency were hard to beat.

Various old designs of Royal Enfield motorcycles were in production for a long time in India I think.

The AX lived on briefly as the 'Proton Tiara' which was produced in Malaysia from 1996 to 2000 - in total around 30,000 units.

Rolls-Royce L-series V8. 1959-2020. Last common item changed out in 2005ish (core plugs I think) but very much the same basic design. R-R tried to move beyond it in the 1990s with the BMW-sourced engines for the Seraph and Arnage but it carried on in production for the Continental R & T. Post-takeover VW realised they didn’t have a suitable non-BMW engine to carry on fitting to the Arnage so they redesigned the front end to accept the L-series, then went twin-turbo in search of ‘efficiency’ and emissions compliance, added selective cylinder deactivation, more power… Not bad going for a 1950s design.

'03 I think not 04, but on the subject of mothballed designs,  Beetles were produced in Brazil from 1959 to 1986, and then from 1992 to 1996

I'm sure I saw one of these the other day. It was BROWN AND CREAM and looked well used but equally well looked after.

They were sold for a bit in Europe but as the legislation tightened they stopped. So a few old ones about or grey imports - brought in 2nd hand.

Jaguar XJ6/12 was 24 years in continuous production.

The Morgan 4/4 and +4 are the same in name only as production ceased in 2020 and they become more Lotus than Morgan.

I only say 04 because I’ve seen a few round here on an 04 plate, course they could have been built in 03 and registered 04?

Cessna Skyhawk

Cessna_172S_Skyhawk_SP_Private_JP6817606.jpg.d9eeea8479a08aa97fc17671d645c2f2.jpg

Introduced in the 50s and in production ever since (with a 10 year gap from 1986 according to Wikipedia)
