My better half’s Dad had far better taste in cars than mine ever did. Subsequently, yesterday we left a deposit on this……

It’s the quietest engine I’ve ever heard, which obviously means it’s going to explode shortly….

Very strong engines those Triumph straight sixes, perfect colour and interior combination on that lovely looking example.

Amazing to think we once had a car industry that launched this and the Rover P6 in the same year.

Looks gorgeous 👍

And a pity they both got swallowed up by BLMC. Those Triumphs were far more exciting than the contemporary BMW. It would take them another 10 years before they introduced the 6 pot 5-series.

I've always fancied one of those Triumph, but have never gone for one.

Excellent choice Sir.

Looks lovely. My dad had one too though not such a fine example. He lined under the carpet with some poly sheet he found as didn't have the money to sort the exhaust leak which was the latest in a long line of issues. It was the car my mum learnt to drive in and they have a lot of found memories of it. A luxurious car indeed. It was eventually abandoned in a valley in the lake district when it would not proceed up the other side.

That looks beautiful Col - red leather/vinyl interiors get me everytime, they always look so good.

Thanks for all the kind comments. Just going to get some sympathetic mechanical upgrades ( alternator/electronic distributor, ) and copious amounts of Waxoil

Much as I'd like a mk2 PI, these are a very elegant car. Beautiful. Just a suggestion Col maybe you should do a car fostering scheme. Y'know, when you run out of room 😆

Love this, especially the connection to the family.

Lovely ! We didn't have one, but next door but one to my mk2 escort neighbour they had a mk2 2000 in a sort of orangey yellow. I remember seeing it driving about when i was very small. probably early/ mid 80s but for a long time it was sat up on axle stands in their garage under some bed sheets. L plater.

A young me getting more interested in the older stuff still driving about was probably when the rot set in 😂

I think a nice MK2 Triumph 2000/2500 Estate would be my perfect second car. A lovely smooth engine and good looks too

Also dirt cheap insurance,no tax or MOT required and ULEZ free. Keep it tidy and you'll easily get your money back when you move it on for something else.

Crazy isnt it- a compact executive monopoly before bmw had even woken up, and somehow it was all ruined.

Very nice. Early too as doesn't have the eyeball vents in middle of dash.
Cool motor's,  I often wondered what was better these or their rival the P6, doesn't seem much in it.

I’ve had both…the P6 four pots aren’t as smooth , but seem a bigger car somehow… possibly because you seem to sit a lot lower in the Rover
