I have a set of 4x good 155 80 13s that I took off my Ibiza.   I got the wheels refurbed and thought it a shame to put old tyres back on.

If you want them, they are based in South Wales.  Pictures on condition after I get home tonight.

Honestly Bollox this has been a real cheer up thread for many so thanks for detailing it so well, Simca is a beaut

That P plate Simca van was on the road for just under eight years. No wonder the likes of Bollox' example hasn't been seen in the wild here for years.

How would they have even loaded that lot up? Another crane & something holding the rear of the triumph up in the air?

They are depending on the weight of the Simca estate on the bonnet of the Triumph by the looks of it

Yeah, but how do you insert the Triumph under the Simca?

I'd assume it has an extension somewhere; the picture certainly looks like the chevron markings are at least a couple of feet behind the end of the bed?

Yup, quite agree. Leading contender for the 2024 AS Collection of the Year award.

There are alien life forms discussing them as we speak.

All invading spaceships will be Simca shaped.

I reckon all travel costs for a 4 day Euro excursion AND wholly owning a solid, dependable classic car at the end of it with a ÂĢ1300 budget is barg territory in 2024.

Since roffles are so popular on here,I'm sure we could sell 59 tickets at ÂĢ23 a pop to fund your next adventure. Note that the ÂĢ1357 fundraised would give you a ÂĢ57 bonus to spend as you pleased on such luxuries as a:

FIRST CLASS cancelled train ticket

Straw Spanish donkey and sombrero combo

Smutty set of playing cards

Half-pint glass filled with mild Mustard (if passing through Germany)

And other such outdated tropes. The possibilities are endless!

OK, As promised here's a breakdown of what I spent on collecting the Brown Bomber:

Ryanair flight; ÂĢ72

Original Train ticket: ÂĢ36 (of which half was refunded)

Chunnel crossing: ÂĢ190

B&B Booking Thurs night: ÂĢ54

Hotel Booking Weds Night: ÂĢ46

Taxi Stevenage - Stansted: ÂĢ75

Temp Insurance: ÂĢ126

Meal Weds night ÂĢ20

Meal Thurs Night ÂĢ25

Fuel fill-ups: ÂĢ30+ÂĢ22+ÂĢ36+ÂĢ38+ÂĢ31+ÂĢ36+ÂĢ25 = ÂĢ218

Motorway Tolls: ÂĢ60ish

Driveway parking space: ÂĢ30

Habileads: ÂĢ115

Tyre fitting: ÂĢ50

I've also spent:

Import broker fee: ÂĢ120

Import taxes: ÂĢ55

Overseas transaction charges on the credit card: ÂĢ20 approx

I make that about ÂĢ1300 altogether which actually is slightly less than i thought, seeing as I've included the costs of the unplanned-for 'Habilead incident' and the import duty & broker fee. Theres probably a few other small costs which I have forgotten about like cans of pop and whatnot but I do think that covers most of it.

I'm pretty pleased really with how thats turned out. I mean the Simca is probably a ÂĢ2k car as it is, once on UK number plates, so I wouldn't call it a profitable venture but it was an exciting little escapade which has defo cheered me up and reminded me who I actually am and what I like doing for my own enjoyment (and also that I can actually still get off of shite island if I want to now and then, even for a short while) and thats defo worth something.

Is it possible for you to say a bit more about how the French ownership transfer via the ANTS system went. There is also a paper chase involved in processing of change of ownership I think? CT was needed - even if a fail to make the change? Did they issue you with a CT certificate?

As a non-French resident exporting the car how did the system handle it? As a resident - buying a car in France needs a proven French address, insurance proof and ID number - all French carry an identity card.

Registering a cars is also something that requires payment if the car moves to a new owner within France. A lot of people use a specialist notary to do the new ownership admin (the operate like the old DVLA local offices).

I've never taken a car for a CT - but I 'understand' some test centres are more sympathetic to older cars.

If you’re exporting it’s not the same rules so they don’t worry about a change of ownership it’s just exported. Same for CT, it’s the same as the U.K. in that respect apart from you never tell DVLA the French do that for you so you only officially export when it’s actually registered as ANTS are absolutely useless to deal with.

Theres not a lot I can add abut the ANTS side as obvs the seller will be dealing with that. But I think, that when the new owner details (as stated on the Certificate de Cession) are logged on ANTS, its apparent that he's outside of France and thus the car is considered exported.

The seller was living in Spain and had been doing for 2-3 years but he'd never registered the Simca there, it was still on its French papers & logbook. He said the registration process in Spain was complicated and expensive and thats why he'd never done it (and partially why he put it up for sale). So the cert de cession had his old French address on and my UK address.

For the MOT, he wasn't sure if the CG being barred would cause any issues when i took it for a CT. So he left it unbarred and we agreed that after the CT was done I would bar it myself and put his signature on it!!! I mean I'm fine to do that if he doesn't mind, so thats what we did. But I think it would have been OK if it was barred too. The CT people are not interested in who is presenting the car for its test, they didnt ask me for any of my details, ID etc etc. They did issue me with a CT 'bilan' certificate and I need to scan it and send it back to the seller for him to declare the sale, still not done that yet. I will also send him a scan of the barred CG but I don't suppose he needs it, other than to see that I've done what we agreed. The CT was very painless and very much like a UK one - just rock up, wait an hour, then the mechanic tells you what he's found and gives you a paper copy of the results. He didnt seem fazed at all at testing a 46-yr old car.

The seller also left his insurance on it for me. I didn't ask him to do that, and indeed i paid ÂĢ130 for my own 1-month insurance policy, but he did it anyway saying 'let me know when you get home and I'll cancel it then'.

The whole thing was very painless for me tbh. But then again I got a good 'vibe' off the seller when i first enquired about it and he turned out to be super sound and made the whole thing as simple as possible for us both.

Hang on a sec, the purchase price of the Brownmobile isn't included in the ÂĢ1300, thats another ~ÂĢ1050 on top of the ÂĢ1300 expedition costs.

To be fair even that to come out with a car at the end is great. Lots of people jizz away that money on the lottery or scratch cards and don’t have a winners French brownmobile to show for it.

And ÂĢ1300 all in for the collection is good too, you get off of this island and come home with a car. I could think of few better things.

Thanks. Very helpful. When you say barred - do you mean filled in? Is that on the paper form?

Sounds like the right sort of seller. The French system is complex to avoid car theft and ringing of vehicles. The old system buyers just sent the log book to the local Prefecture - but that has all gone.

France is full of interesting old cars to buy - they have more space, sheds, outhouses and garages. Amazing what you see travelling about.IMG_20240505_133532.thumb.jpg.693e8cb5c161f3682a6567e3f46a48a2.jpgIMG_20240508_082252.thumb.jpg.0ddf74e8c83cd05c4268d2ac70582bae.jpgIMG_20240505_103157.thumb.jpg.7bd0e0d524837fa33110b0d54a6d57ad.jpgIMG_20240504_094147.thumb.jpg.324d6fb1409307edfa20d3ed33f79a3c.jpg
