About a mile up the road from me lives this charming "UK" branded shite station:

I also spotted a "Burmah" station whilst on a36 near West wellow:

Do any of you live near any shite stops? Would love to see pics 🙂

I use that one at Bridgewater occasionally. It’s got a load of ruins parked down the side, from memory a couple of old transits, a Skoda and a Commer van. There’s a kid that works in there that looks like Billy Idol.

While driving towards Stirling my sister and I used to laugh at the unfamiliar petrol station brands but that was about 1993 and I haven't got any pics.

Next time I see one I'll get a snap.

British Benzoil used to be one of those really oddball ones you’d see somewhere back o’beyond.

Yeah, there's several skodas and a couple luton vans, and think there's an Austin maxi

Texaco is pretty rare these days. Used to be loads.

Still plenty here in Sussex, all roughly within a 10-15 mile radius of each other!

This must be an award winning open and shut example? :)

I remember it being functional until very recently. It spent a fair amount of time defunct, but has now since been revamped and lost all of its original character.

Can see why it made business sense to remove the monstrosity though!

I think that was during the price spikes. They're usually only a couple p more than supermarket

If I’m out that way I usually diesel up at the Texaco out Minehead way, I nip in there usually for a can of pop for the next leg. What’s the story with the scrap cars in the field behind?

Cheaper than M6 services at Carlisle last week.

I would think so, yes. That price gap between petrol and diesel is about right for that time too

I have 2 of these books, they are pretty good but I think you missed a trick in not doing a "pop up" edition, all the best books are  pop up!

Oh man I’d LOVE to do that 😂👍🏼

PS - Thanks for buying. I spent an absolute fortune publishing them and it’s great to know people actually bought them. I have a googlemap with the locations of c.850 old garage sites marked on it. Didn’t want to make public due to bearded explorer type scumbags turning up and spoiling things.

I was also unimpressed with the revamp and do not think this old shop front near it on Valebridge rd will survive much longer 9acde8b1a20d689ccd35b659c09f853a.jpg

The margins on fuel sales are wafer thin as it is, with very little money to be made. I can believe easily that any issue or need to upgrade would lead an independent operator to go "sod it, I'll stop doing it and concentrate on the garage" quite easily. There's the annual costs of maintenance, testing/certification etc. I think I read that a Gilbarco SK700 - two pumps, two nozzles on each - came in at £16-20k installed? So if a filling station that was plodding along with a couple of Highlines had an issue requiring them to be replaced, it would be very easy to throw the towel in.

Is that a ratchet strap holding the bay window in place?  Good grief!

That reminds me of a tiny junk shop just outside Wolverhampton on the A460 that I've mentioned on here before, the sign read "Everything: All goods bought and sold" and still had the old pre-1995 "Phone Day" number next to it.  Last time I went past would have been in the late 2010s, and the place never looked open but there was sometimes a light on, and there was all manner of junk piled almost floor to ceiling.

That’s superb, bonus points for lack of EV charging.

I thought that had already been revamped into a cliché American sweet shop which lasted all of about 5 minutes in 2021 or something.. I must be thinking of somewhere else if that was 10 months ago as per streetview :)

Famous spot. Well documented and in use until not that long ago.
