It did occur to me not to tax the fucker as at 735 a year, would the fine be any worse?

Probably highly unlikely to get caught for ages 🤣

But the fine is 1.5x the amount of tax + £50 or something

5x the amount of tax if taken to court.. ouch!

£325 to tax my Passat, the robbing bastards. A few quid each year I expect but the last few have been a big jump.

It's definitely designed as an underhand way to get people out of older cars, but it's not going to work on me as other than fuel it costs me next to nothing to run.

This is the mentality you are dealing with that they think by putting up the tax a hundred quid a year will have you all running out and buying a £40,000 electric car. Life is very straightforward in the minds of a lot of the middle/upper class that are in Government. Simply put your hand in your pocket and spend your way out of the issue, I can honestly see a situation coming about where the average working person is put back to a position they’d be in the fifties where access to a car was unlikely unless you had a fair bit of wedge in your pocket.

And that's exactly what these greedy lying shower of robbing fkrs want...... ie hopefully to get our old shitters off the roads that we've all paid handsomely for to drive on.

And for what..

To pay for my over 60 travel concession ? 👍😜

That's when the trains work ....

Why do they want us out of cars though what for. Yes the country and many others are very congested, is this the only reason.

If that's the reason then why build so many roads and motorways through the years.

The automotive industry worldwide is worth billions, why do they want it gone as the way we know it.

Keep you in your place that’s why. Even Mercedes have consoled themselves that realistically they would make more by selling fewer but more expensive cars.

The latest thing that made me laugh about ULEZ was sending the "refugee vehicles" to Ukraine. Ermmm... Ok then!? So it's got fuck all to do with scrapping the "polluting" vehicles but actually just punishing the ordinary motorist to meet the otherwise unfeasible climate targets/agendas, it must be ok if the pollution occurs in Ukraine! Almost as if it's on the same frigging planet? 🤣🤣

Much as I despise Khan and the ULEZ expansion, that is more about air quality in London than the global climate so from that point of view it does make sense.

So they don't want us mere mortals going where we want and when, they want to control everything about us.

Why though this is what don't get.

I've no idea how the equivalent VED works over here, as it is set by each towns authority in The Valencia province. You can pay less, or more, depending on what area you live in.

Whoever owns the car on January the first owes the tax for that year. Buy the car (or bike) in early January and you have 50 weeks free tax.

Not sure how much VED is on a 1.3 Doblo diesel in the UK, but due to pay €86 in May for 2024 tax year. Happy to pay that  as the roads are excellently maintained.

Lucky you ie the roads are well maintained unlike here!

But them here in power (for some stupid reason only they know but won't say or tell lies which they're very good at!)

Won't fix ours or do a shite half arsed job so they can say  "well they're fixed" because they want us off the roads.

Being honest, depending how my health goes in the next few years, I might not be driving so hopefully won't care.

One thing really annoying me and probably many others, the amount of money I've wasted through the years buying, selling, fixing up etc.  I could have been worth quite a bit 😡

The price of post April 2006 guzzlers is dropping - jag XFR's now under £7k.

I have my eye on a another BMW 545 but the seller is a bit optimistic with the price. Even that will be £435 a year.

Ultimately I think the morons we keep electing simply want people out of personal transport.

Oooft I remember looking at these not so long ago and they were closer to 15k! I have to say the 35 I spent on the Alfa is an absolute revelation after spending upwards of 300 a year

I think it would make more sense to just add the vat to fuel and not have a vehicle tax. So use more fuel and pollute more then pay more

They won't because they know it's a good rip off/ scam the way it is and we don't anything apart from moan and pay.

Quite a bit of persecution complex going on in this thread.  Me9, have you considered beta blockers?

That's not what it is

Taxation does change, for many reasons. It really is that simple. Some taxes go down, others go up. It's not a conspiracy. This is an easy money raiser and helps to influence behaviour (choosing more fuel-efficient cars) that is seen as desirable

Yep

You must admit though, this place the way it's ran is a bloody joke.

I don’t know what you lot are bitching about, check out the Vehicle Emissions Duty payable on first registration here. (Ok it’s a one time thing with no annual road tax thereafter, offset by a few p extra on fuel)

Want to import an old Range Rover? Hope you have deep pockets.

Jesus Christ. 201g/km is not even a massive amount. Would've been 8 grand for my old 2005 Astra, for God's sake

And yet the £20 band remains. Bank K is a nominal doubling of CO2 emissions from Band B - yet is twenty times as expensive.

VED really is the most stupidly designed tax.

How is a moped more expensive to tax than a mid-2000s diesel car?

Im an outlier, but i hardly drive anywhere. In general i only drive for pleasure. Abolishing VED and adding it as a component of fuel duty would suit my usage more realistically and to my eyes would be fairer, but also i don’t care.

For instance id like to have a post 2006 taxi- id hardly ever use it, and theres the rub. £800 per year just to use it occasionally- no thanks. But im an eccentric outlier and they have to make some sort of generallised basis to legislate from.

£345 a year for a 1991 2.6 190E . My other two are free as around 60 years old each . i class the free ones as my way of justifying the amount on the Merc which is way less than many pay on here . its a money making exercise  by the gubbermint pure and simple

Exactly, it’s not progress it’s going backwards for the working classes but beneficial for the middle/upper class. Great for social equality that.

Who every time something doesn’t go right stands and says ‘I wouldn’t have done it like that’ but can’t explain what they would do or how they’d fund it?
