Warch buys a shite Astraaargh!

I feel like I'm properly joining in now.

The problem is that I only own two vehicles, a Land Rover (which everyone on Autoshite hates) and a Nissan Qashqai which is commonly regarded as the precursor of the automotive apocalypse.

So I went ebay shopping and discovered a car that I reckon will improve my standing in the shiter community. It's a bit of project but it has potential and it's coming on Tuesday. It's 950 quid which is a lot for a car which needs work/has parts missing but it's only 1 year away from the magic big four oh, and free tax and mot exemption. It's also in much better condition than any mass market car built in the mid-80s has any right to be. Surprisingly parts availability seems pretty good.

It's also the base model.

I really hope it's a Talbot of some description, that'll be awesome!

Renner 11 TC.

I've owned a Renault 11 which was awesome and also would've fitted the bill rather nicely, sadly I haven't seen one for years. Ditto Talbots. An old dub would have been the lazy option, they were generally actually quite well made in this period, unlike Fords, which are either stratospherically expensive or living their best life as a dishwasher by now. Nova's also have an odd sort of a following that keeps prices high. My one and only experience of an old Alfa was a 164 my brother had, which was oddly rather dependable and well put together.

Mini Metro is a good shout, my Mum and Dad owned one immediately before purchasing an example of the car I've bought in 1985.

Obviously doesn't carry a VW or blue oval badge with that price tag.

Trying to think what you might get for £950 on an 85 reg that's not completely rotten by now.
Maestro/Montego? An old Corolla maybe? A whiffy but running Merc 190?

Maybe something Japanese? Corolla or some type of Nissan like a Cherry?

Maybe a mark4 escort. I had one of these it was a tank, mine was a ghia it had fake wood trim and a rear window wiper lol

I'm slightly worried that I've created too much hype by the much more interesting cars that people have posted. Much as I'd love something exotic* one consideration for me was that it needed to be something I could still get parts for.

* Ok French

Someone has already guessed what it is. But they were utterly mass market and generic, back in the day you'd see them everywhere, now they're almost completely extinct.

There's been a few nice looking Corollas on eBay and Marketplace recently so I'm going Toyota.
