Sounds terrifying but at least you got there in one piece.

I expect that not much phases Cameron.

Off on a collection mission! Long train journey ahead...

Train was booked for 13.20, with an arrival at destination at 17.11.

As I'm super organised (lol) I also had a doctor's appointment at 12.15, so it was gonna be a tight day.

Appointment went quickly, got home and got Taxi to the station....

That's when it all went wrong!

Went to collect my tickets, went to get my phone out to check reservation number.... couldn't find it! Left it in the taxi!
Station payphone out of order, of course.
I had to go over to taxi office (different taxi company) to ask them to phone the other company and see if the driver could come back. They were lovely and helpful and we managed to get it sorted but obviously missed my train. 🤦🏻‍♀️

Going to see if I can make up time on the connections. Next train is 13.46....

Well, I think I'm going to get caught up, as when I got to Kings Cross there was a train going to Grantham that was only 13 mins after the one I missed.

The next change over was going to be 17 mins, so hopefully that gives me 5 mins to make the original Grantham to Nottingham train.

Yay.

Ticket inspection time..... Fuuuuck. The ticket I have was LNER but the train I caught was a Hull Trains one. So not valid. Had to buy a ticket for £33

This is proving to be a very expensive roffle win 🤦🏻‍♀️ 😅

Although I've not had to say it for a while, I've certainly said it many times before.

Hmm. Is that normal?

Round town driving

Fan kicks in and temp goes down a little but not far

Not in the winter, if you haven't already done so, advise checking coolant level and the radiator condition. Also is the heater blowing hot air, if not check the  heater radiator inlet and outlet pipes, both should be hot.

Was it like it all the way back yesterday? Might have the wrong t/stat.

No it was fine all the way back.

Heater is less effective than yesterday

I'd check coolant level and see if its got air in the system. Its a little higher than I'd expect, but unless its welds its self to hot its normally a cooling system issue rather than the dreaded OMGHGF. If its fluctuated and blows cold when ticking over its normally air.

Maybe it's just seen you in daylight? 😃

Yeah, I do tend to raise temperatures in some people - for various reasons

Moving on, back to the car.

Topped coolant up a little, drove around, and it was high on the first bit of the journey, and then after subsequent restarts etc it settled back down to the middle level.

Coolant reservoir is very gunky, so potentially the system just needs a good flush and fresh coolant in.

sounds like its time for a dishwasher tab

I hope so. I can't remember without looking back but hasn't this just had an engine change? I'd be surprised if new coolant wasn't used...

Check the radiator, they lose the fins(?) between the channels over time.  I drove to Bristol from Yorkshire on a wet February day in my MG and the fan never seemed to go off!  I'd be reluctant to use a dishwasher tablet on an all-alloy engine having seen how much aluminium they can dissolve.

Could be the stat has jammed after your long trip if it's not been used much?  Sometimes there is a ball in the flange of the stat that allows water through before it opens which is handy for preventing air locks. Obviously do check for any creamy residue on the dipstick, and that the heater is set on hot so that it isnt cut off from the rest of the system. Check the rad cap for cracks or a leaking o ring, sometimes can be something simple.
