£400?! He’ll have it forever, I hope. Greedy bastard.

Its amazing what some people think things are worth. Have similar atm looking for a detachable towbar for my XJ, just the detachable ball/swan neck is missing. One on ebay, wants £300, just for the detachable bit. Bearing in mine the whole towbar & electrical kit from Jag was only £350. And probably only about 20 ever fitted, so his audience of prospective buyers is me, and....probably just me! Won't budge on price though as he "knows what he has", which is great, he just doesn't know what its worth🙈

I don't think Mondeo rear lights will ever be £400. But maybe me or others on here should stock up just in case, cos my pension arrangements are shit not shite!

@riek

He was asking for the lights 1/10th of what I paid for my Sapphire. On the rough estimate that a cheap Cossie is worth around £40k, those lights were only 1/100 of the car’s value, so you’re probably right.

I've been to a lot of autojumbles and the sellers fall into four broad groups:

  • Deluded sellers who will carry an item to and from 1000 jumbles rather than take a penny off it
  • Excuse me, Sir. Did you get lost on your way to the tip? I assume you meant to take this wet tarp covered in electrode-less spark plugs and broken BL switchgear to the tip.
  • Car boot shit that has no place at an autojumble (the Mr Frosty with ants on it category)
  • (<1%) A good item at a fair price sold by a seller who is a) actually present at the stall and b) didn't learn customer service by watching XL bully attack videos on LiveLeak

Oh! gotta go! it's 9am time to start packing up. See you next time as I continue my lucrative career of getting up at 2am to try and sell used 1990s Transponder car keys from this bucket I've been driving around the country for the last decade

Presumably he's waiting for a cossie licker to come along.

Sad thing is that he'll probably find one eventually!

Also these that carry round rusty lidded tins of paint and half used aerosols.

I’d piss myself if he dropped the fucker on its edge as he put it back in the van.

I've clocked up just over 220 miles in the Sierra in the past three days.

On Monday, I went from Beaconsfield to Bushey and back, via the M40, M25 and A41.

Yesterday, I went from Beaconsfield to Hoddesdon and back, via the M40, M25 and A10.

Today I went from Beaconsfield to Camberley, then to Windsor and back, via the M40, M25, M3 and M4.

The Sierra was a treat to drive, no issues to report.

I filled the tank on route home.

Here comes the maths.

220 miles = 354 km

3.JPG.379b46336de5b16806d203656f62857c.JPG

354km clocked up and used 23 litres of fuel

4.JPG.ca992ce0ef119fa9ff958136a6724afe.JPG

That equals 6.5 litres / 100 km, which equates to 43.5MPG

That's brilliant, considering that my brand new Nissan Qashqai tells me the MPG it achieved after each journey and it rarely betters 40-42 MPG.

In other news, thank you to @cort16 for providing this gift.

The repair section may come in handy one day as whoever welded up the rear section of the nearside sill was most probably visually impaired.

More soon.

Totally unrelated but I was watching an old episode of Crimewatch - I know I know I’m a completely sad bastard! One of them was a couple that had been involved in some double dealing shit at a garage and they ended up getting locked in the boot of the Sapphire and it was torched, it was a blue one like yours.

This probably adds nothing to your day but I thought I’d point it out.

Have you seen this?

I haven’t seen this video but I saw the car in the flesh at Ford Fest.

re the rear lights. £400 for the pair to doesn't sound too horrendous to me especially with Cossie Tax. How much do they go for second hand in ok condition, say £100 each? You could sell your old ones for £200 then it's only cost £200 to have brand spankers.

Just as a vague comparison Renault Alpine GTA rear lights are now fetching £1000 a pair in mint condition, those cars are not in the cossie territory price wise.

@Hertz

The two lights that I’ve been offered via the Sierra Facebook group were offered to me for £50 inc p&p, both in good condition but sadly both sellers were time wasters and the deals fell through.

I think that £200 for a tail light for a Sierra is too much and I’m sure that if we start to make comparisons with the cost of parts for exotica, which a Sierra certainly isn’t one, we could easily start talking big numbers, like the rear lights for the GTA that you referred to.

There seem plenty on LeBonCoin but of course they may be a different spec or something. Try looking there?

I’m in France now, I’ll have a look.

Go onto LBC - depending how long you are there you could either collect or get it sent to where you are staying.  There did seem quite a few. Bon chance.

Had a look, nothing.

Let me know know the specific year and model and I will have a detailed look. Have you got their App or are you depending on the website? I have the App - but it's barred from UK phones I think.

I am at a huge French autojumbe in October I will put word out there too if you have not found anything.

Could you post a picture of the saloon version so I can compare with what's online and elsewhere.

I keep managing to ask the motorfactor about this. He's a number of similar things lying on high shelves and I know he has quite a few Sierra lamps as I got fresh ones for the bASe from there a few years ago. Essentially, when a part sold, he'd replace it in his stock... and the time just came when nobody bought a Sierra rear light cluster, or an Astra Mk1 headlamp, or an Orion diesel radiator. Will try and call within the next week.
