I'd absolutely love an FX4.

I'd replace the driver's seat with something less conducive to spinal injury, then just fill it with veg and smoke around everywhere. 

Worth it for the soundtrack alone.

I love the dashboard with all the toggle switches with their little labels, yet its all attached to something on a Y suffix plate!, also this particular one is one of the very last with the original BMC diesel before they moved to the Land Rover engines, I do gotta wonder whats going on with that front wing, did someone really just over-plate it? LOL

That is lovely! I would imagine that just bimbling along on an A or B road on a warm summer day must be a wonderful experience.

Personally, the only Jowett I consider stodge is the Bradford in utility estate form since it's basically a van with windows.  Even then it's pushing it because Jowetts are a bit too forward thinking in general to be stodgey.

Singer saloons were a cut-above everyday stodge - quality cars and a bit more expensive with SOHC engines, fully hydraulic brakes and nice interiors. Quite usable.

They survived as an independent 'till the mid-50's but could not remain competitive  and were then snapped up by Rootes and 'badge engineered' out of existence.

The site of their Coventry factory is now a supermarket...

Singer saloon? Oh you mean the donor cars for Le Mans replicas!

The only Singer worth talking about or preserving is the Le Mans. Phact.

Took the Oxford out for some Exercise (grabbing fuel for Elgrand so I could top it up at the station cos the Burd said needle didn't move today!)

Started right up within 2 turns, choke off after 30secs.

Short hop (500 yards to petrol station) started again no issue.

1.5 miles to the Elgrand. Started fine after I put the petrol in the Elgrand.

300yards to the co-op to get dinner. Started fine.

Took scenic route home, ran fine.

Got passed by a 2JZ Soarer in fantabulous skidder condition - sounded ace.

Caught them at next traffic lights, pulled up in left lane to much waving and 👍

Had him off the line! From 0-0.5mph🤣

Fair few toots/waves/weans stopping and pointing.

All in all, BRAW.

Here's one I can't make my mind up about, verdicts welcome.  They're a rare sight and have been for quite a while.  They're sort of dumpy and plain and have this air of being low level management or civil servant, especially in black.  A car that's just sort of... there.

Another Ford that probably qualifies is the 100e.  They're so often seen modified and improved that it can be hard to remember just how dull they can be.  Maybe I'm wrong on these too, maybe they really are more than just An Car.

100Es are defo stodge. Modifying doesn't count. Much in the same way that putting trainers on your Grandma doesn't make her Linford Christie

Mk1 Consul definitely stodge, they boldly say to the world, “I can’t afford a Zephyr”

Until I was 9, Dad had Mk 1 Zephyrs which aren’t that different to look at, but somehow were a bit flash. Ford skill at positioning their product in the market!

They certainly get the stodge vote from me. Even as a youngster we never wanted the 100E. Sidevalve engine and 3 speed box just screamed poverty mobile. The Consul Mk1 was the same. The Mk2  was much more desirable. Much more style.

Consul - stodge now but revolutionary at the time and the beginning of Ford's dominance in the UK. First 3-box styling, unitary construction, OHV engine, McPherson struts, hydraulic clutch etc.

A huge 227,732 made in four years from 1951 - not even counting the Zephyrs.

Decimated the BMC stable who just could not keep up. The 1950-54 Austin A70 Hereford, in comparison, only sold 48,640.

Most just got used up in everyday driving so very few left. But they really were something in their day...Maurice Gatsonides in his Zephyr won the 1953 Monte Carlo Rally - they were that good.

The Pilot wasn't stodgy, having a 3.6 litre V8 and rather poor brakes.

Cable operated rear brakes...yikes.

There were 22,155 Pilots made.
