Just can't decide?.

I bought a set of spotlights for my BMW last year, Just plastic backed Hella ones, but I know can't decide if i like them or not, The standard headlights are pretty piss poor TBH and i thought that not only will they look a bit more sporty, they would also help at night.

Trouble is now I've sat them on the bumper I'm not sure if they look right, What do you lot thing?, Go for it or just chuck them back into a draw in the garage and forget about them?.

Without.

Very badly just resting on the bumper.

Those will look great IMO.

I concur, especially if you lose the squint.

Leave 'em on look good.

Stick with 'em...they look very "in keeping" with the car.Nice car, too :D

Put them on, they're right for the car :D They probably won't help much at night unless you do a lot of driving on main beam. Can you not get new headlight units for the Beemer? Usually it’s the reflective bits which degrade, losing the light.Might also be worth checking the voltage at the bulb and the voltage at the battery to see if you’re losing any volts through the switch or connectors.

So the general feeling is to fit them then?, I reckon I'll have to have a play fitting them and seeing what they look like when all lined up properly.

I thought they might be a bit big and cluttered on the front but looking on the web quite a few others have them fitted in the same size.

Hmm... Too many spots on this.

Spotlight overkill!

Ah hang on, These are the same spots as mine, That doesn't look to bad does it.

Only thing I'd be concerned about is if you have to drill through that lovely bumper.Funnily enough, I've got an identical pair of spots in my garage. I bought them in 2000 but haven't been able to bring myself to fit them to anything! (they were purchased for my Subaru Impreza but I got rid of that instead).

Cheers guys, TBH i won't be using the car much at night anyway as it's only a third 'fun' car (Early 30th birthday present from the wife). The 02's are notorious for poor front headlight beams, and mines even worse as the reflective bits are corroded. New units from Jaymic are not cheap and i think it's a bit of a job to remove them as they are welded to the front panel (i'll have to check on this), You can buy just the reflectors but i think they are about £80+vat each.

It's o.k Ian, I bought some chrome clamps from USA last year to fit them with so no drill needed!, tidy 02 bumpers like mine are like rocking horse poo and are worth a bit as they used very thin chrome on them from new and most of them rotted away (or got dented).

I'm sure you could make a C bracket with rubber insulation so it clamps against the underside, rather than drilling through?

As these were sold in the US, is it possible to fit (cheap) sealed beam headlights?

You mean like those RING H4 units like Golf and Mini owners buy?. I'm not sure TBH, That's another thing I'd have to look into. It's off for it's weldathon tomorrow morning at the garage behind the kebab shop up my road, Cheapest quote so far, two patches (One a jacking point) for £80 cash.Hopefully they won't set it on fire like when my dads when had his sill welded in the 70's on his Triumph 2000, The garage he used didn't know that the fuel pipe ran along inside the sill and whoosh, Goodbye Triumph and goodbye workshop!.

I like the spots, and if you can fit them without drilling the bumper, go for it!

I'm with the support FOR the spots. :D:D:D

Aren't the h/lamps H4 though. If so try the Phillips Hi plus or something like that. I've got the H1 versions in my 323 (which sees very little night action anyway) and they are definitely better. :D:D

I'm going to say I think it'd look better without them to be honest. If it's just to improve the lighting, have you looked into the possibility of replacing the headlights with better-spec ones? If they're the original sealed-beam type you can replace them with H4s, Bosch do them.

Hirst your not helping! I'm really not sure which way to go now! I want to give it a slightly more sporty look and help with the dismal lighting.I haven't a clue if the H4 units fit these or not, Something I'll have to ask on the 02 forum i guess.

After my last suggestion,a more sensible one. When I used to have Cortinas & Granadas,I used to fit spots behind the grille.

Posted

I'd say fit 'em. Just make sure you do it in a way that means they can be removed without leaving any marks etc.

There was a chap on RR that fitted the spots behind the grill i quite like it.

Thing is as my car is totally standard still i think that they would look a bit odd done like that on mine, I'll just fit them as it's not like it's gonna do any harm.

I like the behind the grille look.I'm a fan of the very bluff, plain front end styling without spotlights fouling it - but it's your car!

Posted

I'm a without I'm afraid. A bit fluffy dice and nodding dog in my opinion.Sorry!! :(

If your headlights are poor then maybe they need a wee revamp! Do these cars use relays for the lights? I 'relay'd' my CX headlights last September and they are definitely better. Also, I'm not against the spots - they look good but I do prefer the look of it standard.*EDIT* sorry! I replied to this without reading page two.

Posted

No idea on relays, I've never really paid much attention to it!, I'm still struggling to make my mind now!, It's a real 50/50 thing with the spots!

Posted

I can see from your photo the chrome reflective part of your headlights seem dull and worn away in places. If the headlamp lense unclips you can now buy chrome paint to spruce them up a bit.

Posted

They are really flacky inside and they must unclip some how as you can buy replacement reflectors for them, Maybe chrome paint is the way forwards then.

I'd vote against. I like how clean the car's styling is, and although I think the lights look good, they clutter it up a bit.I absolutely love the lights behind the grille though, I wonder if I could do that on my car...
