For sale/wants section

Do you think this would be a good idea?If you read through the threads there does seem to be a few people either wanting or having stuff for sale, does it warrant its own section,or best kept as is?.

You mean like creating a sub-forum? (is that what they're called?) If so then yeah, why not.

Autotrader style dictates that a For Sale advert ends up looking like this though:One "For Sale" postThree "Blimey, you selling that? shame" posts. Two "If only I had the cash" postsFour "My dad had one of those, it was great/crap/rusty/beige" postsThree comparisons to similar cars Eight posts of discussion about what they were thinking when they made itTwo posts containing scanned images from the original brochureSome pictures of similar cars taken at showsA post asking if anyone's ever changed the master cylinder one of theseBest will in the world, if that was reproduced on any other forum there would be bloodshed by nightfall. We don't do forsale adverts, we do conversations which start with an offer of something and then dissolve into shite-based ramblings, so a ForSale board would just be another chat board.

No. Don't think theres that much of a requirement tbh. Maybe a For Sale / Wanted post that is made sticky but thats about it.

No from me. When I first arrived here, I found it odd that there was no separate sub-forum for any classefieds, but I soon got used to it. I do feel the forum would suffer from the creation of a classified section, as people would only look in to the forum to see what's for sale (as I do on other fora) but won't realy get involved with the discussion. In other words, if it isn't broken, don't fix it!

We would also be deluged with mouth breathers signing up to advertise their ragged out hatchbacks fitted with Lexus lights for £800 (16x9s, nokking noys, easey reppair bargin suit enthusyst, etc). A proportion of them would then hang around to abuse each others cars in txt spk. That would not be good.

Whilst with hind site I agree with most of the "no" comment, can I point out that as the present sale adds degenerate in their own style, as they do..why would that change if it was in a seperate section?also as we don't get the Lexus light brigade at the moment, why would having a seperate section suddenly make them want to sign up or for the managment to allow them in?Don't get me wrong I don't want AS to change, but I can't see why those of us that post here would suddenly degenerate into knuckle dragging morons just because we have a for sale section :?:

A 'for sale' forum would mean that the site offered a free advertising resource. That would change things a bit; at the moment it's not obvious to the casual visitor that you can post ads, but once it was people would start signing up to do it.Even if ability to post in the 'for sale' forum was restricted to those with a certain post count, we would start seeing posts along the lines of 'wtf i carnt post mi corsa for sale lol it is wel fast all mi m8s say so lol an they hav imprezzas an they cudnt overtak becus of all the blew smoak poaring from my exsorst lol lol lol'

I say NO. Use retro-rides for sale board instead, its got plenty of decent gear on, has good traffic and is well managed. Most shiters are on there too so you might as well.

No thanks. I think the single forum works well, and if you do post wanted or for sale threads I'm sure no-one would object if the OP (or anyone else) bumps them to the top just to keep them in view for a while.

Put it in a Members Only subforum that casual visitors can't see.Delete the tread once the item was sold.

I think it is best left as it is.Mentioned earlier there would be alot more registering just for the free advertising.Do we really need another Austin Towers episode as I think that kind of thing is likely to happen.Someone selling an old shiter and the buyer being unreasonable when something goes wrong with the car then hounding the seller all over the forum.Personally it would be good for me as I sell old shiters for part of my living.I just don't think it would be good for the forum.

That pretty much sums up everything I love about this site...

 indeed. Though I don't think a for sale section would make any difference.

When I sold my Disastra on here to greenvanman, it was painless, I advertised it as a heap of shit with MOT. He bought it, no quibble, and was so happy with it, he even washed it when he got it home.Leave it be.

From experience of other forums offering FS sections I would have to say leave this as it is. So that's a No then :D

If you want to sell a car stick to Retro Rides i think, Of couse if you do want to sell your car on here I can't see it being a problem, You'll just have to bump it up yourself and expect it to be talked about.

I guess leave as is...Just wanted to see what you all thought, its great as is,no probs, just wondered.

Without getting into F0rumWarz... RR's style is more1 For Sale post4 "You want how much??" posts1 bump because it's not sold in the 3 hours since the first post3 "If only I had the cash" posts2 "Why can't you just not answer if you can't afford it" posts1 post asking for information contained within the first post3 abusive replies quoting the advert with the information requested highlighted and lots of rolleyes smileys.4 "This used to be a much nicer place" posts1 moderator locking the thread. Sorry, but keep the adverts in the main section. AS is much better all blended together, it means I read every thread instead of hopping to the interesting ones, because the contents can differ massively from the title!
