Your chance to save a car from being RR'd

I know a few people on here have very strong views on what the Retro Rides type do to their cars. I am taking this opportunity to let you all know what I propose to do, and give you the chance to do something about it!

Car in Question...

I plan to lower the front slightly and fit the wheels pictured below.

What my question mainly is, is it acceptable, as my mods are reversable?

Or will 70 acres of rainforest be mushed up and fed to the polar bears with a side serving of climate change?

I have a good history of modifying cars and keeping the mods sensitive to the car I'd say...

All I say is... If you don't like it, then buy it off me before I 'ruin' it.

Anything reversible is win.... painting it matt black and deliberately damaging it is not win.Carry on :)

Posted

Meh! Its your motor, do what you want to it. Enjoy it.

Short of using it for target practice with a 40mm shell whatever you do will be reversible with enough time and money.

I'm with FT here. It's your car to do as you please, who cares what anyone else thinks?

Posted

I'd be happy to drive that as it is, it looks brand new!Don't think it'd deserve the RR treatment, or if it would look decent anyway.

Posted

same with me, mod the bugger.......I mod everything I get my hands on as a general rule....there are some exceptions though 8)

I hate slotmags, they seem like the no.1 uninspired choice of wheels for any older car and they instantly date anything newer than about 1973 - I don't think the design suits a 1980s car. One of the only cars slotmags look reasonable on is the Reliant Scimitar GTEBut hey, it's your car and all that.Didn't you get rid of your Lada because you rendered it almost undriveable by the way? Wouldn't want the same to happen to the Bluebird.

Posted

Not keen on the wheels but a small drop on the suspension would be good...

Posted

Not something I would do but its your car and you can do as you like with it. There is subtle modding which when done well can look good, like your Mazda, then there is fucking a car completely, like that Maestro on here a few weeks back.

x1 I'm not keen on the wheels neither just don't matt black it!, At the end of the day it's your car so you do what you want.It is only a Bluebird (Sorry guys) and there are 1000's more of them still on the road, so It's not like it's something rare.

Reversible is FTW, as FT said its your car, but when you go to pass it on, as long as its reversible then its a double win.Personally I loved the Lada estate, stupidly low, but replace springs and hey presto Shite o matic :D

Posted

Yes it is your car, and I can't stop you doing what you want with it. I am still entitled to my opinion though.

I think this looks like it's got broken suspension. More to the point, I bet you some misguided coppers would too. It's old, it's near to the ground, must be broken. I think you should leave the car as it is. Up to you though

Posted

Your ride, your way. That is all. Pics when done, please 8)

Posted

I love the slotmags but I agree they wouldnt suit an 80s car. They are a very 70s wheel.

Posted

Some interesting comments there.RE - the Lada; you are right, I did overdo it. If I ever get another, I wouldn't go that low. As you see with the Mazda, it was a learning curve, so technically the Bluebird should be awesome.

Posted

You don't have to justify your own actions with a car belonging to yourself. If you choose to send it around the oval or scrappage it against a new Matiz you have my approval. :D

Posted

As others have said, it's your car, do what you like with it.Personally I reckon it would look ok slightly lowered, not sure about the wheels though, something more of its era might be better I'd have thought.

Posted

Is it really necessary to lower cars such as these? I'm not having a go, as the others have said, you can do what you want to your own car, but I just wonder what benefit you get from modifying a fairly pedestrian car in this way?

I seem to recall something an old French philosopher once said, it was something like 'I dont like your vehicle modification plans, but I respect your right to carry them out'Slotmags invariably look absolutely dreadful IMO except on Scimitars and 70's hot rods. On a bluebird they would say 'I found these alloys at a car boot for a tenner and the tyres were still legal on them. I was out of work at the time and skint so I lobbed em on'

PMSL.....:lol: Wish I could find a set that cheap..

Won't the offset be all wrong and look a bit lousy? I agree with the above really, slotmags tend to look a bit rubbish on anything past the 70s, to be honest even a lot of stuff from the 70s. Never liked how 240Zs always seem to end up with them.

On a Bluebird, surely some kind of super 80s polished flatface/turbine type wheels would look a lot better. This kind of thing.

Have a look at the Ratdat Wheel Guide A-Z for a few ideas: http://www.ratdat.com/?page_id=101

If someone had the balls to import a set of bizzare FWD offset wheels from Japan I would give MEGA RESPECT out.

Posted

Yeah, I'd like to see a little more inspiration in the wheels TBH....

I really struggle to find anything right about a Nissan Bluebird, modify the granny out of it I say, then hunt down a Lada for a bit of character!

This is EXACTLY what I was thinking, I just could not articulate it in such a way as not make me appear a total arse*.

I agree with everyone else who said it's yours so do exactly what you want with it. If you put it on here and ask whether people LIKE what you've done, then that's a different matter. It won't make any difference to you whether they express approval or not, but it might annoy you if you knew what some of them thought.

Always?

See, ^that^ is fine, period correct modification even if it was done last tuesday. I know you have to try things to see if they work, but you just -know- sometimes when something isn't going to. It IS like Mr_Bo1's synopsis. Even more irritating is when the "it was cheap so I changed" is dressed up in OMG GROUND-BREAKING STYLE MASH-UP.
