I'm hoping to drag race this at Crail on the 15th May, so decided to give it a check over prior to that (and with enough time to get anything needed..)

Had it up in the air checking all the front suspension and brakes - nothing to worry about which is pleasing.

Time to pack up then.

*Shuts bonnet*

NOPE.

Cock.

The latch that holds the bonnet pin has seized open. So the bonnet just sits on the safety hook.

Nothing for it but to strip and clean the mechanism then.

First, remove the upper grill securings at the left and right, then pull the grill gently forward to expose the latch mounting.

The 10mm bolts received a goodly dose of remonstrating fluid, and a cup of coffee was consumed.

To whit, both came undone without issue.

There was a fair amount of gunk under the latch - so much so that it wouldn't return properly.

This is part way through cleaning:

IMG_20220430_135515788.thumb.jpg.78e7b2d50edc80acbad7ca38c8703923.jpg

And here it is after a re-greasing:

IMG_20220430_140052353.thumb.jpg.35d73ef8eaee6ae34fc020f33ba2b4e1.jpg

Installation is the reverse of removal, and it's all operational now.

Such is the way of Clio Lyfe!

Could be worse. Our old megane had the two part cable which would bust apart at the linkage rendering the bonnet shut. Big time.

After twice unbolting the bugger a ratchet spanner click at a time I realised I could position my now well multi jointed practically snake arm up the front after ripping off some plastic shit to pop the fucker.
Was a good car really. However I did not cry when I put it in the bin.
Had it been a tad more fast and light…

Enjoy

Fucking thing.

Less than 24hrs after booking the hillclimb it has puked out all it's power steering fluid.

High pressure line has exploded - all over the engine bay + dumped it all on the road.

Getting fed up with this now..

IMG_20230401_134409227.thumb.jpg.4b232dfd1d01b69a9d8ec86459c77f46.jpgIMG_20230401_134403160.thumb.jpg.cea1ce86e72ef69a617efcf3e8ecf227.jpg

need to see if I can source another line -  looking like a flexi one may be best bet as opposed to rigid stock one.

Dunno if it will be fixed in time for the climb...

No, it's a convoluted affair.

I have done one previously - @dome still has PTSD from it.

The flexi hose kit looks great but is just shy of £200 then needs fitting

Bastards. Thought it worth a shout as a mate worked mobile for a couple of outfits in the past and was always making up all sorts.

At 200 notes you'd be better off converting it to EPAS. Best thing I ever did to mine.

I'm not convinced by the EPAS on the Kangoo. It's a million times better now I've fitted an aftermarket steering wheel but I found it too light and inconsistent compared to the hydro setup, even on the lowest assistance setting.

If I'd known that the flexy line kit existed at the time I'd have done that.

@320touring the Flexi line will pay for itself a million times over when it comes to fitting it I'm sure

@320touring

Mine is the mirror opposite to that, mine is set on the lowest setting because it's reasonably heavily weighted, definitely not light.

I'm not a particularly lightweight bloke or weakling either, so very strange.

Got this back today.

Clio Stu had fitted the new flexible high pressure power steering line. And a new pressure switch for the rack.

IMG-20230520-WA0016.thumb.jpg.984b5014bec9cb8ddbe1326b10f7b44d.jpg

He also found that the oil pressure switch was enfuckernaterd

IMG-20230520-WA0014.thumb.jpg.957e91845a1582bf40f47566ddf83be1.jpg

Apparently never seen one as bad..

IMG-20230520-WA0017.thumb.jpg.6df6d0ea9ac4a02b37445ff6cc211902.jpg

it also got a new rear shock as apparently it was dripping onto his head when he went underneath.

IMG-20230520-WA0018.thumb.jpg.2b5e71da4a257692f23f5fe4033b5627.jpg

IMG-20230520-WA0015.thumb.jpg.41265305587421dadb245fa77e6e518b.jpg

he also sorted another couple of issues.

Collected it, driving lovely. No faults. Brilliant.

Got home, parked up.

2hrs passes

Took it out to go for a walk.

Lovely walk.

Clio now misfiring and occasionally flashing EML.

IMG_20230527_184920426.thumb.jpg.5295c9182cab9cc0b57696fb5e333ec0.jpg

Cheap code reader to the rescue

Fucking things! And the passenger door handle has failed too.

Managed not to set it on fire so far...

I lusted after one of these when I was a yoot, still look at them from time to time on AutoTrader etc but they seem to be the definition of "would suit enthusiast" - even paying decent money for one seems to offer little protection against them spontaneously fucking up - paying more just means it looks tidier while its sat there waiting for recovery.

I definitely don't have the patience. Hope you get this shithouse sorted and driving up a hill soon.

Mine has been pretty reliable, I've only ever had one FTP but that was years ago when I had to resync the immobilizer when I returned the car to the road. But saying that I have did go over everything thoroughly when I put it on the road, there is alot of knackered shit out there and folk are asking strong money.

Does the power steering switch do anything really apart from find another place to leak, when I went epas I unplugged it and it still never gave an eml or triggered any other warning.

Was out for my godson's 21st birthday dinner.

Good wee night, then headed back to his to get some birthday cookie...

Came under the Raith interchange heading from Blantyre to Bellshill.

Check left mirror before pulling in to the slip lane for the junction.

Traffic car.

Great

Followed me off,

Through first roundabout

Left at second and pulled in behind me.

Window down, usual 'evening officer' schpiel.

"We stopped you because your rear tyres looked low"

"Feel free to have a look around"

"All look ok, name/addy etc"

"Thanks, off you go"

I reckon they just saw it was a 182 and thought it'd be an easy bust🤣

The disappointment on the boys face when he saw a 42year old fat bald cunt was palpable.

Yup, they look so young now. A lesson for him.

Deep down I bet you were sad they didn't invent something and give you a night in the cells like the good old days... 🧓🤣

Equally, that sounds like an instant pass of the attitude test and everyone's happy. One of the more scary things about the state I found my front tyres in is I genuinely didn't know and would have done just what you did and probably had a huge fine...

**LONG POST ALERT**

After a year of trying and 4 previous attempts (Leaking caliper, clutch failure, slitting my thumb open and a power steering pump failure) I finally got the Clio 182 on a hillclimb!

I booked it on Tuesday but told no-one until yesterday. Mildly superstitious but it seemed to work.

A gentle tootle to the track got some decent MPG

IMG_20230716_095724615.thumb.jpg.92ab222eace59f249ce75b083f4fe083.jpg

I arrived early, and the weather was perfect*

IMG_20230716_095734112_HDR.thumb.jpg.c0841668f6bcd20cc69beceedf935a72.jpg

That Anglia was amazing - an ST170 Lump and some fancy tuning..

IMG_20230716_102422599_HDR.thumb.jpg.0e8d4165f13929a40c3c6c24f50c102f.jpg

The Clio was in some esteemed company - two true sports cars and an Elise!

IMG_20230716_103209818_HDR.thumb.jpg.c174a43ef31de43d060541aefa30f287.jpg

After a safety briefing, I put my helmet on and hung about until the other competitors had made their way down to the start.

My thinking was to not mess up anyone's day on the first run, and take it as a steady sighting run - having never even walked the course.

Here is the first ever run. Traction control cutting in at the start and all!

According to my Racechrono app (no idea how accurate it is at all!) - the first run was a 1.10.93. That set a benchmark for Subsequent runs as it was at least a consistent distance being measured. I wasn't looking at the times on the runs, just using completed runs to see how I was progressing.

Picked up about 10secs over 4 runs. Reckoned that was all the easy stuff out the way😀

Screenshot_20230716-114400.thumb.png.5a77ddfa2f900aef7d71b29e87ba065b.png

I stopped for lunch now and gave the car a check over before going back out.

I was trying to get the confidence in the car and myself, but not be over confident. Later braking/harsher acceleration are where those 10secs have come from. There was more to be had but don't want to take too much!

Changing into first at the mid course hairpin, and being more aggressive on power and braking got an (ALLEGED) 55.1 run as per below.

You can hopefully see how i improved over the course of the day in this side by side video created by @Skizzer (cheers dude!)

Times were coming. I was now at the point where you think too much. I stopped again for a break.

Screenshot_20230716-131649.thumb.png.4bfdd2700fae42ebb5aeabc61663e07e.png

Certainly getting more confident. Decided to quit at 1.45pm after 10runs.

Never pushed a car or myself that hard. Didn't want to overdo it, but that's 15.2secs (according to the app!) shaved off the time from first to fastest.

Hillclimbing is thirsty work!

Properly good fun though thrashing it more each run. It's a properly capable little car.

First up. Driving home on Wednesday evening

IMG_20230802_220546602.thumb.jpg.6a5c8df7d5bd9b524c5604128709b2da.jpg

Stop light and Oil light illuminated. It did this before on the way back from the hillclimb.

It went on and off randomly all the way home. I suspect the pressure switch (changed before the MOT in Dec) is faulty.

I continued to use it🤣

I'll get a sensor purchased and combine fitting with an oil change.

Then the driver's exterior door handle stopped working. The passenger one has been intermittent.

I took the door card off last night, and fixed the adjustment on the bar that operates the lock.

All back together and working well.

Until today.

Then both the drivers and passengers external handles stopped working.

I had to go in via the boot.

Back home...

I rigged up a temporary* repair, tested it all as working. Put everything back together, and the outside door handle has started working again.... Hopefully get it up to Stu this week to see if it can be sorted.
