Ebay Tat Volume 2 - Sadly deceased.

You often see traders putting a stupidly low price on an advert to attract attention and then mentioning in the small print "Real price is...". This poor chap doesn't quite seem to have got the hang of that particular trick...

He hasn't quite got the hang of getting the car in the photo either:

£5K seems a lot for 18 feet of fence.

Oh FFS. Put in a £1200 bid on that DS pickup thing earlier on, just to keep an eye on it - my watch list was full and I couldn't be arsed to go into it and start deleting stuff, so I thought sticking on a below-reserve bid would be easier. Seller has just sent me a second chance offer - now what the fuck do I do? AAARGH - now I'm not going to get any sleep tonight - I'll either be lying awake wondering whether to press the BIN button or lying awake wondering whether I was a twat for pressing the BIN button. Bollocks.

If you have the money and think it's worth it, buy it. Obvs.

Buy it now £1300, best offer (must be yours) £1200. What does he expect? Offer him £1000 for being such an idiot.

That's the problem - I haven't decided if I do think it's worth it or not. :oops::roll:

Do you have £1200?

Can you find another legal, running DS for that money?

Could you break it for that? Or sell it to a restorer?

Yes; no; might be able to make my money back breaking it but don't have the space, and I would imagine if DS restorers were going to be interested at that money they would have put a bid in. The distance is another thing that's worrying me slightly - the seller reckons he's never driven it more than 15 miles, and he's over 200 miles from me.

Wuv - while it's obviously not a decision to be taken lightly, there's no other way I can see to get a road-legal DS for so little cash. A bit of smartening up and a better sales job and (if it actually gets you home) you might do alright. Has some curio attraction for sure.

If it makes you feel better, a mate bought a DS in France. He flew out to pick it up and drive it home and it caught fire. That was several thousand pounds worth. His next one was better. Well, sort of. It needed an engine rebuild...

Not sure if you know, but there's a great DS specialist in Wywondham. Ex Lotus engineer. Knows his onions.

You'll never find another one quite like it; though whether thats a tick in the for or against column is a matter of taste.

If you did go ahead and buy it and MGM decided to make a film of 'World of Sport 1979' starring Steven Segal as Dickie Davis and Kate Winslett as Jenny Pitman, you'd be quids in renting it out as 100% authentic cameraman mobile!

Actually that's not as outlandish as it first appears, with the possible exception of the casting. Twas in the 70s that Red Rum won three Grand Nationals (out of five entered); the only horse in history to do that. Surely to goodness someone must be making a movie of the story? The DS was the camera mount of choice at the time...

So buy it. Now.

£2000 or best offer for this 26000 mile Mk3 looks a bargain to me, Shame it's a slushbox model.

A 1988 3 litre Alfa. Surely motoring won't get any more "eventful" than this. MAJOR WANT

Yup, I've spoken to him before - he offered to fit a replacement (used) engine to my first DS (an otherwise rather lovely RHD Pallas semi-auto in two-tone beige with blue velour interior) for £500. I decided against it and spent the £500 elsewhere - something I've been kicking myself about ever since.

spotted this on autotrader

at 550 it seems like a cheap cortina (although the paint on the front looks suspect)

Hot diggity that Alfa is tempting, even if it does sound like a bodged up nightmare. It is THE best colour combo for a 164. Love the red/grey look (though it sounds like it might be a bit Pogweasel Pink in places!). Happily, I doubt the Rangie will sell before the Alfa does.

If that Saab was a VW he would be beating them off with a shitty stick

Is that a shit covered stick or just a poor quality stick?
