How good does this look!, and before anyone says it, my balls aren't big enough to own a old Citroen CX!

Go for it Trig! I doubt you'll regret it. My CX was a proper shonky old heap and it was still amazing to drive. It rarely let me down either (occasionally refused outright to start but always completed a journey!). If it's a good'un, you won't lose money on it. They're appreciating at the moment - albeit not massively. You'll also qualify to come along to the International Citroen Car Clubs Rally in Yorkshire in the summer. http://icccr2012.org.uk/new/

One word of warning. After ten minutes of driving a CX, you'll hate it due to the odd controls and weird steering. After a few hours, you'll absolutely love it.

I'm another for saying buy a CX - if it is a nice one, apart from the suspension, they're just like every other car - but weirder!

70s French barges are the way to go, and as Ian says, they're on the up! For those that cannot afford a DS, a CX is a pretty pleasant alternative - and that ashtray would encourage anyone to start smoking!

Crikey having had a dig on the web the 130 3200 must be mega rare.

Trig that CX is LUSH, I'd be on it like a shot in your situation. I reckon it's damn good value. Will it fit in the garage though??!

Somebody buy that CX quick before I do. Heart and even wallet say yes, and I could store it with the Dedra, but wife (probably sensibly) says I'm not allowed another car unless I sell something first.

Anybody want to buy a wife?

I have never seen a Tickford with a body quite like that - good spot Trig. I wonder if it IS a real Tickford or a lookalike... pretty cool whatever.

Price?? This one went for £26,000 a couple of months ago.

Description: Apparently it's a normal 80" made into a Tickford look-alike many years ago. There was an article on this vehicle in Land Rover Enthusiast in August 2007.

One for Trigger here just popped up on RR! Forget the HC thing. I much prefer the HB Vivas anyway. Has the 1.6 so won't be sluggish.

Change the tyres for the right sizes, mini wheels always look so wrong on a Viva... it only encourages folks with angle grinders to get involved, which in my mind is a fail straight away.

1600 slant four vivas are in some peoples minds the worst engine possible, super heavy cast iron lump, uneconomical and smallest cc of the slant four range, however to me its a slow revving engine that's never hassled and should last 40 years easy as along as its serviced every 3k, 83bhp standard isn't to bad in my mind.

The engine was rebuilt by one but last owner using spares provided by myself, suspect oil leak is rope seal on back of crank having moved, engine out and strip down job :( stupid design but if fitted correctly shouldn't be an issue.

Would have this myself, but spending dollar on food and beer prevents me hassling present owner.

+1

That CX is utterly lush! 8)

I was lucky enough to won one a few years back and even though it was a bastardised one with a non-turbo Diseasel lump fitted after the Douvrin lump expired it was still one of the most amazing cars I've ever owned. What a properly sorted one with a decent engine must be like I can only guess.

I'd deffo agree about that CX - I had a Pallas in the same colour, and just looking at that pic gives me goosebumps. It's just fooking gorgeous!

I owned one of those Samba Styles. Brilliant on juice, and bloody nippy for a 954cc. Sold it for a profit too..If I had £900, it would be mine.

Posted

Crikey, that Samba has had some money spent on it over its life. By rights it should have been scrapped several times over....

They were rustbuckets. That one clearly has been well loved.

Assuming this isn't a scam you could whang on over to Poland, drive it back, then simply apply some flower stickers to the bodywork and No More Nails a 1970's council flat sink unit in before offering it up for six grand.
