1985 Volkswagen Satana 1.8 LX

I've not seen one of these for years, This one looks tidy but £1490 sounds a bit steep for it.

I thought Santanas were only the GX5 5pot engines. Which RHD markets had them badged Santana other than Japan and HK?

£700 = fair enough for novelty value of a Santana

£90 = bonus for beige

£700 = ebayer blind optimism

I'd be rather tempted by that if I didn't think it would come with an instant divorce thrown in.

All the 4-dr saloons were Santanas in the UK; hatches and estates were Passats.

This is a bit odd - two classified listings for the same car - one at £850 (hmmm), the other at £295 (11 months MOT too - very tempting!!).

First guy claims to be selling it for a friend. Second (trader) appears to be afraid of the car.

I see what you mean, they have 'big car' features (that 504-style front end) imposed on a little car - that must be what it is.

Ha ha, lots of folk mistakenly call their vehicle 'THE BEAST', however that probably would get away with such a name.

My old boss had one of those back in the day, it was the first car I'd driven with PAS. First 90 degree slow turn almost threw me off the crushed suede seats and out the window.

Heres a decent Scorpio with a 2.0 twink, manual gearbox and the early dashboard. I like it! So much so that I have chucked a bid in.

Try not to get over excited with the bidding on this, the DOHC isnt the best unit, underpowered and thirsty, not gr8 for A-framing.

I've always found the DOHC engine to be much more economical than the Pinto and more powerfull......

Posted

I havent much experience of the 2.0 DOHC to be fair, but I imagine it to be for more satisfactory than other Granada Scorpio engine options (pinto or V6 boat anchor)

I had an etstate one a few years ago, it was good on juice 36mpg around town and was more than acceptable power wise, I only scrapped it as it was going to cost too much in parts to justify keeping it on the road, Having tried the 2.9 V6, a better drive but 24mpg at best.... though the same engine in my P100 gave me 32mpg with the original low geared axle

depends what your used to i guess, i found it rather unsatisfactory, well maybe thats a tad harsh, lathargic is the word im looking for, it is thirsty though, thirstyer than the 24v BMW ive got now.

A true shiter would demand a 2.4 v6 in his Scorpio.

Always found all mine (4) to be far from it. More refined than the pinto, bags of torque and silk up to 4500-5000 where the heavy flywheel slows it down. Decent fuel economy as well - 40mpg+ easily achievable on a motorway at a reasonable rate. Mind you, if yours/the one you drove was a carb one then thats a different kettle of fish entirely. No redeeming features. At all.

What about a Peugeot or VM diesel then?

1989 Citroen CX 25 DTR Turbo D

I like the colour of this although the owner is no David Bailey with the camera.

Wow, I've never seen an M reg Carlton before! I thought mine was a late one!

Hey, a thruppeny bit! I was looking for one of them a little while back. I have a mad idea to use the running gear from my LT35 (which is getting frilly) and make a retro recovey. *dashes off to ebay*

bum. 2 grand reserve. Ah well, watch list....
