It's a NSU 'double Lambretta' from 1953. You bought two Lambrettas and added the joining pieces and assorted control cables to make a 'small family car'. It would do 78 km/h and return 3.4 litres per 100 km.

You were thinking of Ken Stott who, as Rebus, drove a Mercedes 190 with an appropriate number plate.

I think he was the better Rebus, but I do love the sound of John Hannah’s voice.

He had a Saab (unspecified) in the books. From the time period and the description either a Classic 900 or a 9000.

In my head John Hannah had the Saab and then Ken Stott had the 190.

Seems Ken also had a Saab.
