This 1961-built Austin A40 (pininfarina design) is precisely the classic most adult Monte fans will applaud and give a thumbs up. Fun on wheels!
The car was found in a barn in Sweden and for a number of years has had the same owner in Norway after a gradual conversion for use in historic rallies. Before it underwent a five-year total renovation by John-Arild Risa after a few years, it completed its first three Rallye Monte-Carlo Historique and took, among other things, a class win at the same Risa with Leif Brennhovd at the cards. In itself a feat which has later been crowned with a further three completed races as newly restored under the direction of owner Ivar Moe with Bjarne Koren at the maps. Not many cars have managed that!! The last two participations were otherwise completely without service and neither with a need for it. The car has been regularly inspected and upgraded at Braathen Bil and is race-ready again after some small fixes at the rear by Monte24.

The car is in very good condition with full rally equipment including roll cage and contemporary Recaro chairs. It is equipped with a lightly trimmed Cooper S engine (67 hp) with a brand new top and new cam for better bottom drag. Furthermore, five-speed Sierra gearbox, Midget rear axle with glue slip differential as well as reinforced brakes and specially built front/ and rear suspension v/BB. In addition, a maximum extended aluminum petrol tank, double petrol pumps, double coils, extra lights and many Minilite rims and tyres. Ready to race!

If you are considering trying your hand at Monte e l, this is a safe and affordable entry ticket. If you want to know more or take a closer look, contact enthusiast Gunnar Anderssen at Drøbak Bil. The car is being sold for half the construction costs with a suggested price of 200,000 and the owner hopes it will find a new, good home and continue to have an active life there.

Very well known to the club and prolific contributors to the magazine. They do a lot of serious rallying including the monte. Top men!

Did my usual search on old diesel Mercedes and something very special has come up for sale here.

1938 Mercedes Benz 260D Pullman Limousin 188,686 pounds. It was registered new in Munich in 1938 and was requisitioned by the German forces and brought to Norway, after the war it was auctioned off like all ex-German vehicles and was bought by a bus company in Troms county in the north of Norway, they used it for passenger transport with probaly a simpler interior until 1954. And it has been completely restored.

@egg don't know if this one is early enough to interest you? But in any case it is a rare survivor here in Norway.

It's very nice to see, thanks, would be L reg in the UK as Nov 93. Alberto Green over pumice interior, one of my favourite combinations. It has the (optional in the UK) 'safety pack' of rear headrests and passenger airbag (but maybe standard in Norway?). I also note heated seats! It must be a fairly early build - because it has the plastic around the petrol/boot release which was deleted early on as cost saver. Anyway, enough geek...

A similar one is for auction soon in the UK

This one is also worth sharing. Text from the ad again roughly translated.

1981 Mazda 929 3700 pounds

Rare car. Now even rarer with burgundy interior and black cherry lacquer. This is my hobby so I have been doing this for many years. Got a lot of good parts for this one in the years I've had it. Now I think I've got it right. And I have other projects waiting.
Drivetrain-wise it's fine, but as these engines are known for, they like to use head gaskets. So not long ago I put on 2 head gaskets so that it can withstand a bit of heat/twisting better. This has helped. But it's still not quite good. As it still uses coolant.
Otherwise, I had to fix 15 2 errors to get it approved by the EU last time. So nothing has been overlooked here. I think the car has now completed 200,000 km. Since the 100,000km figure is missing. As I said, this is a hobby car with the advantages and disadvantages it may entail. Get in touch for a nice car chat

I guess this is not good?

@RoverFolkUs You might be the right one to ask, are 2 head gaskets a thing?

No, not good.

Yes it is a thing, but it's exceptionally rarely done, and a bit of a stupid idea. It's not going to last either

Lower compression ratio for a start, because the head is going to be mounted further away from the block by a fairly significant amount in the grand scheme of engine tolerances

If there's an underlying problem causing HGF, that just needs to be solved. Adding another head gasket is just a stupid bodge, which sounds like it hasn't worked anyway!

Thanks and it was what I thought but nice to have it confirmed.

There is something strange about the last generation Opel Ascona in Norway, these have survived in unusually large numbers.

I've mentioned this before and it never ceases to amaze me. Now it's winter so few old cars for sale but these 2 are for sale.
