It needs 500 seatbelts, all installed inside the exhaust back box.

Driver's seat and passenger side rear seat need belts. Removing the front seat promotes the back seat to "front"....

ps, I had to ring VOSA tech for a ruling on that one...

Sod, beat me to it.

Technically if you class V a double deck bus (with no seat belts fitted originally) you must have a seatbelt fitted to the drivers seat and the top deck front seats too. Nobody upholds that ruling though as common sense applies. (Me did VOSA course too :D )

So it wouldn't pass, seeing as they don't have rear belts fitted as standard..

Fitted 2nd hand boot struts to the Xantia today. Got fed up of heavy tail gate twatting me on the head. So it is now fixed although managed to twat me one last time.

Stripped rear boot down to find out what is up with the central locking at the back. Looks like someone has tried to play with it before hence the rear boot being soaking wet. The lock barrel is different to the keys I have got and it looks like Solenoid is kaupt. Ordered new one on Ebay.

Dropped Tools off to Metrobi and saw his fancy buses and bargain Saab :)

Didn't get anything done today. Not sure if I should take a chance of giving it a service and hoping that will cure the misfire, or take it to a garage for them to investigate in case it turns out to be the coil or something similar

Clearly he has a sense of humour. I've made a mental note to return to the same establishment next year.

oooooooooooo where is this place? Sounds interesting  . Its not near Kate Middletons favourite Waitrose is it? I've heard things about the garage behind there too.

Nope, College Motors in Bangor - nowhere near me, but walking distance from where I work. I only discovered my 'local' garage 2 days ago, and need to get some info about it before I go there, as it looks frankly terrifying (as only village garages can  )

I've been in the garage tonight doing a bit of fettling of this Cavalier.

Thought I'd sorted the alarm by cutting the feed to the horn. All fine for a few days but now of course it's just started going off all the time. Doesn't immobilise the car, it just sets the horn off. So for now I've just taken the horn fuse and will have another look on Saturday.

Is it a Ford? Try unlocking it with the passenger door keyhole instead of the driver's door. The microswitches are made of cheese.

Hope you do some sort of thread about that Cav' bollz, be good to read about your skills.

Breaking Autoshite 24 News :

Trigger kills wife with egg and pickled onions farts, i quote "Stinky !"

On a serious note, i've decided to go crazy with the Fiesta and re-do most of my work, as i want it done to a better standard

- Yep that means more money and time being put into it, but it also means then i'll be 100% happy with it.

Things we do for metal things we call "cars" 'ey ?

It's true you know, I really do smell like something died up my arse.

On the plus side though the chili flavored pickled onions i made last month taste fantastic, Birds eye chili's FTW!

After months of procrastination I bought and fitted a new MAF.

Instant transformation.

The old one was corroded, the air filter soaked and the airbox full of crap.

Only three months since it was all cleaned out and a new filter put in although the old one was really OK.

So the rough running - no power etc was all my own fault. Didn't replace the engine undertray with the effect that a few days later while doing a fair few miles an hour there was a big bang and clouds of black stuff in the rear view mirror - the wheel arch liner.

From the airbox is a 'snorkel' thingy that descends into the wheel arch, behind the liner. Now it just sucks water and crap up.

Some problems noted yesterday while chugging around in snow and slush looking at cars for #1 daughter (bought a 'W' reg Civic that pleases her greatly)

Must sort the wheel arch soonest :(

I did note though that (While the undertray and arch liner were intact) that the filter housing was full of leaves and gravel, also there is a kind of horn, or well, descends from it parallel to the snorkely bit that was full of water. Didn't care for the look of that so drilled a 1mm hole in the side of it close to the bottom to drain any water.

Some modification of the snorkel may be called for.

Its what you do Bol. Coming to the rescue of varied crocks and posting the results for our pleasure.

In other news, the Sierra is finally gone. Started no probs having stood outside for 3 months in all the crap weather and gurgled contently onto the lads transporter. Its going to be broken up for spares, he has a twin turbo 2.9 XR & his friend has a 4x4 GLS they need parts for.

Removed TSW alloys, put the E36 ones I got from El Bluejeans. Looks a billion times better.

Tightened wheelnuts. Drove a mile. Steering wobbling like buggery, tightened wheelnuts again, could get each one a good turn and a bit. Drove 5 miles. Had to tighten them again but not as much, just tweaked them up. Doesn't seem right to me, maybe I've got the wrong profile nuts? They're not original BMW ones, they're nasty splined ones.

Had a recall letter today from Nissan for my wife's Micra, Something to do with a relay that can cause the car to stall and not restart, Seeing that the car is 6 years old i was quite surprised to received the letter, I've booked it in next week to be fixed.

In other news my Bora gone off to my tamed mechanic today for it's mot and other odd jobs that need doing.

BX thermostat housing is leaking. That'll teach me for not putting any instant gasket on the new gasket.

2CV still awaiting salvation.

Spent the whole morning farting about trying to get the Cambridge's (Morris Minor) heater working again. Eventually traced the problem to a dodgy switch and a bad connection at a scotchlock on the feed wire, but only after we'd fitted a replacement, scruffy heater, just for that to have the same symptoms. The original is back in now, and I took the opportunity to change the antifreeze while the system was drained down.

We also welded the rear exhaust clamp, which I sheared on a speed bump just before Christmas. It solved the rattling exhuast for all of five minutes before it started up again. Hmmm

Good to see the Cavalier having some work done on it.

I started/drove my car for the first time since November, it's not shite but I'm glad it still worked..

Please tell me it's W-suffix (1980-81) not W-prefix (2000)....

I believe the liability for recalls lies with the manufacturer for 15 years. I did read a thread somewhere about a chap having the heater matrix replaced on a Mk2 Golf (recall due to risk of a coolant-leg issue - it's a dashboard out, all day job) at about 12 years old. The car was worth probably two monthly repayments on a new car, and you know how much a day's work at dealer rates costs.....

Scotchlocks are the devil!!

Bin the lot and your car will become about 100% more reliable instantly!

Unfortunately not, it is a 2000.
