Mine was Gonzo from the Muppets for a while, but I provoked a few flounces on a certain other forum where people didn't realise that Ok, I take the piss a bit, but I'll only take the piss out of something if I've driven one myself and have a valid point. I never get personal, and I will point out a cars good points if I can think of any *.

Anyway, I received a PM from an irate forum member calling me an 'orrible **** and calling me for all sorts. So I changed my avatar to Brick Top, and figured as I'm on a lot of forums, I'd change it to that on all of 'em. (Something I've still not got round to doing).

I bodged my avatar pic together myself using 'paint'. It was a photo of the badge on a beige Fiat Panda, as I am rather fond of them, having owned 3.

Everyone loves a heroic, underdeveloped British idea whose worth is later proved by a foreign company with enough money to complete the project and see it into profitable production!

Same here! Hence, the Hawker-Siddeley Trident. The first trijet, it was hamstrung by puny engines and Boeing soon cleaned up with their near-identical 727.

Unlucky Alf from the Fast show.

I thought it was apt, as most shite I buy tends to blow up spectacularly within a week, or is a spares/repairs type buy that look simple to fix but turns out to be utterly fubar.

I can't remember many of the avatars I've had, the last one was Beavis and Butthead hur hur hur.

Mine's of the APT P passenger train. Everyone loves a heroic, underdeveloped British idea whose worth is later proved by a foreign company with enough money to complete the project and see it into profitable production! See the Italian built FIAT Pendolino as evidence of this.I have a Hornby model of the APT P that actually tips round bends. One of them (370 002 I think) is at the Railway Age in Crewe. You can see it from the Tesco car park. I used to work really near there on the Gresty Road. Here's a massive 14 carriage \ 5 car set in action. So about £600's worth at today's prices.

The gas turbine powered APT P was at the NRM in York for ages. The bodywork has been cleaned up and resprayed, and it's now at NRM Shildon. From the looks of the film below, it doesn't look like much mechanical work has been done, and it's doubtful whether it will run under its own power again. Would you trust a pair of Leyland gas turbines to run reliably after 38 years? Extra shite points I feel.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lz2RcJjbmE0
IIRC there's an APT still at Crewe station ?

Giuseppe Busso, Alfa's chief engineer from the late '40s to the '70s. He's mainly remembered for the Alfa V6, but was also responsible for Alfa's mechanical heritage - the classic 1954-95 twin-cam, light-alloy gearbox casings, forged or cast suspension arms, the Alfetta's rear-mounted transaxle. Everything except the Alfasud, in fact.

bugger. That obviously didn't work.

Make sure the picture you're trying to upload is small 100x100 or whatever it asks and that the file size is small.

Mine is er . . a picture my Cortina! Recently changed from the tesco value avatar id been using for yonks.

On the subject of the APT . . . They are awesome. Pete Waterman owns the one at Crewe but seems to have no plans to get the thing running which is a real shame.

Its a story of snatching defeat from the jaws of victory that British Leyland would be proud of.

The death knell was when they did a big press launch and invited journos onboard the APT for a high speed run down the West Coast line. In order to make sure they gave the train a good write up, BR plied the writers with lots of food and free booze. Several free pints later the journos complained the tilting was making them feel sick. Funny that!

By the time the project was cancelled the reliability issues etc had been sorted out and it was basically ready to go, but as there had been so much bad press they decided to scrap it instead. A crying shame!

Theres a good video about it on youtube:

Guess mine is pretty much self explanatory;I have the dubious honour of being a vehicle immobiliser, but you could probably work that out from my username  Should point out that I'm not a demanding money with menaces psychopath with voices in the head syndrome, (that cleared up months ago) and don't work for a clamping company as such I work for a large institution with 6000 staff and 1100 car parking spaces so problems often arise, tbh I hate clamping anyone but, got to earn a living somehow  Sorry to rattle on a bit but I've just realized I've never really introduced myself on here so thought I'd put that right. ps, the clamp on the avatar is a dutch rimlock type, one of only three wheelclamps that can be legally used in England and Wales, the other two being the Hanson safety clamp and the London Triangle............Ok will get my coat now!
