Panda 4x4 action in the snow

Well. Seeing as Autoshite was down and me having a day off, I thought what can I do??

So I decided to go into town and tax the Sisley, so that I could then have a good old razz about in it in what snow we have round here.

I had to unwrap it and then jumpstart it, so I took it for a run on the main roads to charge the battery. I then went for a run round the single track backroads round our way.

Who should I meet coming the other way, but my mate in his new (to him)Mini 1275GT doing exactly the same thing as me... so we stopped and had a natter and I took a few pics...

My mate had just come up the hill I was going to go down. He had a set of Mud & Snow tyres on the front so handled great.

Note the handy rear wiper set up installed by the original owner.

Bye...

I then came off the Tops and went back down into the village.

The tracks on the hill are from the Mini

I then went down what's known as the Carrs, and had a razz down the tractor tracks alongside the fields....

I'm sorry for the picture overload but it was the first time I'd used the 4x4 system as it was meant to be used.

I was surprised how well it coped with the fresh untouched snow as it would happily push through it at 40mph. It doesn't have M&S tyres on it either, just Pirelli P3000. I do have a spare set of rims that came with the car so I will probably get some winter tyres when demand has died down.

I'm sure it will be even more well WEAPON with the correct rubber on.

All in all it was brilliant and I had a big grin on my face 8)

I love this car.

8) Looks a pretty good way to spend a day off!Thats a nice looking Panda you have there too.

I can tell you, the old Panda 4x4 is one of the best cars in winter ever made, except the old 3-cylinder-Justy. Those cars with studded tires go everywhere in winter, once a local Panda 4x4 owner drove up a ski-slope without problems. 8)

Good one! I used to think Pandas were rubbish 10-15 years ago, now I love 'em!

Great photos. I love little 4x4s. Hopefully I'll pick up a Panda 4x4 before they're all out of my shitey price range.

Brilliant photos, love the twin wiper conversion on the Mini 8)

Excellent stuff. The snow around here has pretty much reduced the traffic by 90% and the majority of those driving are single men in SWB Land Rovers with winches and roof exhausts. I think I'd rather have a panda to tear around in - those Land Rovers still have those 'Lindsey' out the Fast show connotations for me. If we had snow for say at least 3 months, as opposed to 3 days a year I'd seriously consider getting either a original or new panda 4x4.

reallyloud, they're not exhausts, they're intake snorkels, for the 6 foot deep water at Sainsbury's.....Drivers of "real" Land Rovers are recogniseable by the freezing appearance, and the vehicles by the lack of bolt-on crap and gayplate.Mine's hetero! 95% as it left the factory 39 years ago.

Nice! But I like the J reg Clubman more

Thanks for all your comments. The Clubman is well good. My mate took me out in it before Christmas :D . I love it because it's solid but scruffy. Colour is original and so is the purple 1275GT stripe down the bottom, never been restored or worked on and still has 'improvements' on it like said rear wipers and a towbar fitted by owner No.1. It's got proper history which I love in a car. 8)8)

The Sisleys look well good with their off-white steels and metallic colours.

Driving on the tractor tracks gets annoying ofter a while - the whole car buzzes and rattles.

I can tell you, the old Panda 4x4 is one of the best cars in winter ever made, except the old 3-cylinder-Justy.

Having owned both, I'd say the Panda ROOLZ in the snow due to that bit extra ground clearance.

(I've had Minis, too. They're not so clever. But not too bad considering. They're light, so when the snow's not too deep, the smooth underbelly slides over it like a sledge. GR8 FUN)

FlaMINIa

The list lengthens:

1. Flaminia

2. SL-spec Camry

3. Vin's mate's Clubman

Thanks for sharing, Vin!

Great pictures. :D The roads/snow make me wish I lived there and still owned my old Renault R10. I had lots of fun in the snow with that car

Yep. A chap I know in Leeds swore by these for hill traversing in the winter, nothing could touch it. Don't really know hy he went on to other stuff really, probably rotted away....
