So, it was MOT time for mine today

To be honest, this wasn't the kind of nail biting afternoon I've had with many previous cars because in the past few weeks I've thrown a shed-load of cash at the thing. That includes new cam belt etc (obviously not an MOT issue but, on a KV6, an expression of commitment second only to slipping a diamond engagement ring onto its exhaust pipe. While it was having its indulgent spa weekend at my local MG Rover specialist, I also had the rear coil springs replaced - something that amidst all the waftiness I hadn't noticed needed doing - and the exceedingly rusty centre and rear exhaust sections changed as well.

The water ingress that I was experiencing earlier in the year seems to have been solved by clearing the drain plugs and fitting new seals on the rear lamps but unfortunately it turns out that hosting Lake Windermere under the drivers seat for several weeks buggered up a sensor, causing the SRS light to come on - so a new one of those had to be purchased at an eyewatering cost of £131.21p.

Like @Split_Pin I've got a clunking top mount but I was advised this was ok to leave for now unless the noise was bothering me.

So that left me with it just needing a new wiper blade and a couple of tyres to get through the test. Thought I'd support British manufacturing and go for Avons.

That's that lesson learned.

But, anyway all legal and ready to serve my long journey needs for another year.

Good news and glad to see you are using it. Do you have a sunroof?

Am I mental?

Well I think those who know of my chod addiction, the answer is YES.

So I was perusing FB last night.

Local R75 white gold, auto estate, Connie SE for sale. 700 quid. Damaged bonnet and driver side wing.

About to move to next add, when I spy it has Serpents :)

I really like them and Audrey would look good rolling around on them.

Checked MOT history. Pretty decent. Probably looked after. 164k on clock.

So I've messaged the seller. Dont tell the wife.

Anyone want a slightly beat up R75 tourer with Crown alloys lol

Changing a bonnet and wing is probably within my HBOL 3 spanner rating ability. I could even manage to improve it.

Let's see if he messages back.

Is it a diesel one?

It's the CD sat nav box in the boot that's fucked. If I can't simply bob in a BMW equivalent, I'll just leave it non-functioning. I never used the thing and just switch off the screen anyway. - Ta for info tho'

As previously mentioned, I still have the original CD box off mine - I've never actually seen it work, but you're welcome to it if you want to try it?

He will.   With that damage it's worth about 300 quid.

Don't worry. I will.

Can't really tell Mrs Cookie I'm buying some alloys and when she drops me off, I say 'oh, I get a free car with them' :)

I was gonna offer 500 and walk if he said no. Clearly I'm soft in the head as I never thought of going that low.

He has messaged back. Just need to make sure Mrs C won't be too unhappy with me buying more alloys. She is already expressing mild dissatisfaction that the large pile of wheels on the patio are stopping her from using her swing bench :)

Will be very dissatisfied when a car turns up still attached to the alloys lol

Just ruling it out for the cause of the wet carpet but on re reading your comment I see you have sealed the rear lamps.

Mines just gone, hope it makes it up to Newcastle.

Unlikely I'll have another. You can't be that lucky twice.

Cartakeback £250 mate (he'll have checked)

Give you £300,  he says £500, you say £400 and buy it.

I've seen it on American Pickers.

Viewing booked for 4pm tomorrow.

Seller keen to call me to tell me all about his car. Doesn't sound like he really wants to sell it.

Don't think I will be getting it mega cheap.

Good evening all! I noticed some talk of Water Ingress. On my one, the Stainless Steel Trims on the rear wings had started to leak around their fixings.

Might be a good place to look; also the Seam Sealant around the wing to the pressing below the Rear Window can leak too. Open the boot and check the corners... 👍 👍 👍 😎 😎 😎

Unless its £300 I'd walk away. The least a cheap 75 can be is intact, moreso because you already have a nice one on fleet. I'd suggest it would be firmly in the use and dispose category.

I'm aiming for 500 or less. As you can see, bonnet and wing is minor damage. Common colour, so should be able to get both panels for less than a ton.

Can then punt it on, with crown alloys from Audrey.

More than 500 and I don't think its worth the hassle.

Looks neglected. I think the bonnet has rotted through in the usual place.

You don't need me to tell you to check absolutely  everything else on it to make sure its fit to punt on once you've swapped the wheels over.

Does the white one have chrome mirror caps? Perhaps swap those too, I really like them.

Good stuff, I thought it might, being a personal line.

Looking forward to see how things go!

Car inspected, thanks to @andyberg who gave me a lift.

Not what I was hoping for. Alloys need a refurb and two tyres. Besides the damage mentioned, it was in very tired condition.

Perfect for a banger run around, but not for my plans.

Genuine seller but I didn't make an offer.

Feel happy, so must have made the right call.

I thought you exercised good self control 😂

I agree, if I was after a runabout then it would be OK, a cheap way into 75 ownership. But I think Audrey will be a much better car.

Have a good holiday mate and don't come back with any new cars!

Own up, who is a R75 licker?

Heres mine. New to me, ex @montytom and @Tubbo.

Project, needs work. Currently at specialist in Bristol, to try to get her through MOT.

I calculate that it takes 55ml of liquid to raise the coolant level from barely being able to read 'min' through it, to having 'max' just covered.

Saw this very nice one in Linlithgow today.

More nice ones like this seem to be owned by enthusiasts now than not, however nobody owned up to owning this when I posted it up on the Scotland MGRover page.
