AS communal Rover 75 / MG ZT lickers thread

Unfortunately, they are, or have, reached that age where they ae worth very little. For us it is great as we can pick up a very nice working vehicle for not too much cash. I do see some cars up on ebay/facebook for serious money, and yes perhaps for the very best it is warranted, but for the rest, £1250-£2000 seems about it for a cherished, low mileage example with a full MoT. These are lovely cars. They ride beautifully. The diesels are reasonably good on fuel, but the V6, on full chat, well, let me tell you, it will make the hairs stand up on the back of your neck and give you goose bumps! Lovely. My V6, unfortunately succumbed to the dreaded tin worm. Hopefully my tourer will fare better.

I think my ZTT's battery is flat. Haven't used it since November, and now it won't unlock from either keyfob (though the light flashes on the fobs). On anything older/less advanced I'd just unlock it manually and connect a charger in situ and leave it for 12 hours or so - but I seem to recall reading something about 75's with flat batteries needing some special approach - anyone point me in the right direction? TIA.

Just scored a pair of rear lights for the Tourer for 45 quid delivered.  Which when you think about it is quite a lot for two lumps of secondhand plastic, but then again they are pretty much unobtainium.  Plus I could probably get some of my money back by flogging the nearside unit as I only need the offside one.  (Although if I do that I'm guaranteed to break the nearside shortly thereafter.)

The crash sensor beneath my passenger seat has failed because of water ingress. I've had the scuttle cover off and the plenum chambers are as dry as an absolutely bone dry thing. Does anyone have any idea where I should look next?

Rear light cluster gaskets. The water tracks through the boot, under the rear seat and in to the footwells if left long enough. Also check water isn't making it over the door seals at sill level.

Well I would never have thought of beginning my search there!

Many thanks.

Might as well add my ZT to this thread for posterity. I was only planning on keeping it for a while but am now leaning towards keeping it longer and improving it a bit. MOT is due September so that will be crunch time but hopefully it will pass another without too much effort or expense.

This is definitely one to start with.  From memory, particularly the nearside one.  It's worth fetching off the interior stuff around there because it can get quite wet.

No, but it's a tourer if that makes any difference. And I'd forgotten, but a couple of years ago the sat nav cd box failed when it too,  filled with water.

The old English white / aubergine R75 I sold to HMC many moons ago, has surfaced in Swansea, on Ebay.

Seems my sat nav DVD drive is on its way out - it still spins up but it won't read the disc and it also won't eject it.  I think that's got damp too.  I'm in two minds whether to buy another DVD drive (and probably a disc too ) or whether it's time to go the Android route.

Think it needs a bit too much.

I sank nearly 2k into that car last time.

Don't want a repeat

Two things making me hesitate: the quality of Android head units seems to be rather variable (I've been less than impressed with the one I fitted to the Merc), and I'd have to fit an aftermarket GPS antenna to the dash (either that or run a cable under the carpet all the way down the car from the DVD unit in the boot to the head unit in the dash, which I really can't be arsed with).

Don't get an Enon. Shit touch screen and in the case of my E46, drained the battery.

My 'custom install/stick player' DEFFO won't flatten the battery when unattended...
