Being a Scouser I have to say you lot seem to have all managed to find the shittiest bits of Liverpool.I can think of a lot worse places to be. London is my least favourite place on earth, followed closely by Manchester. All cities have issues, a dead rat in a field could happen anywhere. As for the scally with the traffic cone.... at least he added a bit of comedy style. I'd have just twatted him.

I've gome mates who were originally from Liverpool , so have been up there with them & had a few really good nights out.I also like Manchester, thats a good night out as well.My Dad grew up in Middlesbrough & I used to have a season ticket for the footy up there, now thats a real shithole.

Whilst Liverpool is a shithole, Cumbernauld is far worse, a "new Town" that was built in the middle of nowhere and became a dumping ground for Glasgows unwanted scum...............after they filled up the Towns in the Borders  its a disgusting place, dirty, full off unwashed and non working scum that have floated to the top of the cess pit of life....dont ever go there unless you have have a terminal illness and want to commit suicide legally.

I went to Cumbernauld a couple of years ago to see just how bad the shopping centre was, I quite liked it.
well I'm genuinely pleased it wasn't too bad for you.....I was last there in July this year and its still a hole of a place, but they do seem to be rebuilding it.............personally I'd blow the place of the fucking map :)

I found the Boro' to be ok when I lived there...as was Manchester, I also had some good nights out in Liverpool........but I wouldn't want to live there. And as for London I find it quite nice to be in, but there are some fucking sink hole areas there as well.the only place I have ever felt uncomfortable walking the streets in was Dover.........ok in daylight but not at all happy at night.

When I was in the Pool last year I stayed in a B&B on Sefton Park and it was brilliant. :) I set off for a bite to eat on a sort of boho street and that was GR9 too. :D Started walking towards the centre and went to ask for directions in a petrol garage and a geezer in the queue chipped in and gave me a ride in. :D:D All in all a grand night out, except for the Cavern itself, where, incidentally, the beer is poisonous.

If you were in Sefton Park then that little boho street will have been the legendary Lark Lane. I spend about 80% of my spare time around there. Going there in about 10 mins, as it happens. The Cavern is just there for tourists. Locals will only go if there's a very special band on. Rest of the time it's just students trying to be cool.

Ah, the memories!! Had a girlfriend at Liverpool Uni back in the '70s, had some great times in Seffy Park!! She lived in a student house in Toxteth, which was..... er....... interesting!! Had my Cortina nicked from outside it on my 1st visit!!!

Ah, luckily we had to bring our own beer...

Christmas songs. Just, AAAAARGH!!!!! They make me stabby! Especially when they're fuggin everywhere in NOVEMBER. When did become 12 weeks of Christmas?!I'm sick of it all already and we're still more than a month away from the over-commercialised bloody mess. I do actually like Christmas - but only for a few days each year. ie how it is meant to be.

Posted

Christmas songs. Yes. Stabby. I felt a bit of rage as I was being dragged around Manchester yesterday after repeatedly hearing the same songs over and over and over again. I mean FFS is it really necessary.Liverpool. There really are some horrible bits but then a lot of areas are bad in different ways (I wouldn't be particularly keen to walk around my hometown of Burnley at night either) And same as any city there are also some pretty nice areas too. The thing with Liverpool though, is that is really feels like it is somewhere significant. Manchester is ok, same with Birmingham but Liverpool feels somehow to have more of a sense of history, not really sure how to describe it though... The biggest problem I have with Liverpool though is that I have to work there. And it's a very fucking long way from my house.

I quite like Dover but know what you mean about walking around at night. I don't know if its because its a place that a lot of people are just passing through on the way to somewhere better. A lot of port towns do feel a bit uncomfortable at night though.

Those chuffin buggys the wrinklys drive around in. All over the bloody pavement thinking they own it.Tonight, however, takes the biscuit. Coming how from Tesco wondering why there was a huge queue of traffic further up the road coming towards when what do I spy. An old duffer coming down the middle of the road with full rain cover and no lights! They also seem to becoming increasingly popular with the lardy arse mouth breathers with 400 kids and no job too!I actually know someone quite well who is on incapacity benefit and can't work apparently who wants one of these to go to the pub on as he doesn't want to drink and drive in his brand new mobolity car! I have actually told him face to face to lose 10+ stone and he will be able to walk.

Hmmm, seeing as were talking of what places are nice and those that arent, ill contribute.London isnt too bad, obviously i am slightly prejudiced as im from London originally, but Ive walked around there at night and day, and never been hassled. But if you go looking for trouble, there is plenty there.I havent yet been to liverpool, but I have been to Manchester, and its not too bad, although i didnt see much of it other than the centre.I went to Leeds for a weekend earlier in the summer, and I must say, not a bad place at all really. Walked by myself a good mile and a half from a gig venue to a hotel and didnt get any hassle from anyone, and it was half 11 on a saturday night. Id happily go back there.Round here, well Basingstoke isnt too bad, some areas are slightly dodgy come night time, hence why ive gone tat spotting early in the morning to avoid all the scum. But for the most part, its not too bad. Hook is far worse. The two places i dont reccommend to anyone are Dunstable and Ramsgate.Dunstable is so neglected its unbelievable, if you were to walk round there at weekend nights i can assure you someone will give you hassle, most of 'da yoof' are drinking beyond their capacity and are always in massive groups. Bad spots are the park near ASDA and the residential streets near the fire station.Ramsgate has such an uneasy atmosphere, I hated it. The only other place ive ever felt so uneasy walking around is Peckham, thats one place to also avoid.

Hey, everywhere has it's not so nice places. I've been to bits of Manchester which were EXTREMELY dodgy (including Hulme where my sis lived many moons back) and some parts of Chester are not exactly known for the ambience.Today's rant: Me! Yes, it was a tried and tested money saving routine and the cunningness in hiding my hip flask was pretty damned clever.Emptying it's rather lovely vodka contents into my pints of lager later in to the night was, erm, slightly less clever :(

A lot of them come to rent cars from us, hence the reason we have a big OMG POLICE LINKED PANIC SYSTEM which gets used surprisingly often (last was about a month ago when some bag head started throwing traffic cones at the girl on the counter when she refused to hire to him).

How much do I miss working in car rental? Not a lot.And on the subject of shitholes, why has no-one mentioned Sheffield?I know it's a long while ago, but I had a short stint as a student there in 1989. It was dirty, the people were miserable and I lived in a complete arse of an area. Makes me shiver whenever I have to go back.

Really?? I thought Hook was a bit posh and where would 'da yoof' hang out? There is only a corner shop and some car sales places there!
Posted

You would have thought Hook was nice from the look of it, but not so much in reality.Massive underage drinking problem there. Some guy who caused a car accident a few years ago was killed this year, and last year a police car got destroyed(broken into, smashed up and pushed down a hill) by some chavs for no reason.Alot of fights there. Theres a very big 'chav' crowd in Hook, mainly 15-22 year olds and they cause hell. They hang out round the few parks there are, outside tesco, in the bus shelters and by the shops.

Whereabouts in Sheffield did you live Sporty? Living 15miles from Sheff, it was the nearest big place for me as a teenager so I know the place quite well.

I’m a regular visitor to both Liverpool (got back 50 minutes ago) and Manchester and yes they have their dodgy parts I’ll grant you. BUT I’d choose either of them over parochial small town attitude any day. The only City I’ve genuinely felt uncomfortable walking around at night is Birmingham and that’s probably because I hardly know it.It can and does kick off anywhere. Years ago me and a few mates walked into a small quaint looking pub in Ludlow and had a bar stool thrown at us. Simply because we were [conventional looking] outsiders. Accidentally make eye contact with someone in Hanley (Stoke-on-Trent) on a Saturday night and you genuinely run the gauntlet.Oh and Pog have you had the occasion to visit chav central (Reading)? Ah bugger, I seem to have defeated my own poorly constructed argument with a sweeping generalization

I've never had any hassle in Liverpool, but many years ago I was attacked by some lunatic in Congleton with a machete. Luckily he was just waving it in my direction generally and didn't manage to hit me before I hit him. He didn't seem to like Scousers, I doubt I improved matters in his tiny little mind.My brother lived in Sheffield moons ago, High Storrs I think it was. Nice place. I go to Sheffield sometimes (I bought the Audi from a trader there), never had a moment of worry.Hulme in Manchester used to be rather lively, but other bits aren't bad at all (You don't often hear that from a Scouser). If Wigan counts as Manchester (I class it as Lancashite, but it's officially Gtr Mancland) then Wigan is one of my favourite places in the UK. Weirdly enough.London.. Mate of mine lived in Haringay and on the few occasions I'd visit him I was pretty bloody nervous around there. My car got screwed there, twice, and being a Scouser there's never anything left in my cars for anyone to rob anyway - better safe than sorry.Leeds.- Never had a problem.Newmarket - seen some very lively brawls there between the horse people. That place has more kick offs than Mathew St..Dagenham - Oh dearie me.

I grew up near Dagenham and still live quite near it. Agree is a sh*thole (we locals refer to it as 'Nam). However I would take Dagenham over Skelmersdale any day of the week. Skem was a sad place to visit, as I understand the government at the time built this place and encouraged Liverpool folk to move there on the premise that new technology firms would set up shop nearby providing work. But they never came leaving these folk in a new town with nothing miles from home. No prizes for guessing its a depressing place. Dagenham on the other hand is on the District Line and loads of buses so you are never much more than 15 minutes from somewhere much much better......

Sheffield's not such a bad place, as cities go. I was born and raised in Leeds, but after graduating I lived in north Yorkshire for 20 odd years. Moved to Sheffield about 5 years ago, with much trepidation, but I've ben pleasantly surprised. It's got it's rough areas, like pretty much any city, but the center's quite impressive, the people are friendly (most of them anyway!) there are lots of green places, and you're only a few miles from the Peak District.

You lot are mental, anything north of Lewes is bloody Moss Side as far as i'm concerned. actually saying that, Lewes is full of nutters too. Fuck it, I'm never leaving Brighton again.Edit: might i add, the bloody weather. obvious but infuriating.

You are making me think I might stay here where it's reasonably peaceful :o

I get frustrated with other cities because, well, they're just not big enough. I f I were ever to go and live somewhere else I'd prefer to end up in a small town than one of the other "big" cities in the UK.

I'm surprised that nobody has slated Coventry yet, miserable bloody place that is. I lived there for 3 years while I was at uni, and it was rough as foook. Shitest city centre I think I've ever seen surrounded by that god-awful abomination of a ring-road all hemmed in by miles of rough streets. I lived near the old football ground in my 3rd year, on a street with houses with boarded up windows and a burnt out car down the street. It was fun watching the local scrotes rag around in the cars they'd nicked though. One of my neighbours threatened someone with a scaffolding pole in the street too. When I went back for my second year someone had abandoned a Honda Accord outside our house (it was an '82 I think), looked in good nick apart from all the glass being smashed and the roof having been jumped on. That really gets my goat, pointless vandalism and the fact that nobody stops the little gits from doing it in broad daylight. Mind you, if there's 7 of them and one of you it's a different story.

Ramsgate

Thing is, I actually quite like Ramsgate. Yes it's a bit of a faded sort of place and the town centre is a bit grim. But me and Mrs L had a few days in Kent in September and spent a nice few hours in Ramsgate. Nice sunny day, had a walk on the breakwater then sat and had a drink in a bar by the harbour. T'was most agreeable.Actually, I rather like most of East Kent - Ramsgate, Dover, Deal, Sandwich. I'd happily live their tbh. Now, if you want a town that really is one of the last places you would ever want to go for any reason at all, I nominate Nelson, Lancashire. Grim.

most seaside towns in the winter are bloody depressing, Morecombe and Weymouth spring to mind............
