I personally like that Volvo 4392479% more than I could ever like any Triumph. Well done.

I just caught a fucking great spider crawling up the wall. I sprayed it with insecticide, which made it jump down from the wall - to give you an idea of the size of the fucker, I heard the thump when it hit the floor, over the noise of the computer. It's now run off and hid somewhere, I have no idea where. I hope insecticide also works as arachnicide - I really do not like big spiders.

In many ways I wish I'd stripped my Metro when I found myself staring into the sill back in 2004 rather than welding it up (I'd already welded some of the front); I could have used it as a donor for a far better bodyshell that had been engine-raped, so I understand about the Triumph.

I suppose the selling to breaking value ratio might not have been so big if it hadn't been painted all over with Hammerite though.

Why would that be? The paintwork under the black was shit anyway, so the colour is neither here nor there. These cars just aren't worth much, especially ones needing hidden bodges digging out and starting again. Not to mention the front wings aren't cheap, front valances don't exist anymore, then your looking at 2 rear arches, and inner sills. No one would give anymore that about £300- £400 maybe. Even so, I would be stuck with a car up for sale with the potential of no sale, so breaking it was the only choice for me sadly.

I wholeheartedly approve of more 740s on here.

I just wish all of them didn't look "better" than mine. Boo, hiss, etc.

Guy came over and welded the other sill on the Yugo. Great!

So why is this in the grump thread?

He bloody set fire to the interior and buggered off without saying anything!!

I*'ve broken moto-scat.com Oops.

It actually wasn't my fault at all, just so happens that the guy who hosts it (who's working* in the same room as me today at work) upgraded some php stuff, while I was backing up some php stuff to make sure moto-scat wouldn't be at risk if this kind of thing happened. And of course neither of us knew the other was dicking about.

For anyone who needs it to live, it will be back in a bit. We're just workign on getting it back how it was a couple of hours ago.

I've also broken my phone this afternoon byt upgrading that. I'm going to not upgrade anything else today.

Bloody hell NC. That's bad luck indeed. Fancy not mentioning that he'd very nearly incinerated your car!

Welding makes this all to real a risk, as this chap on the Nissan 4x4 forum discovered to his cost...

Seat belts are the thing to watch for when welding. You can have the interior out the car but forget about the seat belt, which burns right up to the headling in no time. I'm completely paranoid about it

It's bad your yugo went on fire but lucky the fire stopped when it did or it would have been toast.

I've upgraded your car to one that starts. I'll find out tomorrow if it drives - I'll try not to crash it.

That's harsh NC, can you even get replace door trim and seats? My dad lost his old Triumph 2000 the same way, sadly the guy who welded it also lost his garage and car lot in the same incident.

Posted

My Dad was a fireman and on his first week of service he put out a fire in a garage started by a bloke welding up an old car in which he totalled the car and the garage. Fast forward 25 years and my Dad is retiring and in his last week of service he put out a fire in same garage torched by the same guy welding up another old motor. Apparently his wife then banned him from working on cars within about 30 miles of the house.

On the upside it could indeed have been a lot worse. I didn't realise he was coming over so still had the keys on me, but I'm really glad I didn't offer any payment today! Replacing those bits is also going to be pretty much impossible

Any way you can get the money out of the bugger?

Isnt there a reasonable supply of parts in the former Yugoslavia? Surely one of the UK club members must have some contacts.

What happens on moto scat when you have to alert members to a technical problem with the board? Cos, you know, that would count as OMG OFF TOPIC POST DOES NOT COMPUTE.

That's what moto-chat is for. Or moto-blog. And that. When either of those are working...

Since I haven't paid for today I may just call it quits. Must be loads of bits in Eastern Europe, although getting a seat squab from there would be another matter. Shame the club only has a Facebook page, since I recently deleted my profile (although that's a whole other grump............)

Ah just knock up another profile just to look at their page and the autoshite one. Dont have to add any people.

The bits will be out there somewhere, I hear Croatia's beaches are very nice this time of year...

This all reminds me of when I were a kid-the local bodger had a garage at the bottom of his garden, next to a row of lockups. his name was Mr Haynes... and he had a mega cool 120Y Coop, yellow with a black vinyl roof. He was welding up a mates Renault 5 when it went up in a fireball, with me and all my mates sitting on the lockup roofs watching.. He ran up the garden path and picked up a bucket of water that was on the back step, and flung it over the burning cinq...not realising the bucket contained all his wife's underwear. We still laugh about it in the pub. His wife will see the funny side one day hopefully...

:D And why was his wife leaving her underwear to soak in a bucket in the back garden!?

METRO 1300 BUTCHERY MUST STOP NAO.

I know Im always on about this but it's going on at an alarming rate now. I think if I won the lottery I would be the person saving cars from bangering and engine rape. Something we'd all love to do.

Could make a museum. Except it would be all metros and Farinas, so a bit specialised.

Might need a re-think.

Count me in, as I'm bringing a 1275 Metro van back from Cyprus in a few weeks. It's going to be my daily when it lands, and will have to live on the street, so do you think I need to take precautions? Should I trade in my guard dog for a bigger model?

More of a danger from joyriders. They're an old favourite as they've always been piss easy to nick.

Oh yeah also today I saw Christmas cards in a shop. Not just a few but loads. I really fucking despair.
