Lost a long standing and much loved companion today. My faithful Xbox 360 finally decided to destroy its tray opening mechanism. It was about 4 years old, which isn't bad seeing as the early models are as reliable as a Laguna with a corroded earth strap

I've got a dead elite console here (no hard drive or anything - console only). It has one red light on and says E74 error. The dvd draw works fine, any good to you for say £20 plus post?

You probaby already know, but changing drives in a 360 isn't as straightforward as just swapping them over - MS designed them not to be tampered with, to the extent that every component is 'coded' and you need a wee piece of almost-legal software to convince the main board that you haven't replaced the drive at all. For someone who's used to cobbling PCs together, it's very easy and worth doing, but I guess most people would rather bin the lot, sadly.

Posted

Nope, I didn't know that...bloody microsoft!

I thought they were just like a pc inside and you could swap bits about....hey ho.

Quite amazing that there were so many problems with the 360 yet an original Xbox will still work perfectly.

I went straight out and bought a replacement 250gb S, got it home - and it doesn't work properly. Switches itself on and off at random, which is likely a power supply issue

So, drove all the way to town, paid for parking and did the customary 20 minute queue at CEX to be told they need to be tested and I'll need to come back tomorrow. They're going to say it works fine aren't they? I just know it.

I am worried for my health in the future, but I am also on the verge of hopefully bagging myself a full-time contract. Could the excess dust be a health and safety issue?

Excess dust is definitely a H&S issue , but if you want a full time job there I would take DSdrivers' advice and just buy a good quality face mask.

I reckon ultimately the company would probably shell out for some if you pursued it, but they would probably get the cheapest ones which aren't very good. Plus it gives you the opportunity to customise yours with a Rover theme so no one nicks it :D !

Modern driver aid toss.

Just over a month ago my Discovery 2 sprung a leak from the rear active cornering enhancement metal pipe.I enquired about new ones and was luckily sitting down when I got the price. These are steel pipes so I cut them and got some rubber ones with proper compression fittings made up at a hydraulics specialist. This worked well for a few weeks until it sprung another leak. This time it was from the valve block but looked like the leak was from the rear bracket.I tried nipping it up and cracked the bloody thing...arse..There are two plastic seals for the steel pipes behind this bracket so it was all ordered from Land Rover and arrived today.

Thank's to rusty steel pipes running through an aluminium bracket I had to hacksaw the bracket off in three pieces. The plastic seals come in two halves and clamp around a flange on the pipe.Once removed I then found the culprit was infact the steel rusty pipe had a pin-hole right on the flange. When I tried to remove the offending item it sheared off flush with surface of the aluminium valve block.I then spent two hours with taps,bolts,easy-outs and screwdrivers trying to get an inch of 10mm rusty steel pipe out of an aluminium block. The hydraulics specialist can't crimp a flange onto metal pipe so what I need to do is get some compression fittings and drill and tap a thread into the valve block then get shut of the fooking thing.

I thought I'd found a ticket to see Lady Gaga but on closer inspection it was a ticket to the Llay Gala in North Wales.

Should this be in the "Antidote" thread?

Don't miss a trick do you squire 8)

The Pronto is providing smiles per mile and top calibre driving experience as only a 20th Century 1500cc power plant can

(Also saving me a fortune on Prosac and Horlicks as well)

Pissed off with the bodges and shit that's wrong with my triumph 1300 bodywork. Although it just proves I never "ruined" a good car, it was bodged badly to get through an MOT, now I'm bearing the brunt of it. I'm not letting it beat me though, cutting discs, primer and sheet steel on my shopping list now. Fuckin old shite

Perhaps you should have badgered "Daddy" into buying you a Mondeo TDci.... and left fixing cars to other people...........

Is that aimed at me? If so, unlike most people, I haven't had the joys of being brought up with a "daddy"

Another dig at my private life. I love the adult nature of you lot

I know this is the grump thread, but can't we just get along?

im still grumpy as i still have a leaking petrol tank on the Granada, after unsuccessfully applying leakfix

i spent most of the day waiting for the tank to empty so i could dry the leaking bit and try to block the leak, then tonight i had to add about a pint of petrol so i could move it to get stuff back in the yard  hopefully it should be empty again by morning, then i can start all over again

Apparently not. As if life isn't shit as it is, and everyone is out to get you rather help, people come online just to be negative and rip the crap out of people. I've never understood that sort of mentality to be honest, infact I always used to think if was young chavvys that was like it, until I saw this forum. But I got over it, because I know I'm younger than most of the guys who are like it, and I'm not the one who gets off on putting others down.

^^^I had a swatch at your Dolomite forum thread yesterday, it does look bodged in the front wing area! However, the advise they're giving you is good, and good luck with the repairs. Make it strong and safe, and get it rust-proofed so it won't happen again for a wee while yet.

Now, two things: firstly, I was the person who cross-posted the photos over here originally, so give me abuse if you want to. Secondly, one of your photos has generated a pretty decent meme - take it with good humour. There aren't that many on here that seem to take themselves so seriously that they can't take a bit of ribbing, so if you can deal with that, then join in - we do not have closed minds, but we do have strong opinions and there are a lot of people on here who have a lot of valuable experience. Just be prepared for some stern criticism if it is felt that you blatently discard advice that may jeopardise the safety of yourself or others either through ignorance or obstinace.

Sorry... But why are you still here? We did this already in this thread. Please make a thread about your wreck of a 1300 so that it can be ignored by folk who aren't in the least bit interested by how matt black it Isn't.

Grumpy as the Yaris goes into the garage today to get a bolt out that I sheared like a total spanner

*Written when being a grumpy twat. Please ignore most of it.*

Ah leave T.1300 be.

He's into old cars, is doing his best and although some of his choices and responses may have not been ideal for in here he's at least running some old shite, and the meme thing is rather a good one.

Bloody hell, it's hard enough owning old shite without the forums turning on you.

Good point Pete... I'm not well at the moment and it makes me irritable

Triumph 1300... Carry on sir! At least it's on the road where it should be... But please listen to good advice when it's given as it really does help.

I am listening to advice, I want the car to be kept alive so am taking any advice/help I can . I do agree, the meme was funny! The only advice I didn't want to listen to was about fitting sprint wheels, as it had been done before and no kittens or nuns died, and the replies I got where "they don't fit", when infact they do...I like constructive criticism not bullshit..anyway ill start a thread soon for you all to not care about ;) cheers

Could you not perhaps just LET IT GO, and get on with it?

Props to you for getting on with it and keeping it. Going on and on and on over old ground achieves fuck all I'm afraid. Ask me how I know.

And that's half an hour of grinding done on the lancia before it started tipping down again. How I wish I had somewhere in doors to work on my vastly over ambitious projects.

Hmmm...despite replacing the door seal, fitting a new moisture barrier (placcy bag) behind the door card, clearing out the door drains and clearing out the sunroof drain holes, I still found a puddle in the rear drivers side footwell of the 944. Bumhats

Nothing blocking the scuttle panel thing under the windscreen is there?

Unlikely to be the scuttle, that would have flooded the front footwells (which can be fatal in a 944 as the ECU lives behind a piece of wood(!) at floor-level in the front passenger footwell).

My best guess would be rear hatch seal or sunroof seal.
