The two top pc tips I have are:

1. Get an SSD drive as your Windows/boot drive.

2. If you can get it in your area some form of BT Infinity malarky.

3. Await SSD drive fail in two weeks.

Important to remember: DO NOT try to defragment a SSD. If the system issues the defrag instruction, the SSD SHOULD ignore it and issue TRIM instead. Sometimes that doesn't happen correctly, and gives the drive electronic HGF. I'm running 2 OCZ SSDs and they're GR32.

Really?

Then I'd love to see how he spells "intellectually".

I bought an SSD and it's the best £80 I ever spent. Only 64GB though, so I run it alongside a 1TB drive which I store the big programs I never use on, and set windows to backup my data off the SSD to daily.

It's honestly like night an day compared to booting off the normal hard drive - It's like using a super hackers computer out of a film - everything happens instantly. By the time I've sat down and got comfy after pressing the power button, the thing has booted up.

some dirty bastard has spit chewing gum on the floor and I trod on it, but not just my sole, no. My shoe lace was sandwiched between the two. The gum had got itself wrapped beautifully around the lace but through driving home, now half of it is also stuck to the carpet of the car. The idea of cleaning it off is making me gag, I might just chuck the trainers. I don't know what to do about the Audi, except maybe say nothing until Matt next drives it and then have a go at him for getting chewing gum in the car,and insist he cleans it. Dunno.

I hope whoever it was chokes on the next piece.

Stick an ice pack on it from the freezer to harden it and it should just pick off pretty easily Louise.

Panel gaps

Today I decided to take it up on myself to resolve the rumbling bonnet problem on the Micra, its been crashed once and bumped twice so has had work done to it. The last bump it had was when some twat in a Metro slammed his brakes on and I went into the back of him. Since then, sometimes when standing still, you could hear the bonnet slightly rumbling at the front end somewhere.

I tried to adjust the rubber bungs at each side of the slam panel, that did the trick to quieten the bonnet and made it better to bump the bonnet up when pulling the bonnet release, however it did also push the bonnet up at both ends bending it that way and the drivers side panel gap was quite larger than ever:

This is with the bonnet actually properly closed.

I tried to slightly bend the bonnet back to shape but I nearly ended up folding it like paper  Alot of adjusting and playing about got me little further. A new bonnet might be in order. :(

Regarding the rumbling from the front I bent this panel back into shape as it had been bent inward previously:

After a lot of dirt, swearing and falling rust I'm not convinced its made much, if any difference, but at least its one thing out of the way. :|

Why did I have to be interested in cars? Why could'nt I be interested in something like bird watching or Train spotting :?

Looks like the wife's laptop is fubar'd. It got cyberclap a couple of months ago (Antispyware trojan) and we didn't remove it successfully, but it also stopped connecting to the internets. The hardware's ok as it connects fine on Linux, but it BSCs when you try to run it in safe mode to eradicate the malware. Fucksticks.

^^ I've had an 100% success rate with antimalwarebytes running in safe mode w/out networking for getting rid of irritating viri - I've also found it's good to set up another user account called "oops it went wrong" (mine) or something running on guest privileges which I use for treating infections in case it takes over your primary user profile.

I'm blaming that one squarely on a cramped mobile keypad.

Had to happen. Scramble the irony-copter.

Thanks, Tayne.

It BSCs trying to get into all configurations of safe mode, this is what makes me think it may be rather more terminal than just a malware problem.

How about booting of Hirens cd or similar then trying a system restore to before this malarky started?

100% here too, but you need networking to get the updates sometimes. Malwarebytes is a fantastic bit of kit.

Cam, you have message on facebook.

If I had a system restore point to prior to this malarky, then I'd do so! I didn't bother doing any stystem restores in the past, and neither did the missus - I believe that I'm not helping myself here either!

Thanks Ash - I have replied on Faceache.

Slugs.

GET OUT OF THE FUCKING HOUSE YOU SLIMY FUCKSUCKERS.

SRSLY, I keep getting slug trails appearing overnight. Not loads but just the odd one and its getting on my moobs. Been round silicone sealing any little gaps which helped but theres still one or two somewhere. As they appear to like somewhere damp to live I'm going to pull the washing machine out and see if theres any leaks behind that.

To add insult to injury, one appeared on the rug last night, seems that one of the cats then ate it and then sicked it back up. Cheers for that puss.

Had this prob for years, nip downstairs at 2 am and find a dozen big fat bastards all over the floor. Get rid off tem all and it gets better for a week then back to square one!!!

Now have sticky copper strip along the skirting and door openings and that seems to hold them back. Also slug pellets behind furniture and under kitchen cabinets.

If I do get one then it goes for a ride over the hedge courtesy of an old charity shop tennis racket

I have had about thirty quids worth of bedding plans disappear practically overnight to them.

Coffee grounds are supposed to deter them so my daughter brought me heaps of it from the coffee shop where she works.

I think they like it as it has certainly done nothing to deter the slimy buggers.

Garden smells like Costa Coffee though.

If you're on Vista or 7: Back up your wife's shite, reboot, hit f8 like you would to enter safe mode, select 'repair your computer' and in amongst the shite like memory tests and system restore you should see a factory restore option. Hit that, come back in an hour...

F8 on boot, select safe mode with networking, download + run CCleaner.

It's on XP, but it while it will boot into Windows normally, it blue screen crashes whenever I try to get it to run in Safe mode.

I forsee a spot of incontinence from our 20 year old cat who likes to sleep on the sofa beside where the laptop gets left ...:twisted::twisted:

My shitty old laptop does this regularly. Start it up with the battery removed, just on mains power. Try it a few times, always works for me after a few goes.

Only if there's a hidden partition with the .wim for a resto, and it hasn't been corrupted. Lots of new stuff now requires you to make 294 DVD-Rs as soon as you finish Windows setup on a new machine. Ballache. I've even seen a new Hanspree NETBOOK telling me to insert the first blank DVD to create the backup set.

Posted

Had a HP netbook do that to me yesterday. The choice is basically: (a) shit out a usb dvd burner in order to continue or (B) find a 16Gb memory stick which is impossible in my work as they're stolen as soon as they're bought. If I ever come across an OS that can fit a restore image on a 256Mb memory stick I'm sorted though. 8)

Anyway those restore disks you burn off NEVER FUCKING EVER work EVER so I don't waste my time.

To add to the stream of PC related grumps, ended up buying a new motherboard and CPU a few days ago cos the old board was 100% unresponsive after I faffed about with it. I couldn't easily get a board to suit the old CPU so I had to buy the combo, and spent a lot more than I should have because I was desperate and needed to buy something there and then.

This afternoon I plugged the old board and CPU into the old PSU to try and work out if the PSU was OK or not, and the fucking thing started right up no worries. Turns out the problem was a tiny swarf of steel from the new PC case that was floating round under the board and I've ended up doing a full wipe and reinstall and wasting £140+ and most of the day on a 1mm piece of steel.

I love him! He obviously doesn't work as a proper commentator like Mowbray or Motty but some of the Lancashire-infused babble he comes out with is brilliant.

If the football over-runs, why not go straight to the prog that's been delayed as soon as the result is in?

Rather than have footage of man hugs and bum-pats and then balding old men saying the exact same thing anyone who's watched the game at home can say? Can't they show that bilge at a later date if necessary?

I watched the football (not sure why, not really a fan) and wasn't bothered about seeing the news, but I can see how it could piss people off.

Cheers! I think another drink might kill me to death. I just got a bottle of Japanese whisky posted to me from my sister. It's called "Nikka whisky" . I've never heard of it but it's 51.4% BANZAI!!

If I even smell it I think all my organs will shut down.
