Ahh, I thought I'd fixed that in the settings

I think you'll find you can change that in your profile. I'm on BST but as I can't remember changing anything, I probably always have been.

Yes, he was definitely late! Times are right on mine, I think there's a tick box in "user control panel" somewhere to do daylight savings time changes automatically.

It wasn't that. I'll let A5 explain though.

Did it go on fire?

No, but I did laugh at it ;)

yes, he did point and laugh

I've had an answer re my earlier question of the third party claiming against me.

Section 151 (2) of the Road Traffic Act:

"Subsection (1) above applies to judgments relating to a liability with respect to any matter where liability with respect to that matter is required to be covered by a policy of insurance under section 145 of this Act and either .

(a)it is a liability covered by the terms of the policy or security to which the certificate relates, and the judgment is obtained against any person who is insured by the policy or whose liability is covered by the security, as the case may be, or .

(B)it is a liability, other than an excluded liability, which would be so covered if the policy insured all persons or, as the case may be, the security covered the liability of all persons, and the judgment is obtained against any person other than one who is insured by the policy or, as the case may be, whose liability is covered by the security."

Section 151 (8)

"Where an insurer becomes liable under this section to pay an amount in respect of a liability of a person who is not insured by a policy or whose liability is not covered by a security, he is entitled to recover the amount from that person or from any person who .

(a)is insured by the policy, or whose liability is covered by the security, by the terms of which the liability would be covered if the policy insured all persons or, as the case may be, the security covered the liability of all persons, and .

(b)caused or permitted the use of the vehicle which gave rise to the liability."

Cuntsticks.

I was pointing at the witness mark (cause of the worrying noise)

Anyway.. the whole story -

After spotting the bust doughnut and removing the exhaust and prop we had to raid the spares pile - the bearing in the front section of the prop was also destroyed. I didn't find a suitable prop, but did find one with a good doughnut and another with the right front section so we mix and matched. While finishing this off, I got a frantic phone call and had to dash off to rescue my wife from some excaped ferrets, I left autofive putting the car back together but promised to be back to check it was ok.

When I returned, the prop and exhaust were on, and it was looking good to go until I looked at the new doughnut and wondered why it was squashed/stretched and the prop was on a funny angle. Halfway through spacing down the centre bearing I realized that we were coming down an improbable amount and still not straight.... THATS when I looked at the gearbox mount and noticed it was collapsed. More spares raiding, that was fixed. I had noticed that the failed one was very oily and perished, in fact the crossmember, gearbox, sump and steering rack were all very oily. Come to think about it, so is the road outside the unit where A5 parks..... At the front of this mess is the gearbox cooler pipework.... ran the engine and yes, it's dripping from a pinhole in the pipe. I fixed that with some compression fittings and a bit of 10mm gas pipe.

So yeah, it's totally broken, and needs scrapping

all the facts revealed :D

i should also point out that i was very grumpy when i thought it was the box banging its guts out.

I had priced up boxs, looked around ebay for cheap cars containing the same autobox, got a few phone numbers for autobox specialists, found the cortina docs., should it need to be MOTted at short notice and bought four and half litres of ATF.

today scary takes one look and diagnoses a problem with tree sap

Selling the Orion and having to deal with the idiot public. Listed on gumtree today and three calls within ten minutes.. The first of which was a genuine sounding guy who wanted to travel down from montrose to have a look so we agreed a time.

Two other callers who both wanted to view also, but since prospective buyer one was already on his way and was travelling a 100 odd mile round trip to see it, i told them that id ring them within the next hour or so if he didnt buy...

Of course the guy from montrose didnt show up, no text, nothing... and when i rang back the other 2... the space of an hour had made both decide they were no longer interested

Definitely drop them a line. Presumably they have no copyright on that image so they're using it without permission. Send them an invoice!

Glad the Granny is sorted. Love it when something hideous turns out to be not so. I avoided a Grump with the Maverick. Thought an ARB drop link was knackered. Then it started sounding REALLY bad. Turns out the bumper is a bit loose and was rubbing on the inner wheelarch liner.

Ahhh, another kit car with perfectly proportioned arches, I see...

I always work on a first come first serve principle with selling vehicles. I would always phone back someone travelling a distance if it has been sold, otherwise, first to turn up with the cash is the buyer.

Posted

Also if someone says they're coming and you get other 'phone calls tell them (the later ones) that you are nipping out and won't be back until whatever time the first person said they'd call plus an hour, and ask them to call you back then, or say you'll call them if they want.

There does seem to be some sort of 'if the first viewer didn't want it, it MUST be knackered' mentality with some buyers. Don't give them the chance.

Word's idea of 'formatting.'

Simple software installing other, pointless, unwanted shit that then installs itself on the desktop, the toolbars and on Facebook and it being an utter arse to completely remove. It's not coming back though, I tore it out of the registry and sent the developers an abusive e mail. Just 'cos I'm nice like that.

The trackpad on my laptop has been behaving funny. Turns out it's an easy, but still pricey fix. The battery has swollen, a barely noticeable amount but enough to press upwards onto the trackpad mechanism. New battery is expensive, and irritating since this one still holds around three hours charge.

Also I've had to duct tape the power lead in so I don't accidentally knock it, which looks awful.

Posted

can you give the battery a bit of shave with some wet+dry to 'ease the swelling'.

Posted

A swollen battery is on it's way out. Replacement non-OE ones on eBay usually aren't too dear.

I thought about putting it in the Workmate and giving it a squeeze

Was planning on selling this laptop sometime this summer, so I'm just going to have to put up with it and hope I don't accidentally knock the plug out.

Feck me, I just clicked the "Quote" button to see how you did that fading away thing, that must have taken ages!

Mandatory grump while I'm here?

Discovered today the Merc has a big yellow triangle warning light on the dash to tell you when you're going sideways due to giving it a bit too much welly on craptastic Chinese Ying-Tong tyres in the pissing rain.

Does fuck all to help, but the flashing momentarily took my mind of the fact that I must have looked like a right fecking numpty!

That's the "YOU HAFF DONE GONE SIDEWAYS BRITISCHER" lamp. Couple of my Mercs did that when I was doing a bit of hooning. When I turned the TC off in the C200K the instruments changed from orange to red "VOT DO YOU ZINK YOU ARE DOING PADDY" was the implication.

Flatbed scanners, can't have used the damn thing more than twice (Epson) only to find the faggots can't be arsed to make it work with Windows 7 when I do need it to scan some stuff.

My wife's laptop has a duff battery, and a noisy fan. She dismantled it today, cleared a huge amount of fluff out and put it back together again. The fan is still noisy but now some keys don't work. Now she knows how I feel after 'fixing' problems on the cars!

Bit like when my mate's [then 5 year old brother] wrote BELL END on the white board in his dad's home office. With what he thought was a board marker. Never mind.

Cheap deodorant (no anti perspirant) works as a good solvent to remove permanent marker. If you've got some thinners about that'll work better without stinking awful.

As for whiteboards, if you scribble over the permanent marker with a normal whiteboard marker, it'll wipe right off.

I used brake & clutch cleaner to get it off the glass and window frame that he also got. Doesn't work on painted wall though.
