Trade policy, possibly, though it doesn't pull as insured on askMID...

The vehicle details for LLU 787D are:

Date of Liability 01 09 2012

Date of First Registration 27 04 1966

Year of Manufacture 1966

Cylinder Capacity (cc) 1725cc

CO2 Emissions Not Available

Fuel Type PETROL

Export Marker N

Vehicle Status Licence Not Due

Vehicle Colour BLUE

Vehicle Type Approval Not Available

MOTs are very fluid things... a case of who to know and the right amount of cash.

Tax exempt, being pre-73.

Yes, but tax exempt does not mean it does not need taxing, it just means there is no charge for the tax disc.

And to get a tax disc, insurance and an MOT would also be required. It doesn't look as if it has been moved to go for an MOT so if it has not and has therefore not been taxed then it should not be parked on the street.

Anyway, this has made me very sad....thoughts and condolences to those poor families and RIP to those that have died. How is it possible to have a concrete wall at 90 degrees to the flow of traffic like that?? Surely there should be barriers to deflect traffic away from it? Just awful...

But it IS licensed, at least according to the DVLA; it's not on askMID but could be on a trade policy. The MOT business is not as clean cut as people would like to think and I know of at least three people who could get me an MOT without actually seeing the car to be tested.

ah, right...no-one had said it was taxed.

Any news on your car break in by the way?? I guess they took my old Fuji? :(

some chumps have been down my street last night trying to rob fuel out of all the cars. For some reason they tried to get my LPG but couldn't (might have been funny if they had managed it) but they did something with my fuel cap so now need to buy a new one. Bwarstwaards

Well, just had a phone call from my neighbour. Turns out the little shits had drilled the tanks so I have a 1p sized hole in the bottom of it.

Question is, rather than removing the tank (which I dont really use as its LPG, just for emergencies) can I fibreglass it? Will fuel eat through that? I might just source another tank like as its probably not difficult on the Audi but was wondering if I could do this as a temp fix as have loads of fibreglass in the garage.

Does anyone know if the Audi shares its tank with anything as I am not sure if its going to be easy to find one?

Like any sane person I don't answer the land line phone during the day.Anybody who knows me will either ring my mobile or atleast leave a message. So apart from Monday I've been at home every day this week.Just after noon each day the home phone has rung, each time I've let it ring then a couple of minutes later 1471'd it.If they are going to ring that time every day then it's bound to be a number with-held isn't it ? Oh no it's 00301 ,what kind of number is that ? 0 0 3 0 1 that's all.Very strange and very annoying.

Posted

Beginning 00 it'll be international. Don't know where 301 is but you can bet it would be expensive to call back. Probably a Nigerian prince...

Posted

My guess is that it'll be someone with an Indian accent called John trying to get you interested in claiming for mis-sold PPI on loans and stuff. Best not to answer!

Posted

Maybe I should get my 419eater script ready and answer it next time. The number as a number doesn't exist so it's probably just an area code then the actual number is with-held.

Made me very sad also.

re concrete walls - I drove home from Lake Como a couple of summers back and all the tunnels that we went through have these concrete features. all seemed to be just long enough to accomodate a truck and not a lot more. Some had standard armco and others didn't. TBH I am not sure a crash barrier would have made much difference here. and where would it deflect it except into the wall on the other side of the tunnel.

Tragic :(

I just meant that had there not been a 90 degree wall there the coach would probably have just slid along the wall scraping the side of it and a lot less kids/people would have been killed.

It makes me feel sick looking at that photo....just horrible.

I'd quite like to know as well, as one of my sheds has developed a small leak..........

Fibreglassing fuel tanks used to be fairly standard practice, it should be fine as long as its not on a seam!

Posted

I spoke to a mate who is a technical adviser for a chemical company who advises people what chemical they can and cant mix and he did say it was fine. However he is dropping over some sort of putty to plug the hole with and I will then lob some fibreglass over the top. Result.

At the same time he has offered me a fully welded up Morris Minor rolling shell for nowt. Dont have enough room at the moment but have said give me a little bit and I will make some space (assuming it is as described). This may well result in my Volvo of Doom ownership being very short indeed but will hopefully mean that I am inspired to start working on the Lancia again.

Posted

Bit of a result there hopefully Mr Imp. There is (or was) a repair bond called 'Dam It' that could hold all manner of chemicals in leaking drums. I'm pretty sure I've used it on solvent leaks and it did the job.

The Morris sounds ok, if it is welded ad said you should be laughing as that's always the worse job on them and virtually any part is piss easy to get hold of. They're actually nice to drive too and quite grin inducing.

Can you still get Petro-Patch? Built virtually a full petrol tank out of that on my old Anglia, just used the rusty residue as a mould and bogged every last bit of it*

*May be a slight exaggeration, but the stuff was good!

My mate used it on a metal water pipe on his T25 and it held o.k, sometimes you see a cheap version at car shows or pound shops. Good luck!

'Yes, we'd like to use your [insert name of thing here], but despite the fact you're helping us massively, we don't want to give you any money. Never mind that you have 16p in your bank account, that's just tough kid.

Why can we not use your [insert name of thing here]?

I've AGAIN failed to get selected for a job. This time it was at an 'assessment centre' where I also got to have a group exercise with the rest of the candidates who, despite being nice enough people, were clearly out of their depth in terms of legal/technical HR issues and, had I not pointed out that we were running out of time, would still be there debating the first topic out of the four that we had to discuss (with a time limit of 35 mins for dealing with 4 issues, they had spent 15 mins on the first one with no sign of coming to a decision). I really must be coming across as a deranged misanthropist, and I certainly am on the road to becoming one!

I am incredibly annoyed, and things aren't made better by the fact that I need copies for some old bank statements from the UK as a result of some crazy shit in the Greek tax system which requires me to 'prove' that I've been living here for a certain amount of time, and the bank's call centre is completely fucked for some reason (it's just ringing and not being picked up!).

I'm sorry to hear about your problems, Luxo. The massive irony is that although I have a job.............they're not paying me to train at the moment, at least until I've completed my training. They decide when the training ends, so they have me by the balls. I'll be able to pay for stuff on eBay I bought ages ago and my bills [just] but after that it's going to be an eBay massacre for a lot of my Amazon spares and Minichamps stuff.

I've decided [name removed] aren't having my [name of thing removed] because they don't want to pay me. Sorry guys, I'm brassic and I'm not a charity.

So, a wee list for you:

1:43 models - Minichamps without boxes but with perspex cases

Volvo Amazon 3 door (silver)

Volvo Amazon 3 door (blue)

Ford RS200 (blue)

Simtek S951 double set (Verstappen \ Brabham)

Zung Fu Mercedes 190 Evo II

Andruet Mercedes 190E V8

1:43 - Norev

Peugeot 205 Rallye - (Bianca White)

Honda Beat - (silver, with unopened soft top that can replace the plastic hood if you want to set it al fresco)

1:43 - Spark

Mazda 767B

Suzuki Cappucino (sic - red)

The rest of my shit is more or less worthless, so I might as well hang on to it. This is about the only time I'll listen to offers for my Ellemann Jakobsen rocker cover. It's for sale in theory, but your price better be obscene.

I may have to resort to that- I have a graphic designer mate. Or I may just sue them under some human rights pretense (a lot of the tax laws are retroactive and/or require you to furnish them with old documents which you had no reason to file on receipt- amazingly, I feel no need to keep a reminder of exactly how much I was paying for my phone line rental in 2007).

My Rover failed it's MOT on a rear wheel bearing and front pads. This didn't sound too bad until I started looking into changing the wheel bearing and it looks like a total PITA.

The wheel bearing seems to be in the end of the axle around the half shaft. I asked a few SD1 guru's who's best advice was that it was easier to change the rear axle!

The haynes manual typically glosses over it by saying "because of the specialist tool required it's best left to a Rover dealer". Useful.

I'd ordered the wheel bearing by the time all this came to light and it ws 35 quid so I'm gonna give it a pop.

Just one problem.

just get a £2 statutory credit report - it'll list all your financial dealings in the UK for a minimum six years - then send them a copy.

Just opened a PM from a forum mod bollocking for me for remonstrating with that cheeky scamp who offered me buttons for my Amazon centre console. Remember the e mail I posted up a few pages back? That one.

Seems he's a old boy with mobility issues - and I gave him both barrels out of frustration because of how utterly shite this week has been. He was apparently rather shocked at the language I used, and has decided my response was 'outrageous'.

I was genuinely insulted by his offer though, it read like a wind up to me. I feel a tiny bit guilty - then again, if he hadn't taken the piss with his offer in the first place, I wouldn't have torn him a new one. He was in the wrong place at the wrong time.

FUCKING HELL. Can this week get any more crap*?

*What I have posted up here previously is a massively simplified version of events with quite a few upsetting incidents removed.

VOC ban heading my way in 5, 4............
