The grumpy thread

Horrendously sobering. Accidents have a nasty habit of not checking to see whether the victim is nice or not though.

Further to my message about my Bora the other day, I had the guys wife ring me this morning, it was him who was killed.

The police contacted her with my details as she didn't have them, i felt so sorry for her, she was just about to tell her 3 kids that their dad was dead and she was close to tears as she was telling me, i didn't know what to say.

That's why i don't like motorbikes.

Sadly, there are too many twats on bikes these days (and I'm not saying he was one!) Coming back from West Kirby the other day in a 40 limit and 3 bikes just went flying past at probably twice the speed limit. They rarely get nicked as most police won't chase them (in case of an accident!) and when they do crash others are often injured as well. One incident springs to mind is a car pulling out and getting hit by a bike.....it doesn't matter how many times you look left & right, if a bike is doing 80 in a 40 limit you are gonna be hard pushed to see them until it's too late...they cover a huge distance in a short space of time.

Too much of 'I know what I'm doing' when they don't.

All too true. Some of them have a disgraceful attitude. Know they can get repaired free on the NHS and don't seem to actually think that crashing might kill them or others, or the trauma it'll cause even complete strangers. Maybe one or two of them should read this thread (well, not all of it, that'll just make them think we're really odd or something). Mind you, a few car drivers could do with thinking once in a while as well...

Tragic news re. the bike accident ,

My cousin was killed on a bike many years ago , she was a passenger and got a lift to a job interview as her car wouldnt start , they found the bike and the main rider the next morning but were confused by the presents of two helmets , she was found an hour later over the hedge in a field very close by , still alive then but it was too late to save her .

I really feel for your friends wife

Anyone want to buy a motorbike?

Not that it matters much, I havent ridden it in over a year!

Why do garages close at 12pm/1pm on a Saturday, and not open on a Sunday (coinciding with motor factors and most scrapyards)? Grr.

Because after 44 hours of trying to make wankers understand that maintenance to their car IS THEIR PROBLEM NOT MINE one gets a little tetchy. That, and I like a lie in after a skinful on a Saturday night.

When I used to ride regularly I was fairly safe, not being big headed but I'd covered a lot of miles and had seen it all, got to the point I could anticipate anything some inattentive twat might pull, would have an escape route ready, take the safe position on the road, I was at the top of my game and actually at less risk than the average car driver. Last year rode a bike for the first time in a decade-ish, only went to Harrow and back, and it's my last time. I was surprised at how it all came back to me, it felt like no time since I'd last rode but it's a very different game now, can't avoid a potential dick without being exposed to another, there are so many more feckless inept twats on the road, when one of them inevitably gets me, I need to be in something that will cannibalise their crumple zone.

Mini roundabouts. Not the innocent circles of white paint themselves, but the way people deal with them.

1. When turning right, why do some people cut across the wrong side of them like they're driving a 6-wheel rigid instead of a fucking golf?

2. When going straight on, why do some people make more of an effort to go on the wrong side of them than it would take to go round?

3. When you are approaching the roundabout indicating right and I give way to you, YOU DON'T HAVE TO PUT YOUR HAND UP TO THANK ME YOU MONG.

...and breathe.

I had bought some silvia tail lights off of si/HKP/MrBishi just the week before he was killed. After years of seeing the name on various forums that was sobering.

hah ha that pisses me off too. DON'T THANK ME! I DON'T WANT TO GIVE WAY!!

Kriss Marshall isn't dead yet.

That depresses me as well. If only that car that ran him over in Brighton was going a little bit faster...

Spent a whole 10 queens heads on a flasher relay for my Honda then found 3 of the fuckers in the garage. Could of done over 200 miles if that tenner was in the tank :x

I often drive over them in the 2CV. Seems a fair way of exercising the suspension. I do not do this when driving a minibus and I always 'cross' on the correct side. After all, people are always telling me to go straight over the roundabout...

Birmingham became a nightmare in the mid-1990s, when the council went mini-roundabout mad. Problem is, no-one seemed to realise how they worked! They even installed them on junctions that made it impossible (or so it seemed...) for a 38ft bus to get around them. Not comfortable.

Despite the protestations of porn actors and mathematicians, two into one rarely seems to work in real life.

Oh, they've never met and they never will. Just my usual trick of forgetting to release one before engaging another.

Always makes me grumpy, you'd think I'd learn.

I know 'Campus' isn't 'Green Wing', but even so (and enlivened by a potent combo of Eristoff Black and Russian Standard) it's still shit.

Fuck it. I'm either too drunk, or not drunk enough. One of the two. Surely that's worth a grump?

"Did you like me posting that [i miss you] message on your facebook wall?"

"Yes it was really nice of you"

"No it's ok I know you don't mean it, I won't do it anymore"

"I'll see you very soon"

"So you don't want to come and see me tomorrow?"

and so forth

You have only one course of action left. Return to her Facebook wall and just write WWWWWHHHHHHHYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY!!!!!

Actually, maybe that's not a good idea. Oh well. Lots more shite in the car park!

Just read about your bike crash situation Trig. A sad situation. :( One of those things that is happening all the time but you never think you'll get affected by it.

Maybe the communications failure can be attributed to the fact that you've been using proper English.

Not sure that would work as I've been told it's very nice that's I'm so well spoken

I've been trying to keep positive but I need to let it out. My once lovely SD1 is now a rotting hulk of rust, filler and bust off bits of mig wire. Now I've cracked it open I can see what a state it's in. I chopped tons of metal out the end of the sill then sat for an hour thinking "how the fuck and I going to put this back together again?".

When I started to grind the rust off the doors there are holes stuffed full of filler. The arch is so thin when I started to grin the rust off it went right through. It also looks like it's had a full quarter not very well fitted at somepoint hence the bust off bits of mig wire in the inner sill. AAAAAAAAARGH!

Once I've started doing it it'll probably be okay and all that but there's a steep hill to climb.

^You're at the bottom of the glen right now; but, climb climb climb, and the view will be great!

I know, i just feel awful for those poor children, His wife seemed to holding it together well but i think it was shock, she was saying how he dealt with all the households finances and that she didn't have a clue on anything, its going to be tough for her.

Judging from her understanding of what you told her, I would not be surprised if she had been intending the statement to mean the exact opposite!

Its a horrible state of affairs this. A small amount of rust becomes a lot of bodged on filler/fibreglass/daily sport, until you realise it used to be a rice crispie packet which someone has shoehorned a V8 into.

It can become a labour or love or an item of hatred that will overcome your life. But like you say, once you get going its okay and it feels good but I HATE starting working on cars and finding all the horrors previous me's have done.

It;s when I put the grinder onto the bottom of the arch and it took about 30 seconds to hit metal because of the inch of filler it needs to pass through my heart started to sink.. To be fair it was perfectly formed filler in the shape of an SD1 wheel arch. The previous applicator was obviously some kind of budding/surpressed sculptor.

There's a lot of unspoken genius in filler work out there, I've chopped up some exquisite examples in my time, I wonder if it's the guys who used to work in the car makers design departments, building the clay mock ups when deciding on new body styles. Now replaced by computers they've gone ferel and roam with buckets of P38.

I've often had those moments where I question what I've started, as the pile of rust begins to equal the size of what's left of the car, once you start welding you'll see real progress, it's more encouraging to create than cut up, get stuck in and before you know it, it's there.
