Local garage stripped a set of four Focus alloys so I could stick the tyres on the front of the Audi tomorrow, no probs! I also asked them to take the tyre from the Audi's steel spare and stick it on a nice porka alloy rim for me. Came back with a huge hole in the tyre wall.

 

"err, the spare already had a hole in it, didn't it?"

Well, they never charged me for it! Lucky I have a big pile of tyres so they can rip a few more before I run out.

The Reds were watching with much interest, when an economically knackered nation sent its forces to the other side of the world, to kick 7 bells out of another nation in that region. Ground support aircraft (RAF/RN Harrier) v Front line fightrt (Argie Air Force). Decisive victory for the UK, although at great cost in British lives.

To be fair, I'm in the energy sector (at least sometimes) and I'm told by a bloke who should know that there's more oil left in the North Sea than what we've already had out of it. Problem being, it's a bit far out.

Sorry to change the subject here, but I really want to go to the NEC Classic car show next month, the one issue being travel! I can afford the ticket no problem, but it requires me to catch a train from Basingstoke to (I presume) Birmingham International, and Im not really sure if its worth the near two hour journey each way. I havent been to a show since the end of July now, so I am overdue this. Should I go? Is it walking distance from the NEC to the train station? I should probably find someone to go with....

Vehicle related grump then, been meaning to do something about the security of my van, any old key opens it so I'm thinking of getting a couple of central locking motors and a remote keyring / module thing to operate it, and then blank off the doorlocks. Anyhows, I approached it today to remove the side window, the sliding glass section rattles and leaks, needs coming apart and the runner felts replacing, pulled the fillet out of the mounting rubber, grabbed the frame, pulled the thing out and was happy to note that the aperture had been treated to a sploodge of red oxide when it was cut a quarter of a century ago, probably by a chap in a pink shirt and suit jacket with the sleeves scrunched up. Then I was pissed off when I realised I'd just removed the closed window from outside, with my bare hands, in less than a minute, not much point locking the heap at all really.

 

The only purpose of the Falklands war was to get the sun reading bottom feeding knuckle dragging masses riled up with national pride / pack mentality, and gain election victory.

I spotted a driveway in Dudley this afternoon that had a very scruffy Metro, an Imp that looked like it hadn't moved for a good few years and I think the other thing was a Chevette (or possibly a Viva). Should have taken a photo.

 

No doubt Wat and MM5 will spot it over the weekend.

How about you putting up some pleasing anecdotes about your own endeavours on working on cars rather than complaining about others not doing so? You went on holiday, and the first post back was a similar grump to the one above - where were your holiday photos of all sorts of old cars?

 

You're a great contributer to this forum Bollox, but lately the contributions have been less, and of lesser quality, than what is expected, so don't be surprised if the rest of us don't post much about a "fringe" topic.

I was alway under the impression that this particular thread was for getting general grumps and anger-inducing things off our chests. I didnt realise it was only for vehicle-related grumps.

 

Life is very trying for everyone, especially these days. So strange as it is, its a comfort sometimes to read other peoples miserys, on this forum, in this thread. Often they'll put a comedy twist to it. It makes no difference to me how big or small the grump/problem is.

 

If you dont agree, again, fair enough. Each to thier own and all that.

 

For balance, here are a couple of vehicle related grumps - I keep missing this one car that I've always wanted to snap a pic of. Bloody car is always either coming the other way, or for some bastard reason, when it is there, I dont have my Camera-Phone.

 

My car is still outside my house, flat tyres, rough looking weathered paintwork. I cant start the fucking thing. Put up all sorts of notices and bothered the clowncils for under-cover/garage parking, all to no avail.

 

Its true what they say - Space is a premium.
