Monday,

Had to renew a lateral control arm on wife's lexus. No fucking chance of the bolt though the bush undoing so had to cut the arm off then destroy the bush to get the bolt out by cutting the metal sleeve. New bush ordered should be here soon hopefully. While the wheel is off I poke a bit of rust prior to vactaning it, fist size hole appears..bollocks bollocks bollocks

Tuesday,

Spend day putting metal back into fist size hole, mig decides it only wants to work on the spot function no matter what it is set to, subframe is now solid again but a good used complete assembly would be the sensible way forwards.

Check price of similar RX300s on ebay, double bollocks should have bought the one off here :(

Still got to fit the bush assuming it turns up tomorrow.

DVLA - Mainly brilliant, but you really need to sort out your vehicle tax procedure, Can't tax on the phone on a monthly DD, Can't do it online because the V5C/2 document reference number has expired because a V5 has been issued, Not yet received, Not able to give out the document ref number for a V5 over the phone because of GDPR - (not sure how this relates to GDPR as no personal data but ok) however they are happy to issue a new V5 @ £25 then issue a ref number, not quite sure how this is different apart from DVLA getting £25!

Options left are wait for V5 and don't use the car, this sort of defeats the object of having a car and greatly slows me down in getting to work every day! tax it for 6 or 12 months. I've had to tax it for 6 months.

Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency You MUST be able to process vehicle tax via a monthly DD over the phone! Your online services are brilliant but you still have a few rules, old and new, slowing down the process and making the whole experience worse for paying customers. But you have zero competition so it's pretty much your way or the highway.

I never thought I'd agree with my father in law that vehicle exercise duty (car tax) should be collected via a higher rate of fuel duty but this would be a much simpler term. This would no doubt reduce the 5.8 billion DVLA collects in revenue so is a non starter.

I can empathise...I've 2 numbers in tonight's Jag roffle.

Keep your chin up fella, you're among friends.

Oh god sake. I thought my old insurance policy was paid off, but they debited me £158 today. Pretty sure I just misunderstood one of their emails so I've got no comeback on it...but not ideal.

More diecasts for sale soon I suspect.

I didn't realise that both Adrian Flux and Footman James were just brokers.

A minor grump relatively speaking, but I'm getting fed up with myself for not being pushy enough.

I had lined up to go and look at a GS300 today near Buckingham. I rang the seller yesterday, who was a dealer, and he was on holiday. He sounded nice enough and from what he verbally said over I was pretty confident I was onto a winner. He put me in touch with his mother who was taking care of the business for him in his absence.

His mother ummed and aahhed about arranging a viewing for yesterday afternoon....'hmmm yes well I suppose I could come over this afternoon for a viewing but it's an hour long round trip....I am at the site all day tomorrow though and would be available whenever you needed to view...but I suppose I could do it today...'

Unfortunately this worked on me, and while I put no holding money down, as I was verbally told 'I won't sell the car to anyone else' I felt happy about putting it off a day.

I rearranged my working day today to get into work super early so I can leave at mid-day and then go and view early afternoon. This would allow me to sort insurance out if I decided to do a buy and collect in one day.

At 11:45, I got a call from the seller's mother confirming....that the car was pretty much sold. A guy was coming with cash to probably drive it away. There's a teensy weensy chance it'll fall through but to be honest this car was one I was certain would go to the first person who showed up.

There were apologies over the phone - apparently her son had been in contact with this guy but not mentioned it - but to be honest it's my fault for not just saying yesterday 'well yes, I WOULD like to view today and as you are taking care of a business and have offered, please could you go and open it up so I could come and view?'

Basically, TL:DR; note to self is to stop being so considerate to people who haven't yet necessarily earned that right.

Because you're a nice guy, sometimes it seems those who get on are complete twats, don't let it grind you have your moan and move forward.

I often think at times I should be more assertive because I've had exactly the same happen to myself.

Fuck sake. I went to collect my other half in the Alfa today to just use it before it goes (to the buyer who has yet to make plans) but now the front right caliper has jammed on. Brake pedal is rock hard.

I have never hated anything as much as this car.

Sympathy 'like'.

The only vehicle to make me utter those self-same words was also an Alfa, funny enough.

Fuck me as if a hole in the sills of one car isn't run enough for one day the sodding handbrake on the ST is clicking and when pulled on.

Don't know how may times this thing had been messed with but it's a lot.

Of course the caliper freed off when the AA turned up. Sigh.

There's a kebab van that parks down the road I had to pull over in (in Basingstoke) and he turned up when the AA were there. He got really agitated at us being there and told us to move as it was his place of work. Okay, it's a public highway....how blatant does he want to make it that the whole van is a front for something else? Proper riled me up, as well as AA bloke.

Oh that winds me up. Cones and passive aggressive messages left in laybys.

We've got a snack cabin locally, sits on the grass behind a layby as a permeant fixture. Signs up about "no long stay parking" (it's just off the M1 so fair game for tired truckers) and now they've started coning off half the lay-by every night so they can get their van in in the morning

Get yourselves to fuck HSBC.

Declined a business current account application today because my other half (co-director / shareholder) has poor credit history. Wasn’t asking for an overdraft or any kind of credit facility.

Doesn’t seem to matter that I have perfect credit and two existing companies that bank with HSBC

^^ I've never understood this. In the past, when my credit rating was shit, I've been turned down for things that didn't include any borrowing. Weird.

Giving tide (www.tide.co) a go instead even though it’s not ideal for multiple users. They claim no hard credit check just identity verification and have referred the application for further checks anyway!

They're punishing you for not playing the game and being an obedient little debt monkey. Get a bloated Audi on tick and a re-mortgage for some gaudy windows / extension and you'll be right.

I have never owned anything as Italian as this car.

FTFY.

Hey the Alfa buyer finally gave me a vague collection date...

'may be next week etc'

Despite me insisting it be before the 5th.
