That shouldn't really matter, they are playing for their country, not Capello. Even people like me that never watch league games make time for international matches and that was a disgrace.

Surely 11 players on stratospheric salaries can work out their own way to play in a game? We did at school.

It's depressing. I doubt it's the manager, wasn't he with AC Milan, Juventus, etc etc? I know nothing about football anymore, so I'd say the players are either shit, or their hearts weren't in it. Making too much money can probably have that effect, as is the case with politicians, they're going to go home to a mansion, whereas they should at least be tortured slightly.

I like the fact that England must have been shit and it wasn't that the Germans just played really well - that seems to have become a real British way to deal with things (the media don't help).

I did actually watch 20 mins of the first half in a pub - before I got sick of all the racist, tattooed scum surrounding me and went home to enjoy the quiet roads instead. The Germans were playing superbly and deserved to win from what I saw. But now, footy is over again so back to Wimbledon and watching F1 cars fly!! Red Bull gives you WIIIIIINGS AAAAAAAARGH!

Thanks, chaps. I'm fine - I have a hard head

Kiddo however has Asperger's, so we had to have a good long chat afterwards to let him ask any questions he needed to, and to come to terms with the experience. He's a bright bloke, he'll be OK.

In the end, we gave up waiting for Plod to reappear - twat manager by now plying us with free stuff - and went back to the Conservatoire for the last concert of the day (kiddo was doing a percussion workshop, the reason for being in Brum at all) which seemed to take his mind off the thing.

I will be formulating letters of complaint while at a tedious seminar tomorrow. I work for a very large trade union. We have shit hot lawyers. Watch this space...

Like those above, sorry to hear about the MaccyD incident.

As regards the football, I'm disappointed. I can live with the result, we were beaten. What disappointed was the disallowed goal during a good 15 minute spell. If we'd gone in at half time 2-2 with our tails up. Who knows....

Still in the end we got beat cos we had a non existant defence.

But after I've just watched the Argentina/Mexico game the whole goal line technology debate is going to kick off big style. The only reason it doesn't exist is because of Sepp Blatter and he was there today.....

You only need 1 bloke stood behind the net.

Anyway I have money on Argentina winning the cup, and it's also funny watching Maradonna, the world's tallest dwarf, kissing lots of men

Tomorrow I will be working for the 36th different company in the last 12 months. Agency HGV work is like living out of a suitcase. Maybe I should settle down somewhere.

Only just woke up to the England shambles. Haven't seen the game yet, don't know if I'll be able to stand it. The only positive I can think of is it will lead to a major shake up of our team and their attitude. To try hard and fail is one thing, to not even look like you're bothered is unacceptable. I'm struggling to see where this new 'golden generation" is coming from though

I'm not really fussed either way with the football result but I do find it amazing that the powers that be still refrain from using any sort of technology (even a bloke in a room watching video replays?!) to prevent such wrong decisions from being made.

Ever since watching American Football on Channel four when it appeared in 1985 or whenever I was impressed by the numbers of officials making sure everything was fair and square. They use refs in some high up room watching replays I think to determine close calls? Even tennis has managed to use beeping noises to help the referees make the correct decision for years.

The non goal this afternoon will provide all the fans/pundits with their desirable what-if scenarios but its shambolic that such a thing can happen. :?

Oh and Chaseracer. Bloody appauling behaviour :x

I love the world cup.

Thanks to Germany having a better team than us, the Merc has now had it's three pointed star ripped from the grille, a headlight smashed and deep scratches put down the front wing...

Makes you proud to be British, doesn't it.

Bloody disgraceful, isn't it.

I was going to take my BMW for a spin last night but thought better of it.

these thugs, morons and brain dead idiots who berate non-football-people like me for a lack of national pride are a joke.

I will show no end of pride in my country when individuals who act like oaf/animals due to the outcome of a game of football receive lengthy custodial sentences for their antisocial behaviour.

Sadly 'hard working sun-readers' continue to be permitted to behave in such a manner with only the most minor of reprimands for misdemeanors.

It won't make you feel any better but on behalf of football fans who aren't cretins I'm sorry to hear what happened.

My mate's missus works at A&E and told him last night was 'horrendous' and the place was full of 'injured drunkards'. Can't think why that was.

With all the world cup stuff in mind, I actually moved the Sprinter onto the drive last night so that anyone so inclined would have to squeeze down the side of the SEAT and soon to depart Kia to get to it. Fortunately it was ok.

I'll be glad to see the back of the fake patriotism displayed by many (but not all) of those who festooned their houses / cars / every fixed surface with flags. If they were really that patriotic surely they'd be flying the Union Jack or St Georges Cross flag all the time and not just to mark some kick ball game that we are evidently not very good at anyway.

I took the infant out for a steam train ride yesterday - it was brilliant, no traffic or idiots to deal with but then dozens of policemen out in the town - I dread to think what will have happened to BMW and Merc dealers, although in these parts they are both a bit off the beaten track for the local hooligans to get to.

And... The people who are damaging German cars last night will no doubt be the ones who aspire to having a brand new 1 Series / A3 outside and got pissed on cheap foreign lager. Tosspots.

cheap foreign lager.

I noticed last night that the 'official beer sponsor' or whatever of England is Carlsberg.

Living on one of the main roads into town, and the town centre only being a 15 min walk i decided to park my Passat around the back of my house last night just in case i got some pissed up loser start on it.

Luckly i never saw any trouble apart from some pisshead who had put a beer can in my compost bin overnight meaning the the binmen wouldn't take it this morning and slapping some sticker on it saying that they are refusing to take it due to non recyclable goods being inside it...

My fucking car :x

I've just spent the whole day in the searing heat changing the suspension pan, kingpin and fulcrum pin, and fixing the leaking fuel pipe, so I book the MOT at 4:30 with the intention of going to the classic car/OSF meet at the A127 Diner....then I back it out of the garage to go for the MOT...it just dies in the drive and won't restart. No petrol is getting through :x

So fuck it, that's my evening ruined

The radiator fan on my car isn't coming on. I've bought a new thermostat (twice incase one was broken), a new thermostat/radiator switch, and changed the water twice. It won't come on, even when the temp is soaring dangerously close to the red zone.

If I connect the brown wire to the battery earth, it spins up. If I put the radiator thermostat switch/temp sensor on the exhaust manifold, it starts, but it just isn't working?

I'm now going to resort to taking the innards out of the thermostat housing, and wiring up the fan so it's always on, putting a switch behind the fuse to switch it off. Only, taking the fuse out also turns ABS off. What the fuck is going on? (apart from a short circuit with the ABS wiring).

Guess thats a new generation of multiple units, entirely sealed in, not like those older ones from the 50's were you could slide open the side windows.

Re the football posts; last wednesday (the day of England's rebirth into the once great team that we all knew they weren't) I was staying over in a wetherspoons lodge in Tewkesbury.

I don't follow football at all so had a wander around the town in blissful peace and quiet and glorious sunshine whilst the match was on not daring to go near any licensed premises, I got the idea that England had won when the streets filled up with various species that Charles Darwin could not have dreamt of fitting into the species of man screaming "I'm England till I die" etc etc and generally annoying all and sundry.

A couple of hours later I've changed, showered and thought it safe to go down to the bar for a bite to eat, 2 hours since the match finished it seemed pretty safe, what I didn't know was that Germany were palying Ghana and 5 or 6 young German lads were staying the night as well; one of them politely asked the barman if this match would be on telly that evening, the barman asked the manager and he said it would be, these lads who would be about 20ish sat enthralled by the game, drinking Becks by the gallon, speaking in reasonable tones, not a hint of aggression being no trouble to anyone, they were obviously enjoying the game and I found myself half watching it (something I can't do when England play I have to get out instantly) and went to bed wondering how our European cousins don't feel the need to act like total twunts whilst enjoying a few beers and a football match.

Proud to be British?

I used to be.

Indeed. The man who was bold enough to say 'no, the P6 is good, but its replacement can be much more simple' and would have been on to a winner if his employers could have built the SD1 properly...

I thought you were going to say the German lads got a load of abuse from ENGERLAAAANDD!!! morons.

I have been to Berlin many times and have found Germans to be very nice, socially resposible people. They like a beer but don't drink to get shitfaced like people do here.

I have said it before on here but I loathe this country and have always promised myself I will never raise children here.

Sad news about Spen King. His ideas rescued the company from the brink of disaster on several occasions.

I hate to sound unpatriotic and will no doubt be a little unpopular for saying this, but I’m actually quite happy England are now out. England as a football team as been overrated and vastly overhyped for much of my own lifetime (I'm 25). There is always much expectation and then the inevitable genuine look of surprised 'dissapointment' whenever we get knocked out. I'm amazed we managed to get though to the last 16 given the generally dire performances in the group stage.

As for certain sections of die-hard England fans, the ones who cause the trouble and think alcohol/abuse is the answer to everything, I feel disgraced to be from the same country as them and whenever there is a large football tournament on (such as the Euro's or the World Cup) I don't want to be associated with them either. I find myself wanting to become increasingly distant from them.

I was up in Scotland early on last week and spent two night at the Premier Inn on the southern edge of Stirling. No mouthy, insulting football hooligans or lairy larger-louts anywhere. It was bliss. The adjacent put there wasn't flying any flags of any sort and wasn't even advertising any matches. I walked in and in the smallish bar area was a large TV showing whatever match was on that evening. Several locals were sitting there quietly and occasionally chatting amongst one another when a questionable decision and/or a poor/decent pass was made. No swearing, no clear allegiance to one side or another. It was superb. I happily sat there amongst them watching the games with a quiet pint or two. I wish I was still there now to be honest.

I was amazed at how quickly the flags come down yesterday afternoon. The people who live across the road from us had it taken down from their bedroom window half way though the second half. It’s amazing at those who have done nothing but shout fake and sickly patriotic messages down our throats over the last month or two are very quick to want to disappear when things turn inevitably sour... Someone in the next street had bought a huge seven foot square thing, mounted it on a pole and stuck it in the middle of his garden as I passed by only an hour or so before kick off. He'd also put up flags in every one of both his car's windows. They'd all vanished when I passed that way again last night. It didn't even last twelve hours!

Mr Capello isn't solely to blame for England's exit. Far from it. He may pick the team and the tactics. but he can't dictate the player's general attitude (which was poor for most, especially the usual mouthy Rooney) or performance. The only thing that I can really blame Capello for is again, picking the same old bunch of overhyped, oversexed and overpaid big-ego'ed players. In picking the same old players who have little passion or desire on the international stage, all we will see is the same old results... Then again, we don't really have any genuine world class players any more. There are exceptions of course, but in general, England's chances of winning anything big are something we're not likely to see for a very long time.

Away from football, I'm very sad to hear of the passing of Spen King. A real inspiration who will be very sadly missed. :(

As far as I'm concerned that goal being disallowed made up for the one that was (wrongly) allowed in 1966.
