^ nope, but my next door neighbour's was jammed with baby socks.  She was happy I found them for her before she called out an engineer and paid through the nose for a five minute job.

My sister's back in hospital, after a few years of doing really quite well.  Mental health problems can fuck right off.

By about 10:00 p.m. last night I was feeling terrible, worse, Phoebe was having trouble walking. We ended up sleeping on the floor together (Chester in the mix as well) and we sort of jointly whinged until about 3 when sleep happened.

It wasn't until this morning when I was doing our joint meds that I realised I had neglected to give Phoebe her evening pills and I had missed mine as well! No wonder we were so bad. I have a routine that is followed daily so I NEVER forget. But because the KIA was being collected, the routine went out of the window and I forgot.

Poor little lass, she was really struggling last night, I feel so guilty :(

Funny how we always worry more about them than us if we do such things isn't it?

I assume she's ok today now she's had her morning dose? Oh & you are too?

She has had two full doses now and is back to normal, she's not been out for a walk though, had me proper scared. I am fine as well after two doses but it was a stark (and shocking) reminder that I am only 'better' because of all the drugs. Last night was really unpleasant and a real throwback to a few months ago when I felt like this (that) all the time.

Are you sure that it's Morrissey?

Nope, I just blithely assumed it was :-)

On washing machines, I once loaded a pair of jeans into the machine and just saw a 5p piece slip out of the pocket and disappear between the drum and the seal.

Bugger I thought. I bet that will come back to haunt me.

Sure enough about 3 weeks later the machine started to sound like someone firing a machine gun into a skip full of metal dustbins.

Not really knowing what I was doing, I took the lower cover off the front and there was a 3" screw cap.

Undid that and out popped a shiny clean 5p.

The machine was back to normal and lasted another 10 years.

Shame Bosch make shit machines now.

I was made very sad this morning when  heard that Stephen Hawking had died. 76 is not a bad age for anyone and with his disabilities and an expectation that he would be dead before 25, good going indeed.

He was a very impressive and brilliant man with a superb sense of humour and of course, an extremely important addition to the world of Physics. It was reading his early work and then 'A Brief History of Time' that got me interested in cosmology and quantum physics.

I am saddened by his loss but sort of relieved that his suffering and struggle is over. I hope and pray he finds peace and the answers that eluded him when he was alive.

You know he was an atheist, right?

Other than that, I heartily concur.

I think the sensation is when the undigested seeds come out the other end?

You're allowed to pray for atheists. I'm as atheist as they come but I'm not going to object to someone praying for me at any time of my life. Them being wrong doesn't hurt me and it might bring them some comfort. TBH I appreciate the sentiment, even if I know it won't change anything in my existence.

That is shit. Sorry to hear she's not doing so well. Maybe she needs more quotes to fix ZX exhausts to re-focus her mind / cause confusion / cause amusement (or brief panic).. or something.

Mental health issues can indeed all just get in the sea.

There was a period in the 80s where he wasn't! He even said as much in the famous book, but it's towards the end so no one ever read that bit :)

You mean that bit about "knowing the mind of god"? That was intended in a Spinozistic sense, as he explained at a later date.

Anyway, I don't want to get dragged into a religious debate. I just thought your "hope he finds the answers" comment was a strange epithet for someone that had no belief in an afterlife.

It wasn't the praying bit that sounded odd to me, see my comment above.

A friend of mine is an evangelical Christian; we disagree on many theological issues (lol atheist lol) but he's tolerant enough to hear other arguments.

When I had my accident and nearly lost my eye he told me prayers were said. Helped us both out, weirdly.

Probably important that you're also tolerant; far too often I hear tales of 'aggressive atheism', which in my book is as bad as religious extremism.

But it doesn't really matter what Professor Hawking believed. Empirically speaking, either Stephen is right, and there is no god or afterlife, or xtriple is right, and there is. From xtriple's point of view, Stephen Hawking is likely in some sort of afterlife right now, and it doesn't matter what he (Hawking) believed in life. And if Hawking was right and there is no afterlife then it makes no odds to him anyway.

It's often difficult to establish a sensible demarcation where emotive issues such as religion are involved.

I do hope nobody mistakes my comments in this thread for "aggressive atheism", that certainly wasn't my intention.

Posted

No, and I didn't intend to imply that either!

I don't discuss religion usually, I have odd beliefs anyway (Hate organised religion with a passion) and am a firm believer in science over faith. However, it doesn't hurt to keep an open mind now does it... called 'hedging your bets' I believe!  :)  I hope there is some form of afterlife and people like him get the closure they deserve, that's all.

Didn't mean to start a heated discussion about God/science etc.

Sorry :(

What was that said about politics and religion? If politics is a no-no here, then I definitely don't want to see a debate about religion.

Grrrrrr - you do some work for a new company, agree invoice to be paid half now and the rest later. Then get ignored. Grrrrrr looks like I'll be paying them a visit.

'Towards the end' = 'after the first few pages' for most people, myself included. See also War & Peace.

Forgetting pills is easy, and the effects surprisingly serious and long-lasting. I'm only 42, and relatively mentally capable, but have to rely on one of those boxes when a compartment for each day.
