As far as i understand, car parts on special order at Halfrauds are from Eurocarparts. Mate ordered a few bits from Bristol branch last month and when they were delivered they had ECP stickers and part codes all over them.

Yep, this is definitely the case. Cheaper direct from ECP.

The Cheltenham ECP is stupidly close to halfords too yet I bet people still order parts there.

Talking of ECP and Halfords being close together...

There are two branches of Halfords in Aberdeen. Kittybrewster and Torry. I used to work at the Kittybrewster one from 2009-2011 in Bikehut.

In 2012, long after I left, a branch of ECP opened up in Aberdeen (finally!). They seemed to poach pretty much the entire staff from Halfords Kittybrewster (just a few streets from the ECP) and they even tried to offer me a van driving job as I was on record as having previously worked at that branch of Halfords. I politely declined, as I had a cushy number with the Scottish Government department of Agriculture at that point.

Anyway, I still go into ECP to this day and recognise at least 50% of the staff there. The branch manager from Halfords became the area manager for ECP, the assistant manager from Halfords is now the branch manager at ECP, etc. etc. :D

My French eBay buyer fell through . I was starting to hear some excuses, which meant god knows when it'd be picked up so We agreed to cancel the sale and gave him his deposit back.

Back on eBay it is then.

Good question, I should probably do a write up on it, if just to put you all off buying old motorhomes

I think it's punishing me as this all started last November, barely a week after I thought "hmmm I fancy a change, might sell it next year"

I have got a few fascinating* things to write up in various threads, but wont because it all might fuck off into the ether again.

We agreed to cancel the sale and gave him his deposit back.

Why?  Surely that defeats the entire point of taking a deposit?

Posted

Because with the deposit he could continue to delay. I could see a long drawn out process of delays picking it up given I was starting to get excuses from him and he was in France and I'm in Scotland. I thought best to nip it in the bud, cancel the sale and send the deposit back .

Having only just fended off the last bogus speeding ticket, another one came through yesterday, so obviously there IS a clone out there. Really not sure I have it in me to go through all that stress again, seriously considering just paying it and doing the speed awareness course or whatever.

Should have changed my plate immediately as soon as the last one came through. Fucksticks

Easy enough to prove it wasn't you. The exact time can be established, you can prove you were somewhere else (from phone location records if nowt else) and there'll almost certainly be differences between the car photographed and yours.

I've had EXACTLY this scenario (except for someone driving in a bus lane in London) and simply wrote back saying, effectively :"I was somewhere else and can prove it, suspect it's a clone, not me guv." You can also add that you've just had this before, and you're a bit miffed.

Other than the initial hassle of phone calls and letters, you should get it resolved pretty painlessly.

It's in the system innit!

Not easy to get resolved necessarily. You may be able to prove you weren't there, but can you prove the car wasn't? If the same model/colour was wearing the cloned plates the battle will be far from easy. Unless you happened to go through a speed camera 100 miles away at a similar time.....

Posted

That's exactly the problem, proving I didn't do it is the easy part, proving my car wasn't the one involved is the difficult bit, because then they simply do you for failing to provide driver details which is 6 points, a massive fine and an endorsement code that insurance companies really hate.

Last time was lucky in the respect that I had lots of evidence and witnesses to where both me and the car were at that time and date. This time it's not so clear cut. Norfolk police already alleged that it was an identical vehicle so I'm not expecting the pictures to help me out much.

The only thing I really have going is that I spoke to Norfolk this morning who only dropped the cloning investigation 3 days before this latest offence occurred, and they've liaised with the issuing ticket office for this offence and filled them in on the background....so I'm back at the 'please send us pictures of your car so we can investigate' stage

Hopefully the DVLA will issue me a new plate so I don't have to have some wanky personal one, and they can mark the old one 'scamming cunt, if seen truncheon in the ball sack and arrest immediately'

Err???

The OP seems to be...

Once you are 'in the system' getting out of it can be are right old hoo har.

Well I can't speak for Norfolk Police but I know here that if you say you weren't there and have some evidence, even if it's a similar car for something like speeding they would just drop it. They're too busy with other stuff to chase up something like it, might be very different there.

It's called the safety camera partnership, all they do is investigate safety camera offences, they don't get busy with other stuff because safety is their only business.

Possibly so...

I have thankfully no experience of cloning fines. However I have been a victim of 'being in the system' in other ways. It wasn't me! The system says it was. Ok, it was a parking fine in the North East, but system generated fine. Faulty ANPR camera that misread someone else's number plate as mine. I was in Devon at the time. Could prove it, but couldn't prove that it wasn't my car. The system rolled on and I got taken to court. Happily the faulty ANPR camera was discovered in time, so no further action. But goes to show what is possible.

Posted

I know its a pain but going to court is a good thing and the magistrates can sometimes be the only one that can have the final say on what happens. They generally aren't stupid and normally do the right thing.

Oh, really and maybe perhaps..

Not always though. Luck of the draw.

Neighbour has put in for planning permission for a large extension, not on the side furthest from my house where there is a shitload of space, but as close as possible to my house, replacing his garage. Suspect the next thing will be an application to build another house in the larger space, but don't know because neighbour now won't talk to me. This despite relations being cordial for the last 3 years and my girlfriend even helped him with finding a job recently.

Three week time limit to object, minus the 4 days it took for the letter to arrive, means I've been spending what feels like every spare minute reading up on planning guidelines. Fun!

We've been doing similar, but for a pair of sheds intended to house 4000 pigs in 8sq. ft. each.
