The shower in our bathroom is still leaking despite all attempts to fix it. Its started to cause the chipboard floor to go rotten. Fcuksticks!Im so pissed off with it all I want to drop a grenade down the bog and blow the whole lot to bits.Anyone know a good bathroom fitter? The rest is pretty shit, too.

Aye, but your a bit far away for me to pop down and do it, unless you just want the kit fitted and you can do the decorating yourself

We had a power cut last night!

It lasted a whole 2.5 hours and had a definite early 80s late 70s ambiance.

DONT frigging talk to me about power cuts.

Built in 1962

This is Emily St Substation, we are connected to this by some old patent dancing shoes laces covered in second hand tin foil. EVERY winter without fail in the 16 years we have lived here we get power cuts, they vary in duration from a couple of hours (a breaker has tripped out) to three days (place caught fire). What is really really really fucking frustrating is that my neighbours to the right are connected to Fir Trees Substation

built in 1980 to combat the problem of a village with too many things lashed with bits of Wrigleys spearmint gum foil inners to one elderly substation...

The problem is so bad that some of my neighbours and all of the shops (on the left) have generators. I myself have three 100AH batteries trickle charged by solar panels and topped up every 4 months with a Ctek charger. I can at least run the GCH and some lights through some inverters.

Tim, I know leaky showers are a PITA and I sympathise, but if you're going to drop a grenade down the bog, of course there's going to be shit everywhere. Alternatively, I recommend filling your bathroom with chickens.

power cuts

Yes but your substation is much more charming.
Actually on the inside it is very nice - but then I like old switchgear and transformers (except when they burn out) - I had a wander round one day when the power had been off for hours to see what was going on and had a right nice chat with one of the Norweb Federation workers who had also worked at GEC roundabout the same time as me.His opinion was it needed taking off line and rather a lot of it upgrading (including most of the underground cable that seemed to be devoid of the oil insulation)

Who'd be a car trader ?In November I bought an MOT failure via the MOT station.I filled in the yellow trade slip and left it with them.Did the work required and sold the car on ebay. When I collected the new owner from his home address he produced a set of trade plates and asked me to trade the full V5.Yep,no problem except the trade slip should by now be with the DVLA.I wrote out a timed and dated reciept and handed the car over.Today I get a phonecall from the MOT tester.the original owner (his customer) has got a parking fine for the car.So a few minutes of looking I give him Mr Akhtar's address and the time and date the car was sold.Half an hour later the original owner is on the 'phone. His opening line was "We've got a problem and I don't want to get the police involved, yet" Hmm,sounds serious.I explained the above and told him he could have my bottom copy of the reciept if it helps."someone has taxed it in my name, how can they do that ? it's illegal" he says. You can tax a car off the green slip and write whatever on it to correspond with an insurance certificate. If Mr Akhtar or whoever taxed the car didn't send the top part of the V5 off then that is the illegal part.I explianed this to him and also if the car was taxed on a trade policy is it actually insured. What really gets to me is how many "MrAkhtar's" and others of his ilk are out there getting their mates to tax cars and running around with no insurance and not informing the DVLA ?

I somehow can't see the people in Africa being very happy with corduroy, moleskin and Harris tweed anyway.

Believe me if the people of Africa can fit into my clothes then they aint fuckin starving. Unless of course they want to use my T shirts as a new yurt.

Went to Basildon Hospital today for check over following Crohns attack last weekend which made me miss my trip to Dallas. Probably good job as Mrs P went and god only knows if any planes are getting back again so at least the kids have one parent for a bit!. Anyway, situation aint that great and I am back on serious hardcore drugs with some nasty examinations coming up in the next few weeks. Plus very important job interviews coming up and the drugs tend to make me overactive or extremely sick which generally isnt a good look when trying to impress employer. Plus all this shit has to be declared on medical forms and stuff which adds additional disadvantage to job apps these days. Gah, quite depressing. Still, as I cant sleep I'll get to have another Wallender fest tonight so I suppose it isnt all bad. More Steroids vicar?

Cheers Minimad, appreciate that. I do pretty well considering I've had it for ten years but just occasionally it gets me down a bit. I'll be sweet as in a few days.

Mrs Four has Crohn's and had been taking steroid pills for ages but they made her go crazy...she switched to Remicade treatment about 18 months ago (it's a 3 hour injection every 8 weeks) and hasn't had a flare up since. She's a different person now and I'd recommend you check it out. She said she wished she'd started it sooner

Posted

Yeah, I've read about Remicade but we dont use that over here. We probably use something similar under a different name. Hookworms are the answer unbelievably! One reason we develop Crohns is a lack of exposure to natural parasites so our immune systems get a bit bored and attack the body. Asthma is a similar reaction. Tests show that people deliberately infected are free from symptoms for many months, problem is you then need to kill off the hookworms and let the body recover for a few months before repeating the process. Sounds mental, but no more so than using maggots to cleaning flesh wounds....Might ask the NHS to prescribe me some

I actually do read the WSJ at work. I'll keep an eye out. Cheers Darkfour!

Not sure whether to post this on the Grumpy or Antidote thread ... Mrs P and her mate go away on the coach to London for a weekend every year but this year they've gone on a cruise to the Red Sea. So now she can't fly back due to the Icelandic volcano - she gets to stay on the cruise ship until the skies clear, whilst I get more solo time to look after the step juveniles and the infant. Somethings gone wrong again, as the Buzzcocks probably said.
