Sorry about the cat FT.I've just got home from work to find our cat is in the vets having being hit by a car. Boyf said it was a choice between "pay up or put down" Thankfully we have pet insurance, and if that doesn't cover it we'll add some I'm sure.I don't mind spending the money (to a point obviously) as long as his quality of life is maintained. If he can't bitch slap the dog anymore, then its just not good enough. Our road is a dead end, and very few cars need to use it, unfortunately some people think its ok to use it a drag strip because its nice and quiet, but quite apart from the cats, there are lots of elderly types and a few little kids living round here. Our neighbours came banging on the door late one night a few months ago because they'd found a cat on the road, not ours, but I had an idea who's it was. I took it to the vets with them as they were so upset and was hosing down the road after midnight. Poor thing didn't make it. :(

Bloody hell, bad day on the cat front. Hope yours is ok Louise.Right, my two little fellas are staying in tonight, I'm not tempting fate.

Hey, our cats are shit scared of the rabbit. He chases them everywhere and his party piece is to jump straight into his cage from the floor!

Cheers all - the other cat is moping and spending much time in the cupboard under the stairs.Off to look at a TD5 Disco this weekend.

Frigging hell, a 20 year old cat? Is that normal?

The vets were amazed - 15 years is lucky

Thats him asleep a while ago. In great health untill new year :(

Well that is amazing. I guess losing a pet you've had for 20 years is tougher than one you've had for 4 or 5. I once had a 14 year old goldfish, until a gyppo goldfish arrived that had whitespot and killed it.. Frigging gyppo fish!

This last page or two has convinced me that if / when I move my two are staying in full time. Not that thats a big hardship for them as they aren't that bothered about going out anyway.

I remember hearing that housecats have an average life span of 10 years or so, but cats that are allowed to roam only live 5 years on average (or about that) because of traffic, poisoning e.t.c.

I'd be completely gutted if any of my cats were killed on the road. Luckily ours seem to have pretty good road sense, except the oldest one (about 4 yrs old) makes a beeline straight for my car when he hears/sees it, even when I'm still about 200 yds away from my house. He'll also, amusingly, come for long walks with me, trotting at my heels like a dog. Ours is a dead-end dirt track anyhow, and there's about 10 cats in the area so drivers tend to look out for them.We did have a 4-month-old kitten that got fatally wounded by a dog, right outside our house, although the dog's owner came back to apologise & paid most of the vet's bill without being prompted - which made a nice change.

My one and only pet (yep!) was a cat called Molly and she ran away in 1999, only to return after a few weeks for food, then promptly ran away again. She didnt come back that time, and considering we lived next to a main road at the time I doubt she got far. Sad, she was the same age as me and was pretty hilarious, she was pretty moody but seemed to like me. My aunt had two cats up until recently, brother and sister, one died outdoors due to an apparent heart attack, and its brother wasnt ever the same, and shortly after completely disappeared. But in her true fashion, she has since got two new kittens, again siblings. On a happier note, my Girlfriends cat usually hates every single person, but really likes me, in fact Im the only person he doesnt attack. But he is a complete psycho, he will give you the worst death stares at times. Ugh, I wish this flat let us have pets! Due to a previous managers dog tearing up the stair case, they have banned pets in company accomadation. Its not fair, Id literally kill for a cat.

That's atrocious FT, love cats. Horrid thing to cope with. One of our 3 cats is down to about 3 lives now I think, a year ago she was attacked by a fox (or something one night) then last year she was hit by a car in the arse and it popped a hip joint out, made her incontinent and paralysed her tail. She's still with us now after operation, no longer pisses herself (her method of dealing with this was amusing) and can run, jump etc but tail still dead - might be getting it half lopped off later in the year. The fur of her rear end is only just grown back after 8 months!

Driving to work down the country lanes this morning from my village I was surprised to see a couple of old tyres on the verge. Then a couple more. And another. And some more in the field. Obviously some c*** had been chucking them out of a truck last night. The council guys were coming along picking them up as I got a bit further. It's exactly this sort of selfish behaviour that makes me want to go on a killing spree. That and people who drive up your backside thorugh 30 limits as if to push you out of the way but who you leave miles behind in derestricted zones. On the plus side I did see a barn owl when I was looking at the tyres so that was quite cool.

Is it in two years that they switch off all the fm radio stations?

Plan to, and AM as well, but then we'll see after May, but if Gordon Brown & Co get re-elected there'll be an scrappage scheme for radio's, although cant see a total closure at once since there's still millions of car radio's out there with FM, and even some new cars don't have DAB as standard.

Apparently any television can be fitted with a freeview box,

Think that's true - certainly there was a news article about this on TV last week and they had a pre war TV with the one show or something on it - I really enjoy the thought of that (not the one show) a 5000 year old TV on digital. Funnily, I have one of those 80s casio LCD 'pocket' TVs that runs on analogue - I wonder if I can get a set top box for that?

I managed to run a PSOne through my Casio LCD portable telly once. I sellotaped the RF output thing to the aerial and it sort of worked.Shite for playing V Rally on though.

My Rant for the day is missing pictures of all the shite spotted this afternoon.W123 Mercedes Benz in beige, Benz 4x4 thing that looks like a small Unimog( dunno the name, C-something?), a dark blue Rover P4, and a bronze DS all missed because my crappy cameraphone has stopped working.I have a DSLR on me 9/10 times but not today as I was across town on my bike and don't like carrying it so far.Groan - I need a good quality 'street camera'

Yeah, especially when my Blu Tack \ tape connection broke and I whipped myself in the face with the aerial, and dropped the telly.Still, it amused me on a rainy Saturday back in 1997. Caned like.

I'm told I can run a box through an old video, but that'll be yet another piece of electrical kit in the way if I do that.

Get down to your local cheesy electrical/hardware type shop, the kind of place where you go in and there's a load of cardboard starbursts advertising vacuum cleaner hoses and a load of weird electrical bits lined up in size order under a glass counter.Ask the bearded man behind the counter for an RGB Scart to RF converter (or "modulator" if it's somewhere a bit fancy). They're usually about the size of a cigarette box - you plug the Scart in, it outputs via a normal RF lead. Will set you back about a tenner. Then sit back and enjoy the latest series of Woof! or whatever they show nowadays.

Come the changeover I believe that HMG have to supply everyone with freeview boxes.

It would be utterly fantastic if they just supplied everyone with zoetropes instead. With a random selection of paper inserts, portraying martial arts moves or arcane sexual practises.

Heres a question, my TV used solely for gaming has a crappy aerial which doesnt give me any signal at the best of times, would a freeview box even work?My rant, is that as soon as SUMMMMERRRRRRRRRR starts I get a barrage of laughter at awful jokes and inane chatter about sex from the pub next door. Heres a tip guys, youre lives are awful and dont end up basically telling the whole street what you did. I really do not care.

We get DLA for my son and HMG charged us a flat fee of £40 to do whatever was necessary to get digital TV. We got a new aerial, a set top box and a booster all installed for that £40, which was nice. It would have been even nicer if it had worked but at least he gets a good picture on the channels he had before. I'm sure it'll work after the switchover.

Most new cars still don't have DAB radios unless you look at stufff costing more than £25k which seems strange considering the normal radios will be useless in a couple of years. Probably 'cos they know they can save money now whilst being able to milk a bit more out of people in two years time to upgrade.

Argos and Comet both do the (same) freeview box sans scart, and they both had them in stock when i checked a couple of weeks back. But I ended up not buying one and using iPlayer instead.

Comet did come through (see happy thread) although I do still have one set that is refusing to tune, it worked fine when I last used it (about two years ago).

Car alarms. Just what exactly is the point of fuggin' car alarms?!? Has one EVER prevented a car from being stolen? No, because everytime one goes off, everyone just wants the chuffing thing to STFU. If that means someone stealing it, then fine. Neighbours Beemer has been bleeping loudly all bleedin' afternoon. Gah!!They should be outlawed.

Twats who fuck up a perfectly good car by bodging the inner wheelarch with fibreglass and filler , just spent the whole day sorting out this bodge on my beemer , I dont give a shit what a car looks like as long as whats there is done properly and not glued together with underseal
