Star Trek/Wars, whatever it is.

Science fiction holds the same interest for me as F1, both are absolute bollocks.

You and me both, some people at work are raving about this and are taking 'Half Day' tomorrow to race and see it.

I'd rather work.

Realised today just how knackered idiot sister's eye may be. She had elective surgery that the interwebs said would be marvellous. Except it's gone wrong every way possible, and Monday it was discovered she's got a retinal tear, so emergency fixing surgery. Today I took Ma (also blind) to the eye hospital for routine stuff, and amongst all the other leaflets there's "understanding retinal detachment".

Leaflet says there's 75% chance of it being fixed on first attempt, and if it is fixed she may still be pretty knackered. I'd be shitting bricks if it was me. Idiot sister is just pissed it's stopping her going out on the piss for Christmas.

Nope. Not a penny! We don't charge for testing or shipping. It bites us in the arse quite often, but our main competitors are chancers that just claim to have repaired anything that comes through the door whether they have found anything wrong with it or not, and have no way to test anything other than just "looking for exploded things on the PCB" so to try and keep the reputation of the electronics repair business out of the gutter we are overly mega transparent, to try and keep people from tarring us with the same brush as the other place.

If we charged per hour for labour,  it would cost people twice as much to send us something that turned out to be fine than if it was faulty, so we don't otherwise it would scare people off.

One of our lorries is VOR'd at the moment miles away, seems it broke down and the makers area dealer came out and did something to the ECU that allowed it to run, however it broke down again on the way back and the main main dealer came out this time, it appears the first mech has reassembled/refitted the ECU inside out upside down or summat, and its literally cooked itself, no date in sight for a fix...good job its on full maintenance and repair contract.

edit, i'll piss myself if you've been working on this self same bolloxed bit of kit this week, that would be funny.

As for electronics, about which i know the square root of fuck all, i had two ECU failures on two W124 Mercs for different reasons, both times they were repaired by people you probably know of on the Isle of Wight, not cheap but then good work never is, but being as i thought i could get it done cheaper, i sent the second one to two different places, both of which were utterly fuckin useless and one tried to 'keep' the unit, no doubt for spares, finally got me head back on straight stopped being a twat and sent the bugger to the Isle of Wight (which is what i should have done anyway, pillock), returned repaired and a valuable lesson to me.

I'd be obliged to know of your outfit should something similar happen again to me or one of mine, and need the attentions of a man that can, would you mind letting us know (if everyone else doesn't already) where we might find your good work please.

I was driving out of a car park today and spotted this unusual scenario, this photo is from less than an hour ago.

Qc51yoL.jpg

15-plate Audi A7....

This would have been on the ground floor of a six-floor 1300 space car park at about 7pm. In the time it took me to phone it in five cars drove past so they must have done it bloody quick as you'd have to go right past it to leave...

Kin 'ell, just seen this.

It does seem a sad reflection on society these days that most people are just happy to ignore it and roll on because it "isn't their problem" or "they haven't got time" that said, their will often be at least one person who'll actually make an effort to call this kind of crime in to the Police.

Feckin bub......

Had my Escort van for years, never once have I damaged it, even improved it in some areas....

Today I somehow let a scrap Mondeo roll into it and bend one of the back doors round and damage rear quarter too 😠

Woken up by at least two sodding Owls screeching and hooting last night, fucking owls! Hopefully it's quite tonight

Also sad that the Nova for sale thread has been deleted. Thought it was quite funny :-)

Due to being very sad I still have my star wars toys, when not buying obsolete corgi and matchbox, I occasionally buy the figures missing from my collection.

Can I win any on eBay? - like fook I can, lots of middle aged speculators bidding me out of the market 'cos of the new film.

When the hype dies down, the prices will drop.

Every night I shut down my computer and it installs 200+ updates. The following morning it attempts to configure updates, sticks at 0% for 10mins before giving up and reverting back to it's pre-update state causing an infinate loop of failed update instalation.

Fucking thing...

The reason I have 200+ updates waiting is that I didn't have enough space on C: drive so it never downloaded them until I cleared 17GB worth of temp files earlier in the week...

Something soothing about listening to an owl at night.

These buggers were having an argument at about 0400 on who was the loudest. Not helped by me sleeping with the window open.

I was so tired I couldn't even shout at them to shut up!

Ive got the old door but no hinges on it? I swapped doors when the wind pulled it off the hinges. Hinges broken but door ok. Left hand side one.

These hyped up news stories for trivial events, as today is the last working Friday before Christmas and people might go out for a beer or attend a works party, it's been dubbed as....

"BOOZE BLACK FRIDAY!!!!!!!!!!"

OMG, won't somebody think of the children?!

Thanks but obviously it has the opposite one to that, this is just the way sods law works...

But... If there is no rot on it I'll buy it off you if you don't mind keeping it for a while til I'm in that area or if you are going to Cannock I could meet you there

Posted

You going Cannock on Saturday? If so I can take it. No rot or at least anything major. I replaced van one with a scrapyard one. All that's wrong is the hinges are broke due to no check strap fitted

"Matching numbers."

These matter when you are spending big money on something rare, not a £1500 capri laser.

Please stop using said terms.

Nine Miles to the gallon!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :(

What were you expecting? That's still cheaper than the bus here...

Posted

What were you expecting?

Supposed to do about 20! But I guess that is NOT doing 2 mile journeys twice a day both times from cold! On the same runs, the Honda does 45!

Also, clattered my bloody walking stick into the front bumper and marked it (sob!) when that useless fat bastard Chester pulled me 'cos he was desperate to get into 'Pets at Home' - things in there that require a good peeing on!

He also took advantage of me being stupid... while I was in the Co-op buying the necessities of life (fags and chocolate!)  he emptied the two bags of Christmas goodies I'd bought them and was sat on the back seat surrounded by bones, chews, various animal ears and other varied treats trying to madly neck them all before I got back and caught him!

He then had the audacity to growl at me when I told him to put the, back in the bag!

the jaguar can just about do 20mpg round town, and thats only a 4 litre.

i always thought that a rolls/bentley using the 6.75 litre v8 would manage 8-12mpg, so given that 9mpg round town sounds about right.

Posted

4 miles @ 9mpg - £2.50ish.

4 miles @ 45mpg - 50p ish.

Two quid for a ride in a Bentley?

Cheaper than getting fucking married in one, that's for sure!

Almera currently on a FTP, burst it's rad last night, feck knows how long SWMBO drove it with no coolant, and the Favorit is still pissing about with a misfire, but it looks like I may have found the cause at last, so will order some new plug leads from my local factors on Monday
