The grumpy thread

I was actually trying to remove one of those this morning and one of the captive nuts had broken free. You might find they break off quite easily with a chisel or punch.

Posted

I'm going to see if I can get at the remains of the bolts from underneath tomorrow, I thought I might be able to get them out with mole grips.

That's got to be worth a try, it's just one more bolt to release the shock and take it out of the way.

This pisses me off. "Car written off" when the crash happened this afternoon. I'd like to know which insurance company works that fast, or perhaps the lazy journalist is an insurance assessor too?

"Car damaged" is accurate. I really doubt they'll write off a Lamborghini for a bit of suspension damage and some carbon fibre.

Ordered some wheel bearings from some goons on Amazon so I could get the Visa through its test. Everything else was done it was just the bearings that I needed so I found some and was told they would arrive within 2-3 days. Its now over a week later and I get an email today saying:

Subject: Order information from Amazon seller PS Autoparts (Order: 205-4130105-5822710)

Order ID 205-4130105-5822710:
2 of First Line FBK108 Wheel Bearing Kit [ASIN: B00GSPEYEY]

------------- Begin message -------------

Hi

We have tried to obtain these items for you, but cannot, so the order has been cancelled.

WTF.

So I have sent this:

Well thanks for nothing. If you did not have the parts why did you advertise them? Not only is it an inconvenience to have had a massive delay to get the parts, it has meant that I have not been able to get the car back for its retest costing me £50 for another test.

If you were not advertising parts that you did not and could not get, I could have located these from another source but after paying you in good faith for parts that you were advertising as in stock and for a quick delivery, I am now out of pocket to the cost of another test.

I will be reporting this to Amazon as its really not on.

Not being off am I? What a shower of cunts.

On the same subject, does anyone know where I can get a couple of front Visa bearings?

That's absolutely appalling hillman. Surely there is something for you there for recompense.

My Princess is sat in the corner of the yard untouched and this is pissing me off again.  I'm being thwarted variously by a lack of space, time and funds, sometimes together, sometimes separately.  I'm used to being able to just crack on with jobs on my cars and still have time for work and fun when money is tight, or to be able to splash a bit of cash on them when time is tight but this just hasn't been possible for what feels like months now.

It seems every time I try and make any progress on the car something gets in the way.  The same has been happening with shows and meets, the frequency I've had to cancel attending has got to the point where I'm not even looking for what events are out there to attend now.

I'm feeling really trapped by it all, this is supposed to be a hobby I enjoy to wind down but all I feel like I do from waking up to going to bed is working with sporadic treks online for a post here and there on a forum to break the tedium.  I don't feel like I'm getting any productive down time at all.

As a result, I keep thinking I should just get rid of the Princess and the 6, not for money but just to take the frustration away.  Once they are sorted when am I going to have the time to actually enjoy them?  I wouldn't mind if this shortage of time was equating to an increase of funds so I could pay someone else to do the work on my cars but it isn't.

I suppose something will have to change, I just don't know what.  In my heart I don't want to part with the Princess.  I don't want to part with the Renault until I've driven it though I think I'd find it easier to part ways with it if one car did have to go.

Of course, this is all my own doing.  I should probably cut my losses while I'm where I'm at now, keep the Xantia as my only car and just concentrate on... well what?  Being bored by work I guess.  Bored and frustrated.

Spare Time                 +......+

All you need to do is equalise the horizontal lines and the result is happiness

I have this stress with projects all the time,I've got rid of one which helped a bit and moved two out of a friends field where I was stressing about storage,I'm less attached to them if I haven't drive them in ages too.

Its a dick move, but pretty common practice now. Everybody is just a middleman, nobody wants to hold stock so an awful lot of "sellers" are just organising your stuff to be sent to you from someone else. Obviously more people in the chain needing their cut drives prices up too.

I get grumpy when the bastard clocks go forward.

I've not seen a pair of dogs going at each other fighting for years. It must be at least 20 years!

Me too. And when they go back.

I dunno what it is...its my weekend off, I have no need to be up at a certain time but every year without fail on the day the clocks change I have a miserable nights sleep.

I think it was brought back for the "LOL DO YOU REMEMBER SHIT THINGS FROM THE RECENT PAST?" demographic.

"D'ye remember asbestos roofing? GARLIC BREAD!"

Catch phrase was OK 20 years ago (and with Roy Walker), but surely every catchphrase has been used by now?

Sat in Watford gap services. Eml came on in punto, gauge dropped to cold and coolant light came on. Fault code is p0115. Coolant temp circuit I think. I know the thermostat is fucked so hoping it's all down to same thing

Posted

If the sender/gauge isn't working, keep a close eye on the coolant level.

I'd also be tempted to leave the vents open to prove there is warm air coming through.

Girlfriend is searching for car insurance today, she got it down to something like £475 but forgot to mention it has an alarm, so she amended the quote and searched again......

Prices then went UP!! And the insurer offering £475 then refused to quote!

WTAF!?!

There's no rhyme or reason to the whole bloody insurance minefield.

Get her to pass an IAM driving course (unless she's a vocational HGV/PSV licence holder) then contact Cornmarket, formerly Adelaide, she'll never need another insurer if she runs normalish non shite or classic cars.

It works when I reset eml. Definitely still got warm air coming in. Not red hot as stat is kippered. No mayo, using no water or oiL either.
