The grumpy thread

After work today I fitted a pair of wheel cylinders to nextdoors car.Whilst fetching an axle stand I notice a leak from the Land Rover.A quick look and the rad's sprung a leak.No worries I've got a spare.I'll fit it when I've finished these brakes.

Got the spare radiator out and found the reason it was spare.Well I found out after removing the leaking rad.The locating studs and the whole lower strip of metal they attach to are missing. So I put some rubber blocks in the channel and tightened the top down.Doesn't seem to move about so , yay.

The bleed screw in both the radiator and thermostat housing are plastic.Everything came apart ok but, yeah, the highest point (thermostat housing) decided to rip the top off when there were atleast two threads showing.I carefully removed the one from the old radiator but most of the threads stayed where they were.Having to break the broken bleed screw to get it out meant there is now a quarter of it in the housing. The long 4mm steel bolts going through two aluminium housings feel like they will break if I try to undo them so for now the plastic is staying where it is.I can't bleed the system properly because of knackered plastic threads...Great.

Corsa seems to have a limp. One rear wheel tilted in at the top. No play in wheel and can't see anything wrong with rear axle so I'm kippered as to what is wrong with it

Posted

Have you checked the top of the suspension turret to be sure there's still metal there?

Posted

Found problem, rear axle has corroded. Removed wheel as it was doing my head in and found the axle has gone near spring mount. Grateful I didn't part chop in at cav craft now as if something had gone and someone got hurt I would be pretty upset.

That did make me smile but mine was more accurate! Wouldn't knowingly sell a dodgy motor especially to you folk and even if it was unknowing I would still felt guilty. Left with dilemma now of replacing axle or buying another cheap motor

Got a Xantia here. Good runner, nothing wrong with it at all, especially the suspension. Will make you a goddam sexual tyrannosaur.

Ain't Karma a bitch !

Spent most of yesterday changing the lower front wishbones on the Mrs' Disco3

All came apart fairly easily once the decision to use the 9" cutting disc on the rear seized bolts

Already driving soo much better, nice and solid feeling again, with no banging or vibrating under braking

Popped up to the local Morrys for tea and beer and passed a broke down Defender with horsebox on the A43

Still there on our return so pulled over to offer some help if needed

Poor driver had been sat for 4 HOURS whilst the RAC passed her case from 1 recovery company to another as they all refused to attend for 1 reason or another.

Turned out she told the RAC that the gearbox had gone, and being AWD needed skates under the wheels to get it moved

As she only lived 3 miles up the road and she had already got her horse and dog home safe,we offered to take the horsebox home for her to make things a bit easier

Left her to stay with her 90 as leaving something like that unattended would see it lifted by Someone soon enough

Got back to her just as a recovery truck turned up,only he didnt have any skates with him,and the nearest set were on their way with another truck from St Helens !!

So I offed to take a look underneath and see if we could get the 90 movable at all

Found the front prop U joint had failed at the transfer box end,and had been flailing around under the transmission tunnel leaving some impressve dents in the steelwork!

Not wanting to cause any more possible problems with the transfer box I unbolted the rear prop which meant the Defender could be winched onto the truck easy enough

So why the grump you ask ??

Driving the 4 miles home the Mrs says the brakes feel a bit funny..

Literally got to the gate at home and the dash goes apeshit with warning lights everywhere, and the pedal goes to the floor!!

A brake pipe has burst at the rear, where they pass over the rear diff.......Bastard

The Interent says dealer will charge £1k as its a body off job...................ffs

Had a chat with the local village garage owner this am and he's talking 350-400.....

So Ebay will be delivering a nice new pipe bender, flaring tool and copper pipe for around £60 all in

Fecking LandRovers !!!

i cannot believe that a back beam for one of these is expensive, and i'm betting that they are quite easy tio change.

like everything else though it is finding the time, especially if its your only means of transport.

been and put the rubbish out, and there is a snotty note on the inside of the recyling bin.

"this bin is for domestic recyling only and not for other waste and wont be emptied in the future" or words to that effect.

the reason for this is we got given a shit load of bits for an x300 xj6, and there was some plastic trunking that went into the bin, its plastic, so why send it to land fill.

but no, the bin men have had the time to look through the beer bottles and pizza boxes that where in the bin and see some not domestic type rubbish in the bin, and then put a shitty sticker up inside the wheely bin.

glad to see that my council tax is been well spent. wankers.

Ours do that too. The answer is to throw a layer of dog shit in the bin on top of everything else.

I smash up scrap dyson parts and put them in the recycling. I do bury it though and not had a shitty letter yet!

Posted

Minor bin-related gripe....I opened a new roll of black bin bags and the perforations are all messed up, rendering all the bags useless.

Ouch! That is bad karma!

It's a bad car ma.

C5 failed to start - in Aldi's car park a couple of miles away.  After I had bought a load of frozen stuff including ice cream :(

Rescued by daughter.  Car is still there and battery here on charge.  Going to attempt to start it at around midnight when the kids come back from a gig in Durham - assuming there is anything left of it as the rear doors couldn't be locked as all electrical functions shut down with the "Economy Mode" operating.  Boot was locked though, making it fun extracting the shopping and tools.

I'd like to train myself into being a "morning person"

Friday I got to work about 10,walked the dog,ate loads, talked loads and then at 4.30pm I felt like doing some work, didn't finish until 10:15 pm

What's that about?

Nothing scuppers your chances of a sale more than launching the price upwards like that, even if the later price is still 'reasonable' (whatever that means). If he's done that once, it means that when someone comes along who might be prepared to do a deal at £999, he'll start getting greedy again thinking he must have underpriced it and the price will go up to £1300 or something. The upshot will be that he still has the stuff sat in his garage 18 months down the line. 100% guarantee it.

In late January/ early February, I agreed a deal at £500 with a guy with a bit of an attitude who had a 325i advertised on gumtree at £700. Price agreed and collection arranged for that Friday afternoon. Passed all the info on to my transport guy who phones me on Friday morning to say he's nearby, but getting no response from seller. Finally boyo gets in touch to say that he's 200 miles away and as transport guy hadn't phoned to confirm (already arranged) details, he assumed I was another time waster and had gone away for the weekend. Cheers. Time of transport guy wasted.

Car readvertised at three that afternoon for £950. No offers or time wasters.

Still for sale today.

One of the things I hate the most is presumption. As Mondays mechanical type stuff on a Monday on my college course every week one old git turns up in his rover P5 and sticks it on the only four poster ramp. No matter what work others want to do or how much they don't want to out it on a shitty two post ramp he's there.

Why not just fucking ask the others just once. Last week the stupid tutor thought I shut put the Frontera on a two post, fuck that it's 3 tons, in the end we didn't work on it.....

eBay, make your website more useful and probably sell more stuff by not having every generic bit of shite that you could thow at a car come up because someone has listed it with every different vehicle model and manufacurer possible.

This, for example!

Off Side O/S OS Right CAT Catalyst Mercedes Benz C280 W202 2.8 Petrol 06/1997 - (Fits: UMM Alter)

am I likely to be fitting a Mercedes exhaust to an UMM? No, so why is it there?

And this!

Classic UMM Engine Timing Advance & Retard Dwell Inductive Strobe Light Tool (Fits: UMM Alter)

What use is that to me, or any other UMM owner.

And while I'm at it, do you or your sellers really think I am going to fit £2000 wheels to a shed on wheels? Seriously?

By filling your website with this shite, you actually make less money as no one can find the actual things that fit their car in amongst all this shite.

Stop it!

Posted

eBay is fucking dismal as a selling platform. A complete waste of time. I must remember the next time I'm near a scrap pile to fish out some of the detritus - people pay stupid money for complete dross.
