Who burns books?

Shame they were worth £550, which you will take out of the deposit as inventoried items... (Possibly)

Exactly this, take it out the feckers desposit, after all they have admitted it so they dont have a leg to stand on, shirley?

Dave is right though, apart from the people on here the rest of the great unwashed are general idiots that reside in places like ebay, gumtree and mumsnet.

That kind of thing boils my piss as well, what a pair of utter cunts.

Seems mental that rather than properly underhand or malicious, its not like theres owt misleading about it, are they just incredibly stupid or naive perhaps?

I would still chuck them out before they start cheerfully using the spare bedroom as a cowshed or aircraft maintenance facility however.

Potentially it is criminal damage - either intentional or reckless.

I actually managed to stand in a huge turd today.

Not once, but twice - it was caked all over my boots. To be fair, it added something to my height.

To top it all, I warned my mate to be careful - you've guessed it, he trampled it to death as well.

Pressure washers come in handy.

"oh, we couldnt find any firewood so we have been burning them."

was the reply, given without a hint of apology or realisation they had done wrong.

Tell her to return for some reason, go upstairs and put all of their clothes into binbags and remove them. When they question what she's doing, she can calmly reply "oh, I've run out of toilet paper" with a similar lack of apology or guilt.

Aye, just point out that 5 bookcases worth of books at RRP will be more than their damage deposit, so you're doing them a favour by only taking that.

Then sack them off. What next, "we were too hot in the summer so we dismantled the roof and sold it on eBay"

Much fail today.

Arrive home and the cat's shat on my blanket. I have no tea and my camera has decided to display "344jnhfd fer=e40re49=r0fe89rf- ef" instead of pictures. I think it's on the way out, frankly. D60s were not designed for 100,000 shutter operations.

Eurocarparts.

Ordered a set of HT leads from Dingbro last week which turned out to be incorrect for the 340. Popped into ECP to see if they could help.

"We can help!"

Phonecall this afternoon.

"Mr Campbell! Your parts are in!"

Off I trotted to my local ECP branch where they managed to surprise even me. They supplied the (correct) crank sensor. They supplied the (correct) 1.4 coil pack.

I'm still trying to work out how they managed to supply a set of HT leads for a 1.4 Renault engine where the king lead doesn't fit the coil pack they supplied for the same 1.4 Renault engine.

I even have a Bosch part number (Googled in front of them) which they couldn't cross reference because "our computer needs a ten digit part number and the thing you're showing me only has 6 digits."

Gave up, went home and shouted at the fridge as it makes more sense.

Re the book burners....

Seemingly its their first time living away from home for both of them and they are just completely, utterly na...nay...nayeeve? google suggest "naive" but that doesnt look right?, yeah...that. Anyway, she is giving them their notice and told them straight off that their deposit wont be returned.

Just ignorant, spoilt rich kids with no idea how the world works.

As my sister likes to say "people are stupid". It's a shame that the stupid people seem to get the positions of power as I've been witnessing with the Students' Union Executive at my uni. Last week they held an extravagant awards ceremony paid for with funds intended for the student body and hired some prat of a rapper called Chipmunk for a 10-minute performance that worked out at £200 a minute! After the criticism they received for that I would have expected them to tread very carefully but yesterday a photo booth with the SU logo on suddenly appeared in the foyer of our building and no one knew why. Turns out the Exec had made a unilateral decision to spend £6000 on something no one had asked for without consulting the student body and they hadn't even checked it would fit through the door of the building they intended to put it in!

Although it's a very multicultural place there is a definite undercurrent of racism from the African community, particularly the large number of Nigerians, towards other nationalities. The majority of recent union presidents including the current (outgoing) one responsible for this debacle have been black and there seems to be a cartel of Nigerians including a notorious ex-president who are determined to keep the presidency among themselves. This time however their candidate was disqualified for having unpaid fees and a white president was appointed unopposed so I can't help feeling bitterness about that is the root cause of this madness as they aim to screw things up for their successors. This is why I have always refused to get involved with the SU and it's a real shame as great things could be done by the right people with the right attitude but so many are just out to please themselves and shaft everyone else along the way.

I don't understand how they could burn five bookcases full of books. Culturally vapid philistines.

Even naivety has limits. If you can't find wood, would it not have been just as easy to go find/buy some rather than destroying other people's property? Keeping their deposit is letting them off lightly tbh.

Re the book burners, naive is probably mild compared to some of the terms I'd be prepared to use, perhaps you could consider getting them to throw their kindles up in the air and you shoot at them (the kindles, not the tenants, as tempting as the latter may seem) because you've "run out of clay pigeons". Stupid pricks.

My grump is I have to go back to work tomorrow after 5 consecutive days eating and drinking too much in and around Berlin, following a visit from an old schoolmate and then my brother. Good practice for Christmas I suppose. And the brake caliper overhaul kit I've ordered for my non computer literate colleagues BMW E46 is not the right one apparently, cue arseache of packing them up again, sending by recorded delivery/DHL, waiting for the vendor to agree that he'll refund me the money and then it starts again.

I have comments about this and how the same sort of attitude seems to be cocking a lot of things up. None of which I can put into words without it being a meaningless rant :-)

TERRORIST.

Mustard Mitt I often do that sort of speed because I read (on the internet) that the cameras are set to 110% plus 4mph. I've now been proven wrong without the tedium of paying a fine myself, cheers for that!

some tenants are a weird bunch they seem to think they are owed help from everyone,

mine have been in our house for 6 years now and don't think they have ever cut the grass or even washed the windows, we have had complaints from neighbours but I just leave them to it as the rent is always paid on time without a problem, I don't want to have a go at them as they may start burning the doors or something.

Yeah well my speedo over-reads by 8-10% according to the Satnav in my phone and i reckoned on 57-58 on the speedo when i was flashed so I thought it would be OK... sadly not, I certainly don't have the willpower to start arguing with them about it however.

Consensus is that if you are offered a re-education day instead of getting points, tell them to poke it and take the points. 3 points has pretty much zero effect on insurance and the training day is a wasted day when you could have been doing something productive like cleaning your belly button.

I've a feeling the training day now has the same effect on your insurance as the points anyway.

You don't have to declare the speed awareness course as it isn't a conviction. I did one, and TBH, it wasn't too bad.

As I have just confronted the SU at the establishment were I sit at a desk it has come to light that the funds for the SU come directly from the University taken from the fees paid by a student and though you may decide that you, as a free person, do not want to be a member of the SU ( Hay man like I don't want to be part of the Union) then you cannot be a student here. Unlike a normal Union all the members of the SU are forced to be members by the University which "pays" the fees. May be a reason why the SU takes the University side in any dispute.
