Ok speaking as a "Bloody Hippie" I dont actually conform to either of these "religions" Does global warming exist=yes, is it all our fault=no

for me it comes down to the simple fact that we have an effect of our climate, but the climate is always going to change as we are in an eliptical orbit around the sun, so we should save as much fossil fuels as we can and find alternatives, but we cant just stop using technology just because some idiot somewhere decides we should....then we really would have CHOAS and ARMAGEDDON....

why complain about a cars emmisions when we send huge boats to China to recycle our waste and bring it back....how much emmisions !!!!

the list of stupidity goes on and on if you think about it

Yup, whitevanman sums it up for me. It changes anyway, we've probably not helped the situation and being a 2CVer, I hate to see so much waste in the world. However, I do object to 'green' taxes which are just the government thinking they're being clever by paying for their wars with taxes that the public will blindly take because they think it's for the good of the world.

the BBc won't even have him through their doors to let him put his case. I can't think of any other scientific/political issue where debate is stifled in this way

Whereas David Attenborough is on every 5 minutes as his view on global warming is matched to the BBC agenda. Even that remake of Day of the Triffids had a global warming back story FFS.

Yep, taking those perfectly usable scrappage cars away from the UK when the new ones are only 15% more 'green'.Apparently, just 16 of those cargo ships pumps out more pollutant than all the cars in the world put together in a single year....no emissions regs on them at all.

Oh God, what have I started ?, I only wanted to have a Grump about some perfectly good food being Chucked for no good reason.

Indeed and I believe we'll be seeing a lot more ships coming to our shores over the next few years.Of course if we actually had a decent manafacturing base left here we wouldn't need to worry about ships but it seems to me we're fucked on that score. It's absolutely mind boggling it's cheaper to make stuff in the Far East then ship (and road transport) stuff to Britain than it is to make it here in the first place.

The global economy is a bloody odd set up though isn't it? I remember with consternation how we found some bacon in Denmark that came from Cornwall! Must admit, I generally do tend to buy British, not out of any sense of patriotism or loyalty (I didn't choose to be born here!) but because it just seems to make sense to buy stuff locally.

I'd love to be able to buy and shop locally. Go into the local butchers for some local bacon from a local pig, next to the bakers for some fresh baked bread and so on but it would take bloody ages. Supermarkets and goods flown in from all over the world have made us all a bit lazy I suppose. That said, I do try to buy British where I can, not always easy though.

Just seen the new WE BUY ANY CAR ad, complete with pictures of a Caterham and a Pug 205 gti. If you owned one of these cars, why on earth would you sell it to those idiots? And as for the fucking numbskull dancing and stupid song...... I would love to knock them out with a fifty cal......

I have to confess that after spending a few years delaing with farmers I've actually tried NOT to buy British farm food.I would normally try to buy British over anything else as I'm quite patriotic.

That was going through my mind as I typed it. So I added extra 'local's. :D

I do find it quite disconcerting that programs like League of Gentlemen and Little Britain, albeit exaggerated, are obviously based on some kind of reality.I.E. people like that actually exist, and that's worrying.

If you have any job dealing with the public you will meet a worrying number of them.Which brings me to my next rant. I am 'working' in Liverpool today. The next scally to ring me up and start the telephone conversation 'Alright lad' is going to get trouble.

I remember seeing a report on this very subject on tv not so long ago.The interviewer asked a guy from the shipping company for some sample costs. From memory:T shirt: 5 penceDVD player: £1Washing Machine: £5Basically they take the cost to run the ship and divide it by the number of things they can fit on it.Simples.

So they can make a washing machine for a fiver!! I did see a thing just before xmas and they were in the biggest xmas tree/decorations factory in China. They said a £25 quid xmas tree in B&Q would cost 20p to make!

There is a lot of money in shipping though, Every time a container comes of a vessel it's £80, then storage charges on top whilst it on the port.I guess that's where a lot of the prices start mounting up.

And the long long agent chain and their slice too.

That's the shipping cost, not the manufacturing cost.
Ah! Gotcha.. :)

Ah, for me the phrase of dread is..."What it is, right, is........ Yeah???"To which I so want to shout fuck off you filthy cnut. But invariably I just smile and nod .

In a similar vein, plebs/chavs/scallies calling me "bruv" or "bruvver" when I'm dealing with them."Mate" makes my arse twitch, but "BRUV"??!!Even my own brother doesn't call me that.....Having to maintain a level of civility and professionalism with this cockends is difficult enough without them starting with all that shit.

my next gripe is about the panic-mongering newsreaders and broadcasters that will be going on about the thaw-induced flooding we're getting in two weeks time! ;)I'm just getting in early before they think about it themselves!

Non payers boil my piss. Between Christmas and New Year, a friend from work told me of one of his Wife's friends who has a Freelander, seems to be losing coolant. OK, it's the headgasket says I, would you like me to take a look? "Yes please, I'm desperate to have it on the road, I need it for work" came the response. It's a 30 mile round trip, I had to load up tools and go strip it the other day, take the head for machining, and then go fit it with new gaskets/timing belt/head bolts/aux belts/plugs etc..... So I turned up yesterday morning at 9, as promised, reversed onto the drive, was met by may friend who had her car key, and got to work. We assumed she had been on nights, as the gate was left open, all the curtains were shut, and no sign of movement from the house. About 1ish, her grown up son told us she was at work...... Having come in from a night shift, she had then gone early hours to do the day shift, without telling us. So after we had finished, I asked my mate to find out what she was going to do about paying us. No problem says he, theres money in the safe at work, I was told I could go get that. (He sold a car and the payment was in our safe apparently) I went to work, no money in the safe. I rang him. He had rung the lady with the Freelander. She had no money in the bank to pay us. He had no money in our safe, as it had been put in the OTHER safe in our accounts dept.... SO I am skint. So, Freeloader owner, I hope the nice job we did on your car goes fucking bang in big style you thieving bitch. Failing that I might "induce" a different failure on the car. It cost me all of yesterday in the freezing weather and £15 of diesel aswell. BOLLOCKs!!!Thing is, I only want £100 for doing the fucking job in the first place. It's cheap and she can't raise it.

+1 about non-payersreally know how you feel.Nothin' as drastic as what you have done, but i completly took a BMX down to metal, primed it , did afew guide coates for high and low spots and so on and did a propper nice spray job on it.All in all cost me £50 in materials (Would of easily been the same with labour as i took my time and it looked spot on!)Anyway my supposed "mate" said he would bosh me £80 for doing it allWith that i was happy and made plans to use this money wiselyThe cnut gave me the money for materials and basically told me to feck off for the £30(I had to wait a good 5 months for this £50)Mates aye. :(
