@dean: To reiterate what everyone else has said, my thoughts are with you and your girlfriend.

@Peter: Stop being all clever with your new fangled machine, get an old fashioned manual model. It's the Autoshite way.

just found out my girlfriends brain tumour has returned. Had major surgery 7 years ago, and today it was confirmed its back. She'll have the op in about 2 weeks. if its successful, driving license suspended for 6 months, at least 4 months off work. Worried senseless it won't be a success, god i love her.

Everything will be OK Dean, just stay positive.

For the past week or so, all I can smell is cigarette smoke around me, if I stay in one place the smell appears, I don't know where the hell its come from, I don't smoke, never have done and nor do my family.

I could smell it for the first time from next door quite strongly on Monday, I don't know how its got into the house so it must have got onto the clothes and bedsheets.

I can also smell it at work and I know some of the people I work with do smoke

Looking like its going to be May 21st when she goes in, a bit longer than they originally said, but hopefully might get pulled forward. She's going to tell her children this weekend, don't envy her that job. I've got fingers and toes crossed for her, and thanks for all the good wishes, I'll pass them on.

Forgot to hand my overtime form in last month, so got paid fuck all. Now get to play the fun game of juggling which bills to pay and which can go to fuck. Managed to put £70 in the car, sure I'll regret that later this month. 5 week month too...

Tooth extraction is never a pleasant experience, especially when the teeth in question once belonged to a cambelt.

Took a car in part exchange last week and yesterday, before punting it on, I decided to take it for a drive.30 miles from home in the desolate wastes of the Norfolk fens as I readied to overtake an hgv the car lost power.I coasted up a slip-road and listened to the lack of compression. After phoning a couple of mates one turned up to tow me home three and a half hours later. That's three and a half hours with no radio and a cheap 'phone who's only app is the on/off button.

On the plus side the car owes me a lot less than scrap value.Even so....fucksticks...

There is a very old motorcycle holding dust off of the floor in one of the lock ups at work, it needs total restoration, which I'd be happy to have a go at, can I get a sensible or even an idea of a price for it? Can I fook! It has a transferable plate and apparently that means it's worth the earth...

...in it's present state it's bleddy not! Grr!

eBay have been pissing about 'improving' things again. Not content with a new look, retina burning display some stupid fucking little thing comes up now that says '13 people are viewing this item per hour' or something like that.

I couldn't give a flying one how many people have looked at an item was looking at so just piss off, eBay.

A friend of mine had loads of trouble with smoke smells from his neighbour. It was getting into his house through big holes in the brickwork between the houses!

Still got cigarette smoke coming in from the neighbours house. Lifted the floor boards by the chimney breast and there's a hole leading straight through the wall into there house. The wood you can see in the back of the hole are their floor joists. They have spot lights in there through lounge and the smoke draws up and through into my house.

Theres a load more improvements by eBay on the way for later in the year. Whilst its probably good news for us as a business, it does mean I have a fuck ton of work needs doing before autumn as every listing we have (1300+) needs manually amending one way or another.

Deep joy.

Been suffering with depression for a while and lately it has really affected my work standard. Got called in for a review where my boss listed a load of stuff I had cocked up (some fair, some not) and basically downgraded me. Basically means I get a performance plan of achievements over the next three months which if I fail to meet, I am out.

Traditionally the standards are so extreme they can't be met, it's a way to get you out whilst getting you to work your arse off and they don't have to pay out any notice.

Knowing what she is like if I tell her about my condition, she will think I am using it as an excuse and it won't do me any favours. I work at a big bank in London and whilst HR always talk about how they are there to support the staff, we know that's bull. So what do you reckon? Fess up about the black dog or try and push through?

I spoke to a counsellor today and did the Goldberg depression test. Anything over 54 is severe depression and needs immediate help - I scored 60.

Can't help but feel I am fucked.......

Do you have a company doctor or medical department, Parky? I'd be making my way there ASAP and tell them about your illness. Not a nice way to look at it, but if they do try and force you out you'd have good grounds to cite discrimination, plus you'd also find out how good (or not) their policy is on these matters.

You never know, your boss may actually be cool with you and understand your situation, though I'd suggest seeing your own doctor for 'confirmation' or as said your work's quack.

More importantly don't beat yourself up about your illness mate, it CAN be overcome and it's surprisingly common too. Hopefully you'll start recovering soon.

Cheers Cav. 1 in 5 of us will potentially be hit with depression at some point. Sadly my grandfather and father both suffered so its hereditary on my side. I was first diagnosed in 2011 so quacks diagnosis is all legit if they want any proof.

I will tell work. If I don't get support then I know what they are planning and I have to ask if I actually want to work for them anyway.

Posted

Check their own 'rule' book policy on it first too. That way they can't feed you horseshit about it and I would imagine they will shit themselves if they start becoming wankerish about it and you pull the discrimination card out.

Thursday 25th. What a load of auld shit.

Start the day having survived the OMG CONSULTATION process at work. Finish it completely drained because of another reason I can't go into, and narrowly escaping a tug from an unmarked GMP 3 series on the Princess Parkway by the attenuated penis hairs. The red light went on and he shot off before we got to the hard shoulder, probably on another shout.

My tip for the weekend? be careful on the section of the Prinny Parkway just before the M56, even if the blert in the car in front of you has hit the motorway in lane 3 doing 35. It's teeming with unmarked motorway cars, probably because of the 10k that's on this Sunday.

I am going to keep a close eye on the Volvo for the next few days in case dibble fancy another look. I may discuss stuffing it down the unit actually, unless that's definitely the end of the matter.

£10 says I get pulled tomorrow in it.

You are NOT fucked!!!

Unfortunately, the way things are at the mo, most big employers ( mine included) set you targets that cannot be met just so they can fuck you over.

You have a recognised medical condition, you need it confirmed and you need to take the evidence back and shove it up her fanny.

They cannot sack you or "manage you out" of your job, they have a duty of care to their employees.

Think smart fella, you actually have the upper hand, not them.

Best of luck to you.

Thanks Freebird, you are quite right. Trouble with the old black dog is it affects rational thought sometimes. Just got back from The quack, tablet dose doubled and therapy referral sorted. Might be a long rod but worthwhile if I can get myself back to myself again

Wish you well with that Parky, I know how that feels having been in a similar position, unfortunately in my case I didn't know what to do or who to talk to and rather than attack it head on I voluntarily walked the plank as I just didn't know what to do, which no doubt is one of every HR bible dream results.

Try and get help with your depression and if you can find help if you need it deal with the HR situation. Speaking from my own personal experience I know I gave up my own fight and that made things harder for me, in all sorts of ways personally and professionally.

I really wish you all the best man, with a personal investment in a positive outcome for you. If you feel strong enough to fight on you really should, keep your eyes and ears open with these HR folk as the majority are villans and try to reach out to someone who has knowledge on your own personal situation, company or even union help.

Keep strong man.

I ordered some stuff from Woolies, online, Wednesday evening. I paid more for "express delivery" and, at this moment in time, im still fucking waiting.

Bear in mind that, according to the tracking facillity, it was despatched this morning at 6.27am from Norwich ( 40 miles away ) it would seem that Ive paid for the tortoise to deliver rather than the fucking hare.

Yeah, yeah, I know the delivery will be part of a mahoosive multi drop load Mr UPS driver has to deliver today but Norfolk is hardly the size of Texas and his round will be patch working rather than county working, right?

I wouldnt mind but Ive paid less and had stuff delivered the next day by Parcelforce.

Thats a day wasted then.

Fucking computers. My super reliable Dell laptop decided to expire today. Quite happy one moment and then power off and instant death.

Connect power lead to mains = light on on power pack. Connect power pack to computer and light on pack goes out and laptop stays silent.

Took it to local computer place and their laptop expert is on holiday for another ten days yet.

Fucksticks.

Similar courier related pisssedoffness, I ordered some panels for my T25 from Anal Schofields the other day, told them to deliver them to my work address since like most people, I am at work during working hours. Obv they ignored this and sent them to my home address off my debit card, and obviously I wasn't in.

You can rearrange delivery to another address online with UPS, so I arranged for them to be redelivered to work, and obviously they just ignored that and tried to deliver them to my house again.

The customer collection depot thing is in the middle of sheffield city center so I'd rather toss myself off with a handful of die grinder shavings than drive other there for the sake of £30 worth of panels, but I could have done with them for the weekend really.

Sounds more like a dodgy charger than anything, stick a multimeter up the end of it, it should usually read 19v ish.

^This is likely. Dell chargers are notoriously shit. I just replaced mine with a generic one, lasted longer than the original.

I'm thinking I should stick to walking, I'm clearly carrying a curse where wheeled contraptions are concerned this year.

Kia C'eed: after 3 weeks stuck at the accident repair centre with the dented wheelarch already mended, the insurance company finally decided not to repair the very noisy wheel bearing on that wheel which only happened after the bump, declaring it a manufacturing fault instead. Why couldn't you tell me that 3 weeks ago?? Book car into dealer for the following week to have bearing replaced under warranty.

Kia C'eed again: Goes in to dealer 10 miles away for new wheel bearing. Transpires that the dealer cocked up the booking by putting it in under the wrong week, claim they're too busy now today to fit it in and don't have a loan car I can take. I consider allowing myself to get angry with them, manage to remain calm but express annoyance, I do get it booked in, miraculous loan car found in under 10 seconds. Dealer spends the day 'inspecting' it and declares that (shock horror) it needs a new wheel bearing which has only now been ordered and will take a further week to arrive. How soon can I bring their courtesy car back sir? Must be tonight or at the very latest tomorrow at 8:00AM. Made to feel like I was inconveniencing them for taking their car.

Kia C'eed again: Goes in to have bearing done, no courtesy car available so through luck and good timing, manage to work around that. Pick car up the following day, hasn't even been washed (something they're supposed to do). At least it's fixed. They say all 4 tyres are 'misshapen' and it needs a 4 wheel alignment at a partner dealer for £100 (it's only done 9,000 miles). I couldn't think of anything nice to say so said nothing and walked out. Got it checked at my trustworthy local garage, there's nothing wrong. Everything in tolerance, tyres show a tiny bit of unevenness, nothing more. This is good at least.

Motorbike: fully functional but totally unuseable due to moron who repaired it on a CAT B and sold it last year. Currently awaiting a donor frame or replacement.

Mountain bike: after 9 years of minimal maintenance, coming home from work, the chain snaps going up a steep hill, narrowly avoiding a painful encounter with the cross bar. Chain bodged back together with damaged links removed after a long walk home but is clearly now well beyond saving, same goes for cassette hub. Now looking for half-decent sub-£100 hybrid, this bike needs a well-earnt retirement.

If nothing else, I must have a karma rule which says I can only have one fully functional mode of transport at any one time

Posted

Not wishing to quite look the ambulance chaser as normal, but when you say 'hybrid' did you really mean 'retro mountain bike? If so pm me!

Posted

 You have PM.

Can't believe anyone read that drivel, I don't have much to complain about really. it's nice to vent though!

That's pretty much what I thought it was and hence why I dashed out and wasted some money on buying a new one that does exactly the same as the original.
