Ian, are you SURE there is no mileage limit with Peter James?

When I have set up my policies, it has said limited mileage of 3,000 or unlimited. When comparing I found that they both cost the same so decided to go for the unlimited........

And I can edit FYI. I use Chrome.

Oddly I cant see many pictures on here at work using Internet Explorer. All I see is a "." instead.

Broadband is being a PITA again - I think it's the line that's the problem now though, as the phone crackles like buggery, even when I've got the router unplugged and just the corded phone plugged directly into the test socket. Sometimes it'll manage to stay connected for several hours; others it'll connect for 30 seconds then lose its ADSL sync and spend ten minutes trying to get it back. It's odd as the Talktalk engineer ran tests on the line when he came and said it was all good. Anyway I've now got a BT engineer booked for Thursday so will have to see.

When I signed up the Princess for a classic policy I was asked "Are you a member of any clubs or online forums?" to which I obviously answered in the affirmative. I think they ask so that they know you have the dedication to your cherished vehicle and the ability to obtain parts, though it was a fat lot of good in my instance since they wouldn't pay out for the spares vehicle that would have put mine right a lot quicker so they can fall in an oubliette for all I care.

Are you viewing the forum on phones?

Some phones have problems with forums, particularly the edit and quote functions.

Insurance, and broadband, and those are just for starters. :(

Insurance: for the 406, has cost me double what I paid for the car, when it's a cheap and nasty old scrapper (yeah I know, a plush and powerful cheap and nasty etc...). Also, Footman James have been nagging me for a UK registration number for each of the cars I brought in from Cyprus. I can't supply any such, as the Granada is still away pending parts for MoT, after which it can be registered; and the Metro will be going in the moment that comes back because it needs a load of work too. But oh no, "we can only insure them for three months without a UK reg..." Fucknuggets. So once they have been tested, I'll have to arrange new insurance. I sincerely wish I'd never set eyes on either of those bloody cars. (But the Peugeot, against all odds, is actually rather nice.)

Broadband: it's Tesco, say no more. I have regretted that choice from almost the moment I made it. Weeks ago I emailed them and ordered them to come and collect their hardware and never talk to me again. Obviously they haven't. I've squandered every spare moment I've had for the last two days trying to restore my dropped connection. Today I gave in and made what turned out to be a 57 minute phone call to their so-called Customer Service department. I was held for 14 minutes before a human answered at all. And why had my connection dropped? Because my fucking modem was too close to the fridge!

It's been a particular issue as I've been trying to file my tax return online, which you're supposed to do before January 31st. During the registration process for that I've had to go so far online, then wait... and wait... and wait... for them to send me information I need by snail mail.

And then there's Paypal! That's a whole other world of pain! I can't just change my address from Cyprus to UK, I have to close my account (and lose any stored information in it) and open a new one. Now there's some kind of discrepancy with my credit card, so I'm in limbo with them. And their Customer Service dept is in Dublin.

Is it actually possible, in 21st century Britain, for any fucking thing to work as it was meant to?

Tesco Broadband ARE full of shit, Eddie. I know, I've been with them for years and their service ranges from brilliant to utter dog shit. They just buy it off whoever gives them the best deal at the time (an internet speed test will tell you who the actual provider is) and then mostly deny this when you ring them. It used to be everytime they switched providers the service went tits up for a while. I only stick with them because I once made the mistake of going with Tiscali who are actually THE worst 'service provider' in the world. Most because they provided absolutely NO internet connection service to me ever. After the shit this caused I'm very reluctant to sign up for any other 12/24 month deal to be honest.

Freecycle, is it too much to actually turn up for something you are getting for free within less than a week... I can see why people put "Collect tomorrow or it will be taken to the tip".

Get a 3 dongle for a tenner (or use your mobile for tethering if you have data allowance and a phone capable of doing it), and then let the bastards at Tesco or whoever to take all the time in the world to get things sorted.

GRUMP: Domestic Management has bent the C3, being unable to avoid T-boning a spinning Coarser on the ungritted sheet ice which passed for roads round here earlier this morning. Still, this is what we have insurance for, is it not?

GRIN: It's only metal/plastic, she's fine (just a bit shook up), and the body shop has already collected it, leaving a wonderfully nouveau merde 107 in its place...

Broadband fixed ... This shouldn't really be a grump, but the fix was to reset the card in the exchange. The engineer did this remotely and came round to test it after doing it. He was here for 10 mins testing the line.

This is a remote fix, so why was it not done remotely a week ago? For businesses they reset cards remotely all the time without sending engineers to site, so why not for home users? I think it must be because BT can charge plusnet (part of BT) for this whereas with business broadband this sort of thing isn't chargeable ....

Anyway, I've had a grump at Plusnet about this.

edit: Glad the missus is ok chaseracer, like you said the cars only plastic/metal.

Easy to say, but as you alluded to nobody being hurt is the main priority.

Our grump today?

Staying up late last night pissing about with Sky on the net and 'phone, unplugging things etc only to find loads of other peoples telly had gone off locally too so it wasn't our box after all. Huge surprise* when Sky kept trying to 'give' us a free HD box which, oddly enough, meant paying the bastards even more each month on top of the £75 we throw at them anyway. £75 for a fucking box full of shit, it's only for my missus wanting multi-room, live pause and recordable telly. I don't begrudge her this one bit though as due to her working pattern etc she does get her moneys worth.

On top of that the boiler threw it's hand in last night and the council CBA coming to fix it. No hot water and no heating are NOT a priority apparently: they can do a 12 hour shift at a chemical plant or a 13 hour shift at a hospital then, see if they'd think it was not a priority then, useless bastards :roll:

Glad the Boss is ok chaseracer. No matter how attached we get to them, cars are relatively easy to replace. As you say, it's only metal, and this is where you see how good your insurance is. Good luck!

I'm sure you'll already be aware of it all, but remember to steer clear from credit hire and other forms of slimy 'claims management' stuff.

With respect, thats not neccessarily accurate.

Its all about Plusnet, fook all to do with BT. All communication providers will do everything in their power to do absolutely nothing whatsoever If you report a broadband ( non telephony) issue UNLESS the line tests a fault condition.

Cards are not really "reset" anymore as such. Your line may have had a "lift and shift" of Broadband mapping or it could have had a profile rebuild, Licc change etc, etc.

Openreach will be paid by your provider to visit on a "boost" job if no faults are detected and you kick up enough fuss about your problems. Thats why your provider, in conjunction with all of the others, give their customers a load of shit when they report Broadband problems.

That engineer you had round probably spent time on the phone to the CP ( Plusnet) trying to get them to resolve the issue he found.

An engineer can spend a fucking age on the phone with CPs, most of the people they speak to a cretinous twat fucks who go through all the motions without dealing directly with the problem that will have been found.

Software issues can be worked on remotely but even businesses have the same issues. Most big businesses run off of ISDNs, ISND30s anyway which are a different kettle of fish.

Plusnets one of the better providers. Id like to tell you, IMHO, who are the utter wankshafts of Communication providers but it wouldnt be good to talk about them.....

freebird -

I spoke with the BT Openreach engineer, who said he did a remote reset on the card in the exchange. I asked about lift and shift, and he said no, he just reset the card; which was something that could have been done remotely a week ago.

With regards to plusnet, this is the second fault I've had in 3yrs (both this month) and they've had a BT engineer booked pretty quickly with virtually no hassle. It probably helps that I'm IT literate and they speak English as a first language.

I did consider changing BB suppliers recently and decided to stick with plusnet as the others sound worse .... and I was offered a 50% discount when I asked for my MAC code ;)

Fair enough fella, we dont do many card resets anymore, cant remember when i last did one....

My gripe? Im massively fucked off.

I think life has much more appeal as a single person.

The DVLA are the biggest bunch of cunts about, I've been trying to declare the Alto as SORN online for a month now but the system wouldn't let me so today I go to the post office, they said they don't keep the form and I'm to print it of or phone the DVLA, I get home and ring them only for the automated service to say I can't do it on the phone.

So i drive back to the post office with the filled in form only to be told this time that they don't do SORN anymore and that I need to post the form,:evil: I get home and my wife rings the DVLA to ask what's she's meant to do as the cars in her name, they say post the form in but we will have to pay a small fine for not SORNing it....:evil:

I was planning on taxing it on the 1st too.

Cheers, Luxo :)

Everything's being dealt with by my trusted local broker, with whom I am on first-name terms.

I thought i could just it sorn there and then it to cover myself, I didn't understand these new laws regarding sorn, to be honest it's proving to be a big nightmare, I don't want to tax the car until I've stripped the head off to see if there's any serious damage to be head, I can't tax it until I insurance anyway which again is a bit pointless if the cars not going on the road yet.

I might as well just send the sorn off and wait until the 1st March before insuring and taxing it now, this all seems needlessly complicated, I was hoping to get over my old mans today to strip it down but he's moaning about to being to cold to work outside and that he'll help next weekend instead.

Posted

Done it all wrong, mate. Should have asked for help here, first.

One month out -you're unlikely to get a fine..

Posted

I did ask on here but only one person replied, everyone else was too busy bitching about Rovers.

The lady said we should get small fine (guessing £15-20) but my wife will ring Monday and play the innocent card and see what happens.

it s not a fine, its a penalty payment

Can't you go to the post office and tax it and say you want to tax it from 1st feb?

Posted

I didn't think you could do that as there wouldn't be anything to stop you from using the car before the 1st if you've already got the tax disc?.

Not to worry, I'll post the sorn off and will get it road legal for the 1st March, It will take a few weeks to fix anyway.

Posted

Yep, you can only get a disc to start on the 1st of the next month if the car is taxed already, unless its after 3.30pm on the 31st of the proceeding month and the lady in the Post office is 'well up for it'

(May or may not be the outpourings of a troubled mind but she can only say no)

Posted

Trying to buy a tax disc online, and because I just renewed the policy yesterday the stupid DVLA computer can't verify my insurance.

Looks like a trip to the Post Office next week...
