thats a fair point, tho I cant say I have ever seen hot chocolate bloom like this before?

this looked suspiciously fluffy if that makes sense? and also critically for me, it did not smell like it should, it smelled more like rosin core soldering flux then it did chocolate powder if that makes sense!

The bad smell does suggest mould, bloom in this instance would just be freakishly formed sugar crystals. Weird.

I've had mixed spare experiences.

I needed it once on my Puma, and was glad it was there. That was a full sized one. Needed to use my zx's one too, which was the 1994 original 😬 wasn't a fun drive home...

When I threw some money at the Xsara I got it's 2002 spare changed with a new one and 4 years later have never used it. I do currently have a screw sitting happily in a rear tyre though so it's day might come soon (been 4 months so far though 🤷

When we had the Zafira the ex cracked an alloy. Turned out to be a fake alloy but cracked none the less. Zero spare on a Zafira b, and the tyre goop had long gone by our ownership 😂  We drove it the 7 miles home by stopping frequently to pump it up, although Amy then drove over a pothole that must have sealed it up as we did 5 miles in one go to home in the end (I was behind ready to stick the hazards on and keeping an eye on the wheel (which I moved to the back at the side of the road).

All solved thanks to a set of vectra c alloys and good tyres from our local asm but I did look into fitting a spare, but needed to buy all cage and mounting hardware. We never did 😂

I'll take a full sized decent spare any day, even if not used. I also use the cars jack at least once to check it (an old neighbor told me to do that back when I had my first car. "check it now whilst your mot relying on it 👌) and keep my breaker bar with the 17mm socket fitted in the boot at all times! Never needed to use it yet but if I do the odds of it being on the m40 between junctions 4 and 6 are very high

Just been for a new tyre on my spare wheel.  I have never used it but then only had this car ten months, but it was a slick, no trace of tread on it.  Part worn Michelin for £45, will likely never be used but MOT on Monday would have condemned it anyway.  Peace of mind to have a decent spare if it is ever needed.

Yet another job that I have been putting off for months.

The spare tyre isn't tested on MOT

I thought that they still did check it.  Oh well!

Would be just my luck to get pulled if I ever need it.

I used a spare this week.

Then saw on Facebook that someone was asking about a spare for a Zoë to be told they don't need one because "I've been driving 30 years and never had a puncture".

Reckon I've had 6 in 15 years.

I’ve had about 6 in 45 years including one scrapped on a car only 6 weeks old. However , two of those have been in the last 7 months, both scrap. I didn’t really care too much when it was 145x 12 @ £35 each but 225/55x17 @ £150 is really annoying. Glad I didn’t get a Bini with 19in wheels.

a complaint has been sent to Morrisons

Send it to Cadbury too. I know Morrisons is the retailer, but I've found you get more freebies response from the manufacturer, in the past.

Several years ago, a friend's dad bought an Audi quattro, UR, new (said it was a while ago)

He discovered it came with a 'space saver'

Told them not if he was buying it, for x thousand, it came with a proper alloy and tyre.

Oh no sir, won't fit in the wheel well.

He said he didn't care, he'd survive without boot space, but wasn't putting that power through a stupid wheel in the event.

So they tried one, and it dropped straight in!

We did do a few calculations for fun, which I can't remember, but was quite a saving, and a free set of wheels for every fifth quattro.

Money grabbing gits, bugger all to do with space

Posted

He made an arse of himself to get an Ur that performed worse than all the others and used more fuel because it lugged all that extra weight that was likely never used.

My record is on my sister's old Pug 107 - took it to have new tyres fitted while she was at work, and one of them punctured within two miles.

I managed about 50 yards on my mountain bike once immediately after repairing a puncture.

Not a not on news from the British press about the terrible floods in France. Not much in the Spanish news either. Why is that?

Because no one really cares other than the French affected.

UK news is generally UK centric for obvious reasons.

Same here, no mention of it in Norwegian media either. Don't know why.

Because they always say “an area the size of Wales “ has been affected when reporting floods from USA or Oz.
Doesn’t really work for France.

Which bastard at VAG thought putting all this shit in top of the battery was a good idea?

A 5 min job to change the slowly dying battery becomes 30 thanks to hidden bastard plastic clips.

Except if something is happening in the US, in which case we have to hear about it in microscopic detail

I once had a puncture on my ZT-T. I got the space saver out and it wouldn't fit because being a 190 they had fitted bigger front brakes. As we were only two miles from home I put the flat back on and drove very carefully home.

When I looked in the handbook if you have a front puncture you are expected to put the space saver on the rear then put the rear on the front. Typical half arsed job from Rover.

I said that the other day - if ever there's a hurricane anywhere else in the world, even the Caribbean islands, it barely gets a mention here, yet the second it makes landfall in the US....

Oddly enough I frequently find that the Swedish news sites (Dagens Nyheter principally) often report UK news ahead of UK sites.  And are way ahead globally.

The last time I was properly sick (last year's Cricket Christmas dinner) was down to er downing tequila).

What's pissed me off this morning is flood water driving dramatics.

There is absolutely no need to carefully pick your way up the exact centre of the road (blocking it off for oncoming traffic) unless the road has a very pronounced camber. Especially if you've just seen a 308 drive through unscathed and you're driving a Landcruiser.

Dutch news sites are the same.

I had that issue on a 1.6 mk2 cavalier with 14 inch SRi Alloys and mk3 cavalier Gsi front brakes. Only issue was that one of the alloys was from an mk2 astra GTe  and the casting was thicker so it wouldn't fit on the front. So I'd have to remember to swap the alloy off the other one on the back, for the 13 inch spare.  Not good when your tyres are one direction of rotation only.  But hey. If it gets you home.  But I'm not a major player in the automotive world, just an idiot that wanted better brakes on my car.

^ I'm in good company then.  Mine are usually worse after I clean them.  I should stop bothering.
