When was the last time you saw any gloves or paper towels at morrisons catcliffe?!

Saturday! In fact, I used two sets because I also did the tyre pressures!

Bah! If you'd only used one there might have been a pair* left for me!

*in fact I only ever use one as I don't use both hands to man-handle the thingy into the thingy. Using an actual pair seems a bit wasteful

They've always got some inside, if you can be bothered to go in and ask.

Christ, that'd impress the 8 cars waiting for me to get on and get out of their way! I only ever go in the kiosk nowadays to collect my £5 voucher. Pay at pump is absolutely for winnarz.

Because their time is more important than your eyesight?

Seems a lot of fannying about when people are waiting* tbh, and there's not much stopping me washing my hands in between filling up and rubbing my eyes like a wakeful baby. If I was sat behind someone doing the same in the dregs of my lunch hour I'd literally bite the steering wheel off and I reckon I'm quite patient. In fact there were two old birds about to actually fist fight on the forecourt today, but I refused to look round and just stood grinding my teeth and trying not to listen. "Tell your wife to apologise" "she didn't say anything" "she did, I can fucking lip read you old cunt" etc etc. Would have been quite amusing to watch I imagine if I hadn't been in a rush.

*it must be the busiest petrol station in the world. It's never less than 3 cars deep at each pump during the day.

Diesel's fucking horrible. Filled up on my lunch and now have some in my eye and everything I touch smells or tastes of it. Urgh.

Please tell me this is because you were standing on the hose and looked down the nozzle to see why none was coming out.

Posted

I would never ever do that unless I'd at least had the foresight to get someone to video-record me doing it!

There's definitely CCTV down at Catcliffe.

Personally, I never take any H&S risks. If they don't like waiting, they can fuck right off.

'Please stop'. Well said that man, the political debate's as well worn as the Astra/Focus one and incredibly boring.

+ 1 on that. I couldn't give a toss about how the bloody septics do things.

Yes, I agree, let's not get too carried away with the totally irrelevant US politics.

Anyway, have I mentioned my modern awesome-barge's semi-auto gearbox? You have to be doing 66 to get into 6th gear. 52 to get into 5th. Gr9 for bumming along the 50mph roadwork zones in 4th.

Eh  That dont sound good. Is that how its supposed to be ? Does it have one of those sports mode, normal driving mode buttons on it maybe ?

Posted

It's supposed to be like that. In fairness 49 in 5th would be about 1200 rpm. It has normal non-flappy paddle drive mode too. I'd kinda like the "manual" mode to actually let me do what I want but it just lets you choose your gear in some tightly defined bands. I guess it's probably better that that me completely ruining the car/box by dicking about and choosing my own gears. It WILL let you pull away in 3rd, mind. :?

Ahh got it. With those sort of ratios it's better fuel economy at high speed. Probably built for the German market.

Aye. For all it's numb modernness it's forking brilliant at trundling up and down the m1/a1, which is what I spend most of my time doing.

Also, stop the bloody public sector muppets complaining about everything. Awww, they're losing 15% of their pensions, tough shit, try working in the private sector instead of skinning the public for all you can get.

Ooh, a race to the bottom, what a fine idea. "You got organised and have a better deal than me, so you should lose that 'cos it's not fair ..." You think private sector pensions won't be next?

I'm in the LGPS. It's in profit, I contribute nearly 7% of my salary, and the liabilities are funded for the next 20 years. The current proposals are a tax on public service workers because precisely NONE of the extra contributions the chinless fucking wonder at No11 wants to chisel out of me will go into my pension; the money will go to the banks via the Treasury to pay (again) for their fuckup a few years back. So yes, it's my future and I will fight for it, despite the lies in the meeja.

Seriously Pete, get your head out of the Daily Mail - or your arse, whichever.

They were fucked by that one eyed Scottish idiot in the late 1990s.

Most lower paid private sector workers have no pensions at all. You should realise how lucky you are in this day and age, we're not living in 1953 anymore.

I said I wouldn't get back into the politics discussion, but, since you KNOW that

The current 1950's-60's-70's era public worker benies are not sustainable in any Western country

would you be able to point us in the direction of any scientifically robust study proving the above for the cases of Norway or Denmark?

Ta very muchly. 8)

No, they were fucked by the swivel-eyed grocer's daughter from Grantham a decade or so earlier.

How will destroying the retirement savings of yet another group of workers help? It'll just mean more people being forced to claim benefits in the future merely to survive. Mad idea...

Rong, it happened prior to his term in the chancellor's seat: he just chose not to reverse it (like a lot of stuff that should have been sorted by that government).

Do you think that if a private individual paid 7% of their salary into a pension from the man from the Pru he'd get the same level of return that LGPS will pay you? :?

to be fair, this isn't really a car thread!

FFS, non-car thread in car forum fails for car-related reasons.

Posted

I go to work to advise on pensions and did not come home to read a load of peoples opinions about them on a car forum.....

Might go onto Aries Pensions and ask them about Talbots.

^^They aren't countries, they are suburbs. Norway isn't even 5 million people. Denmark isn't even 6 million. The southside of greater Los Angeles has more people than either country!

Get real.

wonder how many crack and cheese addicts there are in norway and denmark compared to LA
